The title 'Every Teardrop is a Waterfall' is cheesy. That was 13 years ago. What are we doing in 2024 pretending that it isn't a fundamental part of Coldplay's DNA?

Isn't vagueness to lyrics a good thing? It invokes different discussions and listeners to interpret the song however they want. That's what good music should do.

I agree that most of the lyrics to the NewPlay songs aren't quite what you class poetry but if it invokes a discussion from fans, I think it's a win.

I would like the goal to be a mix, a little vague is fine but having a minimum quality, word-using and effort. I´m not expecting Shakespeare, but not Bad Bunny neither.

Exactly. Chris himself admits that he’s not the best lyricist. iAAM has cheesy lyrics like any Coldplay classic like Yellow or ASFOS. If you’re still here then to me you must like the cheesiness.
 

Another thing to note is at this point of their career they have no need for introspection, no real angst or struggle to grapple with, just love for everything and everyone. As generic as that may sound, it is deeply important to them and so it will come through in the songs they make.  AROBTTH - X&Y’s lyrics felt like Chris was facing a world of problems, but now in songs like iAAM any problem seems so insignificant because he knows how to deal with them now. He is a mountain. That’s inspiring.

I think that is either naive or a too hardcore fan position. Again, you don´t need to be Bob Dylan, you don´t need to write poetry, and in my opinion the effort you put on your art (and for me, lyrics are a very important part of the art a musician creates) should be bigger regardless of the easy life you can get when you´re a millionaire. Of course your lyrics are not gonna be tortured or complaining about how hard life is (or maybe they should, because they´re the lucky ones), but the way you express whatever you want to express, it matters.

But I´m enjoining a lot the debate, thanks!

The fact people always say Chris didn't put any effort is a reflection of that. He can always push himself even harder of course, but if there was no work behind it, we wouldn't get the huge collection of drafts that is the Notebook edition.

I'm just months away from getting my English/Portuguese degree in college and let me tell you that considering song lyrics poetry is actually a very heated debate in our circles (I'm in favour of it).

I don’t post here much well more like never 😅 but I think iAAM is perfectly representative of Coldplay. Those lyrics to me have such a beautiful and powerful tone. I don’t feed into the oh it’s cheesy. Well i guess I like cheese. It’s so authentic to how Chris writes. It’s about perseverance, not giving up, something happening to you in that first verse that allowed you to get through everything thrown at you. I see great elements of spiritual renewal ( god/ love comes into your life and suddenly you have strength to get by or just anything really that allows you to start to believe in yourself ) How he talks about turning into something new to me is very apparent, then upon going into the chorus it’s like he’s going to test this new found strength.  Also the “my love will remain” is a clear example of the point of moon music which is to go at circumstances with love for ppl even if it’s hard or it hurts. Life is painful but now you’re a firm grounded mountain. You’re going to hurt but you also have the ability to stand strong.

Looks like the song MOON MUSiC has Jon Hopkins on it.  Guessing that means it's going to be largely an instrumental type track, like Life In Technicolour, etc?

Well the Neon Forest intro (which is confirmed to be a part of 🌈 now) fades out at the start of FLIFIL, could be the same synth track reused

Chris puts everything into music like I think obsessively and I think it’s what naturally comes out I also think some ppl don’t understand or see/ value  the true underlying beauty of what he’s saying a lot of the time. 
 

I don’t need mysterious poetic writing ( don’t get me wrong that’s fun too ) alI I need is to know what’s being written is so genuine and there is NOTHING disingenuous about how Chris writes at all. When he writes about love he writes about it in its purest form. I think he thinks on a different tangent. It’s not just a random person saying love everyone. I feel his lyrics have such double meaning. Like this has been a theme since he was a young man. I dunno it’s my main reason for loving Coldplay are the lyrics the simplest to the most complex. 

Fancy words and structure are nothing without heart for me.

I love this! It's so true. There is a certain genre of music that I work in and it kills me how light and fluffy the lyrics and. They never scratch the surface of deeper emotion. When Chris wirtes a song like this, it feels so genuine. Not like he's trying to have a hit or make a "feel good song". 

Now don't get me wrong, I prefer the lyrics of songs like Cemeteries, Violet Hill, Viva La Vida..... But to me Chris gets a free pass on "cheesy" lyrics like this because he sells them so well. 

Also I feel like they will seem better in the context of the album. I wonder if there will be some tension to resolve from Alien Hits/Alien Radio (i hope so). The beginning of iAAM sounds a little tense. I didn't like Arabesque until I heard it in context of EL. (shame on me, now it's my top 3 on EL)

They made We Pray a single because of all the wars going on now i guess, so they hope it becomes a big anthem for peace.

Still curious what more the album brings.

I'm feeling really pleased that a lot of the album is still a total mystery and that the wait is practically over, so I'm not really feeling impatient. 

FLIFIL was an okay first single that I expect to enjoy more on the album. We Pray is really solid but I've already played it out. iAAM as an unofficial early single was really great too, probably my favorite. I know we've basically already heard All My Love, Aeterna, Good Feelings and One World, but I'm still anxious to hear how they're produced in the final cut. And ultimately having Jupiter, Moon Music and 🌈 as tracks we haven't heard at all leaves room for suprises to round out hopefully a really solid album.

Good Feelings doesn't sound like the Coldplay I loved in the Viva and Mylo eras whilst iAAM is 

I wouldn't be surprised if Good Feelings was Guy's idea considering he loves funk.

Based on everything we got, Moon Music might be their best pop album for me. Even if one is pessimistic about it, I don't see how this can turn out worse than MOTS (which I don't think is horrible per se, but it's their weakest album nevertheless).

Mistery? We´ve heard five of the songs (Feels like, Good Feelings, We Pray, All my love, IAAM), and we´ve heard also Aeterna and One world, although not in the final studio version. Only Moon Music, Jupiter and Alien hits/Alien radio are unknown (and Moon Music could be the track leaked by the name of Neon Forest, so...)

Moon Music is confirmed not to be Neon Forest btw
