I just hope this album doesnt tank for the band.
May 31, 200521 yr Author Try listening to "Parachutes" after "X&Y" and it's like night and day. This new record is not just a monumental disappointment, it's simply bad. Is it pleasing to the ears? Sure. Does it have any of the heart and soul that an album like "Parachutes" had? Absolutely not. This is a very neutered affair, and it's safe to say that Chris Martin has officially cut his balls off. The lyrics on "X&Y" are about as pedestrian and amateurish as I've heard in awhile. I was expecting great things from this album after hearing the buzz, but this is a dismal effort in every way imaginable. But it'll be huge, and I'm sure I'll hear it in every mall and grocery store I go to over the next few years. But this is most definitely NOT challenging rock music. This is Chris Martin gushing over how in love he is and filling his songs with some of the most obvious cliches I've heard in awhile. What a sad way to fall. 4/10 here is one of the reviews

May 31, 200521 yr Parachutes and X&Y are like night and day. Is that a bad thing though? It seems to me like most people just want recycled clones of old songs built into new ones. Coldplay needs to move on and I'm really glad that's what they're doing. I don't see the amateuring lyrics in X&Y. I find them amazing actually, but of course, your mileage may vary. The album is different from Parachutes, different than AROBTTH, and if I remember correctly, that's exactly what Coldplay was shooting for.
May 31, 200521 yr I totally agree with that review, and its been coming to them SINCE Parachutes. Martin has always been incredibly bland when it comes to lyrics writing, unfortunately the music has become just as bland. Its uncreative. It doesnt go anywhere. Theres no structure. This album couldnt hold water, not even if the CD design was a plastic glass. The songs, from first impression and still lasting, are 'samey'. There are very few high moments that just KILL the rest of the album. Square One is the best song by far, but possibly the reason everyone likes it especially is because it is the first song you hear among 12 other songs that sound just like it. OK OK OK, not JUST like it. But this album is a tightrope walker, afraid to stray away from anything but clear over ambitious melodies which just arent working at all. Christ, in comparison with this album, I LOVE Parachutes.

May 31, 200521 yr great avatar. I'm a bit disappointed by the album so far but I can't review it properly until I've had 3weeks/1month of listening to it. At the moment, I'm liking Low and 'Til Kingdom Come but we'll see how it grows. I've already switched back to the new Oasis one today though.

I think we can all agree.. even if this album doesn't compare to Parachutes... it's still the best CD release that anyone has seen since AROBTTH! :cool: and also, I think your missing the point.. it's not that XY isn't as good as former albums ... it's just *not* parachutes... it's like comparing apples and oranges... both fruits - but different and fantastic for different reasons... make any sense? :confused:

About the lyrivs.. they're much better than the one on parachutes, very emotional... Off coarse taste is personal, but i really love the melodies, especially the in and outro's...

That won't be of any succes... there needs to be a new wind into the music :P i stick to my point, coldplay has prooved they're a world band that create nothing else than SUPErGOOD music
