Big news!!! Chris performed at a Global Citizen event in Paris yesterday, and according to a Reddit user told the audience that LP11 is currently being recorded. That could mean we get a late 2026 / e

what would this mean?

It's 100% gotta be either the name of LP11 or a song... you heard it here first

(If I'm wrong then damn)

The problem with Coldplay from MX onwards isn't that they just stopped being great. If that were the case I wouldn't be wasting my time here. The problem is they stopped being consistently great. Every era with the possible exception of AHFOD has produced some of their best work ever. Moon Music on the whole might be on the more mediocre side of things, but Rainbow is easily in my top 10 favourite Coldplay songs ever. The leaks prove they still had it in them to create Oldplay level masterpieces - the talent and creativity is still very much there. They just choose to release more divisive material instead.

Of course you´re right about this, although I think we "should" stop pointing at Rainbow as a great song because it isn´t a song but a mix of ten of them. If we mix The Scientist, Clocks, Coloratura and Everyday Life the result would be amazing, but that would not be a song netiher😂

And I don't blame them for that approach, honestly. As disappointing as it is for a fan, it makes perfect sense career wise. When they made Viva la Vida, Chris openly said it was their attempt to become to biggest AND best band in the world. Biggest? Certainly worked, the title track was an enormous hit and it was one of the best selling albums of the year. Best? Sadly not. In spite of Brian Eno working some goddamn miracles with them, critics were (unfairly imo) as divided as ever. I think the penny dropped in that moment, Coldplay were never going to win over the critics no matter what they did. What they COULD do is win over mainstream radio listeners, so the focus switched to that.

Here is where I disagree, I mean... High five to the idea of "accept you are never gonna be liked by everybody, so just do whatever you fucking want, change into whatever you want to be at anytime".

But if that means abandoning riffs, embracing simple pop, and writing the laziest lyrics Martin has ever written, then we´re talking about something else.

You could argue it worked. Right now Coldplay are playing the biggest rock band tour of all time. Would they have gotten on those stages without songs like Paradise, A Sky Full of Stars, Something Just Like This or even My Universe? Probably not. And honestly we should be thrilled they're still dropping songs like Rainbow, Coloratura and Arabesque in spite of it not being commercially advantageous to do so.

Of course it worked! But my goal as a fan and listener is not to be the fan of the biggest selling band of the world. Even when I defend that artists must do whatever they want and not guide themselves by currents or commercial tricks, I also can have an opinion about what they choose to publish.

I don´t think we disagree too much, actually.

Hey, I can't say I'm the biggest fan of their approach either. I'm just saying I get why they do it. It's certainly not how I wanted their career to go, 2008 me would be devastated to hear how things panned out. But it is what it is, and you make the most of it.

We agree then. It´s funny, I don´t remember back in 2008 feeling that sense of criticism towards VLV, almost the opposite (in general, you´ll never be liked by everyone).

Seems like we're all on the same page after all. It has been said before, but I also think that we'll have to make the best of what we get from the band now. I agree with the fact that there's a recurring situation of making odd decisions with their music (read: mixing/instrumentation, not musical style).

As a true fan, I dislike many of the choices they make nowadays, such as leaving Jonny's guitar out in the mix (if there's any). Or mixing it in that softly that it's barely audible. Which for me is a no-go. I never accepted it and never will. Of course Max Martin who works hard but I doubt the collaboration with the band.

I realized quite a long time ago that Coldplay's music simply isn't Coldplay without Jonny. Jonny's guitar is essentially what makes it sound like Coldplay and if that falls apart, or I should say, disappears, then it sounds more like Chris Martin singing a song with a bunch of musicians, to me. Also, I agree that the lyrics aren't often great, but cheesy.

Anyway Coldplay will forever be my favourite band, no matter what. They've already shown to the world what they can and how unique they really are. Listen to the VIVA album! Each album's great though. What a band.

Hello everyone!

Any idea what the special studio experience was about recently when Coldplay invited a few of their top listeners in Spotify to come to the studio on the 14th of March? Read a post on reddit that a few new songs were played:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Coldplay/comments/1ru2jya/what_was_that_for/

The fans who attended this experience won't be able to say anything about the new music they heard because they're all under an NDA

We'll only hear this new music if the band ever decide to release it themselves

Hopefully The Race was included in their recent performance at the studio 🤡

I guess they´re thinking about an autumn release? Maybe an E.P. to give company to the 2027 tour announcement?

Im almost 100% sure that the last gig was a marketing movement by coldplay to see how much hype is out there for the lp11

like if they did a focus group somehow... I wonder how it went because they are so silent.
They need to bomb-release a double album + EP + voice memos/demos special edition, this year, before GTA 6 or ppl will lose interest.

Maybe and just maybe gta 6 would get delayed until 2027 and the album release would be in gta 6 or with gta 6

They entered their classic 3 year cycle thing. LP11 will be in 2027 imo

I’m just susprised we’ve heard absolutely nothing about it. I know they all probably signed NDAs but surely someone would spill the beans lol

What´s the matter with GTA 6 and what does it have to do with Coldplay?🫤

Valentine's Week I bet

At the very least, release something before the tour continues, that would be great thanks.
