Circus To Phase Out Elephants By 2018 As claims of animal cruelty have grown, the company that operates the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus has decided to stop using elephants in their circus shows by 2018. Alana Feld, of Feld Entertainment, told the AP, "There's been somewhat of a mood shift among our consumers. A lot of people aren't comfortable with us touring with our elephants." Feld Entertainment gave the exclusive to the AP, which reports: Feld owns 43 elephants, and 29 of the giant animals live at the company's 200-acre Center fo…

Hello everybody! :cheesy: Okay so this is driving me mad: Everytime I'm going to the cinema, there is this commercial is from Philips new Ambilight tv that they're selling. The ad is about 20 seconds long at most, and it mainly shows some guys surfing on surfboards that have glowing LEDs attached to the underside. Now, the only thing I'm interested in is that freaking song playing in the background. I searched the entire internet for it but to no avail. Btw it is NOT this song here: [video=youtube;6fcdXRUumMs] The song that they're playing in the ad I have watched is sung by a female singer, and the vibe/genre is very synth-y, almost like what M83 is doing. It…

This is way, way off topic but anyway, I went to my doctor earlier for a check up and I was surprised when I saw that they've gone digital. LOL I didn't even know that there are now Electronic Health Records. So I was wondering how popular this kind of software is. Does your doctor use this kind of system too? I think this way's better since they can access lots of medical data easily. Don't you think so? Though there's of course the risk of getting hacked. What do you think of this step from old-fashioned to digital? Do you think this way is better? What, in your opinion, are the pros and cons?

  7. A place to recommend or request documentary suggestions. I really enjoyed The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein recently. She has also written a book on the same topic which I have just started. It is about our model of capitalism and the way that it feeds off disasters (natural disasters, economic disasters and man made disasters such as war) and uses these to further widen the gap between the rich and the poor by taking advantage of these periods of uncertainty in order to crush any form of social mobilisation. It can be found online to stream for free but I won't link here as I'm sure the rules don't allow it. I want to watch the documentary on Edward Snowden and hop…

  10. Kodaline have been hovering around the U.K. rock scene for several years. They used to exist as 21 Demands, but changed their name in 2011, and added bass player Jason Boland to round out the group. Now, they're working on a second record, Coming Up for Air, which is due Feb. 9. There are other important matters, too. Namely, the fact that they keep getting compared to Coldplay. The Irish boys recently sat down with Digital Spy to address the issue. People seem to like comparing you to Coldplay. Do you find that frustrating? Mark Prendergast: "We haven't got any on the new songs. Steve Garrigan: "The thing is right, I'd say us and 500,000 other bands get …

And apparently Coldplay are one of them  Adele When Adele tweeted in May 2014, "Bye bye 25 ... See you again later in the year," many assumed we'd be getting new music before 2015 arrived. But it looks like we'll have to wait a little longer for the still-untitled (and yet-to-be-scheduled) follow-up to her blockbuster 21album, which sold more than 10 million copies and logged 24 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It means a British act has topped the list, which is compiled by the Official Charts Company, every year for the past decade. Sam Smith took second place, selling 1.25 million copies of his album In The Lonely Hour. In contrast, no artists broke the 1 million barrier in…

  24. How does a person’s intelligence relate to the type of music they listen to? For the last several years, a software application writer by the name of Virgil Griffith has charted musical tastes based on the average SAT scores of various college institutions. For example, students attending the California Institute of Technology have an average SAT score of 1520. By looking at Facebook to determine the most popular (or — “liked”) band of students at Cal Tech, Griffith was able to conclude that Radiohead really truly is music for smart people. A highly scientific study, I know. As Digital Inspiration points out, Griffith’s chart reveals Sufjan Stevens, Bob Dylan, The Shins,…
