But if you turn them down what's the point of having vocals?

Vocals turned down to an acceptable level of course. VLV (the record) it's a perfect example. All the elements shine.

Having said that iAAM it's the best out of the three MM songs, which I'm also appreciating.

Did a quick mix of iAAM, with Chris and the piano from the acoustic version and G+J+W from the album mix. It feels more Viva-ish to me this way.  Coldplay - I am a Mountain (classicplay mix).

Yes but Eno also produced the very safe latter U2 stuff

Well, if you´re talking about All that you can´t leave behind, it´s maybe safe, but it´s also a classic kind of songs that U2 had never gotten into. And if you´re talking about 2009´s No line on the horizon, the stuff they did with Eno and Lanois was absolutely experimental and adventurous, but later some of it was reworked to finally finish a safer album.

I really like iAAM. It grows on me every time I listen to it. Sort of reminds me of a hybrid of Death And All His Friends, Something Just Like This and Fix You.

I read an article fairly recently that said that Coldplay are no longer a rock band but a pop band. I think if you take them like that, it makes their new stuff more enjoyable as I'm no longer thing things like iAAM doesn't sound like stuff from their second album, etc.

They are the rock band but they just make different direction sounds

MOTS, for all its faults (and my lord there were faults) was at least adventurous. Everything we've heard from MM so far has played it very safe, perhaps a little too safe. We're getting some pretty bland middle-ground sounding stuff, which has me worried. I wonder if it's a production/mixing thing. A song like iAAM really should be leaping from the speakers and raising hairs, but it's sonically the same kind of meh that FLIFIL is. Both songs (and We Pray) just lack a punch, for lack of a better term.

You're 100%  on to something I agree with which could lead fans to be torn about Moon Music.

Despite being universally considered their worst album, MOTS was adventurous in what they band aimed to do -- space pop combined with nostalgiac 80's & 70's sounds, all produced with a futuristic Max Martin deep synthesizer sheen. But in execution, pacing and production it often felt awkward and overdone. It did away with Jonny almost entirely and took away the organic feel that makes the band resonate, but successfully did include some good features and eyebrow raising moments (think My Universe outro). I think the band so often wants to have it both ways: we want the catchy pop song but also the alternative feeling song. Having Human Heart and LSG back to back is a great example of this feeling so awkward and misplaced.

With Moon Music, so far it's a lot less experimental and less punchy. It feels like the band is purposefully appealing to oldplayers by saying "it's the new Viva!" and "Eno is back" and not doing any Max Martin or big feature mentions in the marketing. But the risk of this gets to something the band itself has said. They've already done Parachutes, they've already done X&Y, they don't want to repeat themselves. With FLFIF and iAAM espescially, they are kind of repeating themselves in my opinion, but if the songs are good, I'm not sure if that's going to bother me.

Grow up

I'm not sure who needs to grow up you're the one who can't take a joke

I think the issue is they want to have it both ways; be the band that does experimental alternative stuff whilst also having huge mainstream hits. On MOTS they had these ideas sequenced next to eachother and it was a clusterfuck, as you said. On MM they're aiming for the middle ground between the two, and the middle ground just isn't that interesting. So now the mainstream charts are ignoring them, whilst Oldplayers think the new material is lazy.

If they committed to one side and stuck with it, they would be more successful. If they fully committed to the pop things like they did with My Universe, they would get some big chart hits. If they fully committed to making Viva style stuff with Brian Eno, the fans would love it. Instead they're trying to have it both ways and aren't getting a lot of traction from either side.

On one hand they're promoting the album by calling it the closest album to VLV, and hyping up Brian Eno's contributions, and hoping nobody notices the Max Martin producers credit. Meanwhile they're pushing We Pray as a single. It sends a really mixed message.

Definitely disappointed by the mixing of IAAM. Have to agree about the vocals being too loud and the guitar in the verses isn’t what I’d like it to be. Still a little difficult to hear even though I know it’s there. I just keep telling myself we have Viva and Everyday Life and that’s more than can be said for most bands. Curious to see how One World comes out 🙂 The closers are usually something special and it’s Mr. Eno, to boot.

Based on everything I heard from the album (including the leaked demos), Moon Music feels like a career review for me. I don't know for you guys but I think album number 10 is the perfect time for them to look back into their own artistry. This isn't to say there wasn't space for new stuff though, We Pray is alternative hip hop, they never done that before.

Brian Eno was not mentioned in any of their press releases for Moon Music, let's not make things up.

yeah, i'm pretty sure they said in maybe ONE interview that eno was slightly involved with one world, his main contribution being the fans singing the "ah" part

I think we as fans see things differently and that's alright by me: I love We Pray and to be honest, found myself humming All My Love, so I think IaaM will be a grower for me for sure (current sonic quality doesn't help really).

Regarding the entire album, cannot wait for the release to get the general flow and how well it works.
Myself personally, I became a fan just before Viva era so of course that era will always be very special to me, same somehow goes for Everyday Life which I think is underrated a lot...

When it comes to pop albums, only time will tell where Moon Music will be positioned among all CP albums - we'll see.

Yeah I hear that and also agree it could be a career-spanning album for #10. There is still a lot of the album's run time left to unpack though, and I'm so interested in how longtime fans feel on Oct. 11th after having the chance to listen to the whole thing through a bunch.

To offer the flip side to the idea the album feels too safe or too mid, I do think there's something to be said about an album that flows well, is really pretty and offers a chill cohesive vibe in this day and age. This remains to be seen given the very different sounds of say We Pray and Good Feelings, but I'm wondering if Moon Music is going to feel like a spiritual sequal to Ghost Stories. When that album first dropped, I was a little disappointed in the production style and felt it was just a bit dull and slow. But overtime I think it became more of a cult classic amongst fans for just having a really strong emotional appeal to it. It may not blow our socks off, but it really adds a specific sort of feeling to the Coldplay catalogue that feels singular and important -- an album that's all about loving yourself and being really good at processing negative emotions into something positive.

It might be a ridiculous comparison to make, but the new Nick Cave album is about this and is really profound and powerful in my opinion. Maybe Moon Music is the pop version of that hahaha

I LOVED iAAM! Best Moon Music song I have heard thus far!! 10/10

Sorry for double-post but I wanted to comment on the fighting in this community. I sympathize both sides as I have problems with some parts of the band's current direction & I believe people have the full right to state their opinion without getting bashed for it, but I am also sick of negativity whenever a new song/leak/snippet comes out and I do sometimes wish people would stop being so critical of the band and their music. My recommendation to the people who are critical is to make the criticism more constructive and to pay attention to your tone as you all have many good points but the tone in your writing comes off as very aggressive and spreads negativity and anger. Also, try to make your criticisms less repetitive as some people get sick of hearing the same "its pop now so it is bad" sentiment and instead point to the specific problems on a song-by-song or an album-by-album basis. My recommendation to the people who are sick of the negativity and shut down other's opinions is to also try to be constructive in your criticisms towards their arguments even if you believe their argument is stupid. Throwing insults at each other gets us nowhere so we should refrain from them whether it be to someone on this forum, off this forum, or in the band. To both sides, if there is nothing constructive or kind to say, do not say it at all.

I’m starting to think that the Only One will be part of Moon Music opening song…

The only reason that we didn’t hear anything from it is because it’s demo leaked like Jupiter and Good Feelings….

Maybe that’s why we didn’t have an Overtura II

I highly doubt it

After 10 to 15 listenings of iAAM, I still like it a lot, but I still prefer We Pray (in all its versions).

in the notebook video, chris opens the page with The Only One lyrics and says at the moment, the book is full of stuff that Will didn't consider good enough. Not a coincidence ?

Also, more than one song are called "a moon song", maybe it's just a way to say that bunch of songs were considered for MOTS vol. II (vs planet songs for MOTS vol. I ? )

only 2 weeks left to know more ...

Iaam great song. Great album this one, i just have a feel it is all about sequencing, with this long instrumental songs...  One world outro is Davide Rosi, remember the shot with baby being born, so it will have epic quality.

This will be such a great album, cheer up guys

Despite my criticisms I still think iAAM is a fantastic song. I keep listening to it over and over and it really grows on you. It will probably be a highlight of MM when all is said and done. But I really think fans hyped it up way too much on the basis of a soundcheck and some biased reviews, and it was never going to be the Colora2ra people wanted.

My hype for MM right now really hinges on 🌈. That'll be the difference between a mid album and a late career comeback for me.

I didn't listen to iAAM but i knew that people would be disappointed when they listen to the actual song because of the amount of the hype that people made around this song without even listening to it. No song can live up to this hype.

Can't really be lazy if all these songs were written during the MOTS sessions it's why MOTS is 3 volumes because that's how many songs they wrote. They spent a bit longer on MM because they weren't completely happy with MOTS Vol 1 and plus the lawsuit pushed it back too

It literally is just the soundcheck but with vocals and production lol

The funniest part is that iAAM isn't even their mainstream pop sound it's their Pop Rock sound from the Mylo era lol
