yeah, i guess we all know those certain situations. we're currently in love with a certain band or song or album and we want to share that joy with a sibling or friend of ours. we burn them a cd and give it to them to listen to and after a few days we ask them how they liked it, but they'd only say something like, "ah, it was too noisy, not my favourite genre, and all in all i basically didn't listen to it because i gave up after 2 minutes." argh.

So, anybody else love the new NIN? I've had it on repeat all day, and I think it's fantastic. Trent is on a roll; first Year Zero, then Ghosts, then The Slip, all in less than 3 years. :shocked2: Favorite songs from the new album: Letting You, Discipline, Echoplex, 1,000,000, Lights In The Sky, and Demon Seed.

Hey, I'm new to the boards but I wanted to tell you guys about a UK band that I think could be the next awesome band to come to the U.S. They are called Headway and they're from Nottingham....Dave the singer's voice is SO GOOD! On their Myspace page it says that they have a song on tomorrow night's episode of The Hills, I think the song is going to be "The Start." Seriously, please check out the music on their Myspace page! http://www.myspace.com/headway If you live in the UK, they are currently supporting Matchbox 20 on tour so GO GO GO !! I wish I lived there so I could go. Can't wait to see them in the states. Are there any other fans on here??

I just wondered what everyone thinks of downloading songs from the internet instead of actually buying the CDs... Now we all do it (well most  ) and the big companies keep saying they're going to "clamp down" and stop people downloading music... Does anyone think this will happen or is it just a scare tactic... For me downloading is cheaper than spending ridiculous amounts of money on CDs :o .....And it's a good way to get unreleased Coldplay material :D

So we've all heard about MTVs Making the Band 3- and the girls making the band and stuff.. In Puff's latest venture of making a band.. he's found 5 girls from distinctive backgrounds and formed the group Danity Kane... their self titled debut album was released today.. and the first peek I have had of it was on MTVs Leak at http://www.mtv.com --worth a listen to. I'm impressed.. the nicest song on the album has to be Stay With Me.. as soft heart felt ballad sung primarily by Dawn.. her voice seems the most genuine of the quintent... and Aundrea has the most steadiness in performance.. she delivers it every time... check them out on MTV.com!! :nice: …

Just got back from a free Superchunk/Arcade Fire Obama Rally. Right before Superchunk went on, Win Butler was just standing off to the side talking to fans. Nobody noticed him, really. I walked over there and talked to him, asked him who one of his most influential artists is ("Bob Dylan" was his answer), asked him where he stood on marijuana legalization (he's all for it, by the way), among other things. He also signed my cigarette pack and told me I should stop smoking. Their setlist was as follows: Keep the Car Running (Antichrist Television Blues) Heroes (David Bowie Cover) No Cars Go Haiti Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) Rebellion (Li…

Review: THE SLIP, "EISENHOWER" 4 1/2 Stars The best rock album of the year. "A real band at last." - The Guardian, (UK) "The Slip have come up with something few others in the mainstream dare these days." - Village Voice, NYC Music criticism is something of a thankless job, because there is always someone who thinks they know more about what you're writing about than you - which is usually true - and then there are the people who don't, but think they do. What's more, music criticism is sometimes the bastion of people who can't play music, but wish they could, and so to compensate for the fact that they can't, the take on an air of intellectual superiori…

  11. Didn't see a thread about bands that nobody knows about, either because they're new or not mainstream. So I'm gonna start by plugging Flobots. They're an indie rap group with an interesting hard rock sound to their music. It's not as heavy as something like Slipknot or Korn, nor as crappy. They talk about politics and other hard-hitting issues. They remind me of Rage Against the Machine, but without the stupid. Here's one of their songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waRtcBy_GMI

Sorry if this isn't a WoM topic, but it seems to go here. Just let me know if you move it,lol. I just rediscovered WFNX, Boston's Alternative station. I used to listen to it when I visited friends or went to shows there, including the first time I saw Coldplay. That and CFNY in Toronto are 2 amazing stations for new Alternative music. So share your favorites...web, mainstream, satelite, whatever.

  15. I have come to the realization that the majority of the albums I own are closer to depressing or neutral on the mood spectrum in terms of music, or at least what they evoke in me. I think Coldplay ranges from neutral, depressing, for the most part, with some positive mixed in there. Mind you, I have moderate problems with anxiety, so perhaps I'm just a bit more sensitive to certain material in music. Could anyone recommend any genres, bands, albums, or even songs (that aren't quite as well known perhaps) or if you use Pandora (http://www.pandora.com) anything I should try plugging in or stations I should check out? It seems like a lot of music I hear that is positiv…

  20. Damon Albarn has revealed that he plans to release a new album in July. The star explained that the new album will feature over 100 musicians, including a Chinese choir and an orchestra. However, he would not be drawn on the name of the project or whether it ties into any of his previous work. Albarn told BBC 6Music: "This one's [the new album] got about 80, 90 musicians on it – something in that region. It's got a 100-piece Chinese choir on one of the tunes. That plus the orchestra probably goes to about 120, 130 people." Albarn hinted that the project may have something to do with his recent opera, 'Monkey: Journey To The West' by saying that the title of the p…

Normally, I am not a big fan of imported music, but, about a week ago, a friend of mine invited me to a private release party. The album was called Delta and the artists was a very popular Australian singer, song-writer called Delta Goodrem. I actually got to meet her and I think her personality is as cool as her music. UMGD is releasing her album in late July. http://www.myspace.com/deltagoodrem Joy,
