I said I liked her and this group, in the 'Supporting Coldplay' thread.... I got her album yesterday. I thought there was just a load of hype surrounding Santogold, but it's actually reaaally good! :) Great for dancing I imagine! I think I like it because it's so varied and it combines the kinds of things I like... Bloc Party-esque guitar bits, great sections of singing, electronic sounds, ragga.... etc It's just really surprised me.....so many different sounds on one album...but I like it a lot. Favourite tracks right now..... Creator (I heard it on a hair advert last week LOL), I'm a Lady (great track), L.E.S Artistes, Starstuck (really sexy song), Say Aha (ma…

British comedian Russell Brand is to host this year's MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) in Los Angeles. The 33-year-old is still relatively unknown in the US, where the ceremony will be held on 7 September. Brand recently co-starred in the comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall and is currently filming the Adam Sandler comedy Bedtime Stories. Previous VMA hosts include actor Jack Black, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Chris Rock, Jimmy Fallon and Jamie Foxx. Teenage pop trio The Jonas Brothers will play at the event, while other performers and presenters will be announced at a later date. 'Televised insanity' Brand said it would be "good to preside over what is sure to b…

Things just keep looking down since thepost-Coldplay release layoffs for the label..... http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/26/arts/music/26stones.html?ref=arts "The Rolling Stones are leaving EMI, the record label that has released their music since the early 1990’s, and have signed a long-term recording deal with the Universal Music Group, the company announced. The contract could yield the band an estimated $15 million, according to people close to the negotiations who were not authorized to speak about them publicly. “Universal are forward thinking, creative and hands-on music people,” the band said in a statement. “We really look forward to working with them.” …

Marvel at its rests, gasp at the eighth notes, gape at the hand-written E-sharps! Then create your own rendition of the American art-poppers' forthcoming track These days, there's nothing surprising about a band releasing a single as a free download. But while Coldplay and the Charlatans mess around with MP3s, and Radiohead put laser video footage online, Deerhoof are trying a different approach. Sure, you can download Fresh Born, the single from their forthcoming album. However, you will have to play the damn thing yourself. Because, for the moment, Deerhoof are just giving away the sheet music. The San Francisco band are beloved for their weirdness, but this i…

I know everyone always believes there's a "Sophomore jinx" on bands as far as their second album. Yet bands like Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band, Radiohead, and Keane were immune to this with A Rush of Blood to the Head, Under the Table and Dreaming, The Bends, and Under the Iron Sea, respectively. Since many bands I like didn't go through this jinx, it gives me confidence in the bands like Mat Kearney, Daughtry, and The Fray, all of whom have upcoming sophomore albums. What do you think?

Customers at HMV stores will be able to avoid paying VAT by ordering CDs and DVDs through digital terminals. By Graham Tibbetts Last Updated: 5:15PM BST 21 Jul 2008 The "HMV Delivers" kiosks are being installed across the chain's 240 UK branches over the next two years. Their initial role will be to allow customers to order products that are out of stock in their shops. The merchandise will then be sent from HMV's offshore site in Guernsey. Under European law goods priced below £18 that are imported by individuals into the UK from outside the EU qualify for "low value consignment relief" and are exempt from the standard 17.5 per cent VAT. The digi…

Hello there, =] I'm not sure if this is allowed here, and I'll delete the thread if it isn't, but I'm in a band called Some Electric Life and I was wondering if the members of Coldplaying would be interested in listening to us. Our main influences are Radiohead, Tool, Coldplay, Beatles, Raconteurs, Bloc Party and alot more. We're mainly an alternative rock band, but we aim to have alot of hooks in our songs, so despite the "heaviness" of the music, it's still listenable and enjoyable. I am the lead guitarist/song writer (and also potentially backing vocalist in future) for the band, so I'd love to know what you think about our music. We're a very young band, …

Ok, so what's the consensus on this bi-curious offering from Ms. Katy Perry? It's not exactly award-winning lyricism, but it's pretty funny. And fun to bop along to. People are saying it's offensive and disgusting, which I guess is pretty offensive and disgusting in itself...aren't we meant to be PC and accepting these days? haha.... :P lol...anyway, what are your thoughts? Or are we Coldplayers above this mainstreamy music?

My favorite band from Isle Of Man, Back Door Slam, are worth checking out. Im not usually a fan of blues-rock music, but this band is just unbelievable. It probably helps that Ive seen them live half a dozen times in just 6 months. While checking my watch at 10:30 last night as Back Door Slam had taken the stage at Bowery Ballroom, I was secretly wishing I still was in CA watching Coldplay. But then Davy's voice and guitars began - and I forgot about everything. With only an EP and a full-length album (2nd album in the works) they played a mind-blowing 90 minute set that took us all by surprise (including the band who looked like at any minute theyd pass out). 2 encor…

Alright, the other day I reformatted my computer and just awhile ago I redownloaded itunes, signed in, and all my music was gone. And also said I recently pre-ordered Viva la Vida and wanted to know if I wanted to begin downloading it, when I'd already downloaded it. Will I get all the music I bought back? Most of it's on my iPod, but just before I reformatted I bought another load of songs. Help

I know most of the fans of the band "A Change of Season" are recent fans, but there is some bad news. I just received via Myspace message news that the band has indeed broken up after rumors of newer projects taking place. The band has ended due to personal reason, and they thank those who stuck with them while they were going strong. Lead guitarist Max Cappello and bassist Matt DePaolo have started a new group, called "Harborcyde". Check them out here: http://www.myspace.com/harborcyde My sincerest apologies to all who found new love for this band. I find this news a terrible tragedy, as many believed this band was to go on to greater things. But that's just how…
