I think someone asked about that fairly recently and Chris shut that idea down pretty quickly.Β

Oh man, that's sucks.Β

I don't hate X&Y but I was curious to see how their version would be like.Β

Now that it’s been over a month since release, where do you all have the album ranked on your lists?

Β

Everyday Life

Viva a Vida or Death and All of His Friends

A Rush of Blood to the Head

Parachutes

Mylo Xyloto

Moon Music

X&Y

Ghost Stories

A Head Full of Dreams

Music of the SpheresΒ

Β

I think it’ll stay in the 5-7 range going forward.Β

Viva la VidaΒ

Ghost Stories

Moon Music

AROBTTH

Everyday Life

Parachutes

X&Y

Mylo Xyloto

A Head Full of Dreams

MOTS

Β

MM still has that new album smell so maybe it’ll leave the top 3 in a few months. But it has been the soundtrack to the biggest moment of my life so perhaps it’ll stay.Β

I think Ghost Stories has a really good vibe that they've never had before or after. I can say the same with Mylo Xyloto too, and old Coldplay up to and including Parachutes.

Moon Music really hasn't broke my rankings in any meaningful way. It's a good album, but I feel after repeated listens that it still suffers from a lack of cohesion and has too many idea jam-packed into it. Clearly there was so much material and you can tell the band had a tough time consolidating it to under 45 minutes. And I do think the singles were really weak. We Pray didn't hold up very well for me and FLIFL is still a pretty big bore. The b-sides help improve the overall era though. Relative scores below, really could be a tossup for me on any given day.Β

1. Viva - 10/10

2. AROBTTH - 9.5/10

3. Parachutes - 9/10

4. Everyday Life - 8.5/10

5. X&Y - 8.5/10

6. Mylo Xyloto - 8/10

7. AHFOD - 7.5/10

8. Moon Music -7.5/10

9. Ghost Stories - 7.5/10

10. MOTS - 6.5/10

I recently got myself an iPod (obviously) and I own Moon Music on iTunes but the album isn't complete. Because I own the Feels Like I'm Falling in Love single iTunes refused to download the album version. If anyone has the iTunes album version downloaded in high quality, I'd appreciate it if you could send it to me privately. IΒ tried contacting Apple support about the issue but they refused to help.

Lucky you! I was told they weren't selling them when I went to the merch tent on the first night 😞

Which tent did you go to? I went to the one that opened at 12pm onwards and they didn't have the CD or the poster.Β

I went to a different one after the show and they had both. Was so worried the CD will be sold out but they had heaps left. I wondered if anyone new about the CD (or the difference). πŸ˜„Β

I went to the one inside the stadium, in the general admission area.

I only found out they were supposed to be selling the CDs by a notice on the stage screens, not long before Coldplay came on. By then I already had my standing spot I didn't want to lose.

That's how I found out too but I went to all 3 shows so managed to get the CD on the second night.Β

It's just a joke about the current pattern of every second album being well received

MX/AHFOD/MOTS - controversial/divisive albums
Viva/GS/EL/MM - mainly loved by the fanbaseΒ

I'll expand that a little further. The controversial/divisive albums in hindsight are mostly vanilla, with some exceptions within MX and of course, Coloratura. It may not be the intent, but they "feel" built for "Chris and his backing band" playing in front of 50k stadiums. Nothing wrong with that, and those albums and subsequent tours have made the band millions of dollars but it's limited, musically

The other set have a level of technicality and musical craft that simply make them more interesting during multiple relistens. I still love listening to Genesis and 40 years later still enjoy those moments where I catch rhythm changes, drum beat or piano chords that I missed before. Viva and Prospekts, EL, and MM reward you for those repeated listens. 45 days after MM was released I caught some section of iAAM that I missed before and now that may have jumped in the song rankings.Β

The Karate Kid is the b-side of the All My Love 7", so mayyyybe AML is still technically the final Coldplay single?Β

Β

No it's not Chris is a liarΒ

Never thought of TKK as being a b-side. πŸ˜„Β

Β

Chris lies all the time. We should have known this by now.

The 7" single looks really nice. I'm thinking about getting it, but the endless problems with the Coldplay store last time aren't filling me with confidence.

The physical order stuff has been working great with me. I think they struggle more with digital orders. I would get it if I were you. Honestly I am low-key excited for the music video so I can finally truly understand what the song is about (I have heard like 5 different interpretations and none have vibed with me, feel free to tell me some if you have your own theories)

I pre-ordered the single since I like both songs so much. Hopefully I have more luck this time with the correct order being sent. I expect it to be better now with the big album release behind us. Β

I haven't had much luck with either to be honest. Both Music of The Spheres and Moon Music were delivered late (particularly the latter), and I had to have a month-long battle with their support to get the files that I'd paid for. I still don't have them, but I do have my money back.

That "Shine On" sign clearly seen in the Karate Kid video is clearly not a coincidence. There they are wanting to send a message. Or play with the fans.

I hope they release it in December but... with what format? In theory Coldplay was not going to release any more singles. An EP perhaps?
