i agree completley with albie. fix you on snl was so damn good, then i heard the album version and now i might replace that one with the snl on my ipod. and what if just needed to let loose, that guitar riff is awesome but it seems drowned out.

THAT'S THE BEST SONG ON THAT DAMN ALBUM :(

I think this album is the weakest one out of the three

when Chris Martin said we'll never make another AROBTTH, he really meant it :/

i sorta understand why certain people want bands to get "stuck" in the same music as they have done before. it happens all the time. no one wanted Pearl Jam or U2 to make changes or Dave Matthews Band, and when they did they lost some fan base, many bitched, and many more came to love a band they never gave a chance before.

bands that have any staying power, whatsoever, change. however i can appreciate the hopes that "the band you once fell in love with" would continue to make songs that you know and love. quite frankly, it doesnt happen anymore...too often.

i am a different animal. i appreciate bands reaching out of the norm. i get tired of bands that re-hash their music over and over. does that mean that everytime a band does this i will like it? absolutely not. i dont really care for Pearl Jam anymore. does this mean that there are bands that i never cared for previously that i may like the "new" sound? sure, i liked U2's new album a lot.

Dave Matthews band has had its ups and downs by their most fickle fanbase (imo)...they are my favorite band and i love their new album. it provides somthing fresh from them that i havent heard in some time. i look at change with a bands music as a positive. when bands are as talented as Coldplay or DMB i want them to try to master many things, not just one thing. not all will succeed, but i trust that each band knows whats best for them.

through all that, i love what i have heard from X&Y.

It's not a matter of change, (ROBITH was different from Parachutes and I love them both) it's a fact.

In the previous albums, the bass lines, the guitar lines, the drum lines, the piano lines were outstanding and geniuses.

In X&Y all is simplified and banalized, that's it.

I am just going to comment on Dave Matthews Band, I used to be a fan. I hate the music they are making now. They definitely lost me as a fan. It's not different what they did, it was boring.

^ i agree, i used to be a huge fan too but they are a little past there prime imho..

but it regards to everyone not liking x&y..

dont hate. appreciate.

They are like 5 years past their prime. They need to give it up. I don't know how people still go to their concerts.

And yes, I totally appreciate the new Coldplay album.

SIMPLIFIED?!! :o Of all the things being said to describe X&Y, this is one word I did not expect to see... Banal? a little. Overproduced? maybe. Lacking soul? possibly. But not simplified.

I would say this is the most complex album they've ever produced (and more complex than a lot of stuff out there)... Whether this complexity translates to anything meaningful or not of course is another matter altogether.

At first listen, X&Y sounds flat... But so did AROBTTH (compared to Parachutes) when I first heard it. Still can't say that AROBTTH is easy to listen to, but I do appreciate it much better now. Critics have said that X&Y opens up to more listens. Maybe that's what we all need to do? Give the album more time (& more listens)... There is a whole lot more going on in there than is apparent :D

One thing's for sure, I think they have become more of a world band (though the original lot of us fans probably come from the Britpop movement)... Maybe some of us need to get used to their new styles too? I seem to notice a lot of repetitive (though complex) drumming... Euro-style electronica anyone? :P

Yeah I don't think X&Y is simplified.... I think it's a bit overproduced, but only comparing it to their previous albums, not other bands or anything.

One thing I loved about Coldplay was that they could carry a damn good song with few instruments...which is one thing I think makes them such a good live band too, and now I'm worried they've passed that stage. I guess what I'm trying to say is....I MISS THE PIANO

Either way, I still do really like the new stuff, it's just gonna take me a little bit to love it.

Does it have any of the heart and soul that an album like "Parachutes" had? Absolutely not.

i feel the same way. good CD overall, it's just a slightly different band.

I agree, but i still love it.

the album needs alot more piano!

Sorry man' date=' NO WAY. Heard new Oasis whom I used to adore and still like and yes Don't Believe is a return to form for them but doesn't approach Coldplay's new release. This album may be a dividing line amongst Coldplay fans. I'm at a loss as to how this album is disappointing. as I've said before, the coming weeks and months shall tell the tale :sneaky:[/quote']

In your opinion mate, the thing is, for me Oasis`s new one is better due to the songs that are different from each other, and each song has something going for it, wether it`s Turn Up The Suns piano/acoustic leading into the rocking electrics, or Love Like A Bombs simple but beautiful accoustics and lryics or Part Of The Queue`s great anthem like rockalong. Don`t Believe The Truth is exciting, whereas Coldplays new one is just boring, unemotional and average.

The only song on this album that could hang it boots up with Don`t Believe The Truths tracks is White Shadow, that`s a good song.

I know people don`t like these comparisons, but you have got compare them to what else people are going to be listening to, and the other stuff that`s available at this time, that`s what the regular record buying people will do when making the purchase choice.

Oh yeah.....the start and guitar bits of White Shadows is nearly identical to the Stereophonics Superman.

Usually, the taste of the people of that forum have good taste. I just hope this album doesnt tank for the band.

no way

it's going to sell bucketloads here!

MY WORD!!!! ALBIE HAS A POINT

lmao!

I never though this day would come :wacky:

Love Like A Bomb

what a TUNE

thats my favourite off the new album

but anyway yeah

there's no point in me comparing coldplay and oasis cos i love them both

its to be expected.... they were a different band when Parachutes was released.... Lacking in 'heart'??? Well of course some might see as that... but in actuality, if you really listen to the songs.. he's really pouring a lot of himself into this album. Probably one of the most 'personal' albums yet!! Parachutes hits home to everyone and holds a dear place in all of our hearts whether it be because of a certain time in our life... or the feelings that were conveyed hit close to home.. who hasnt ever felt depressed over a girl or guy.. love's lost and never had.... its universal!! That was Parachutes... delivering the sadness that he was/had experienced to us, the listeners.. he is now in a much happier place.. hence the music has changed. Hell, the entire band has changed!! But deep down, if you remain a true Colplay fan, alnd listen to the root of it all... its still our Coldplay.

ok rant over..

don't you read coldplay.com ezines? chris said he prefer have a few fans than have a lot of fans that just will be with them when they are going to do concerts, real fans keep waiting till the album is out, or close to.

I prefer that just a few people really like them, and help them as they can that go to a concert and find there's a lot of people that really don't like or had followed the band since some months ago. :/

Anyways i check a snow patrol board and they like the album.

:)

I was hoping this album (X & Y) would be the equivalent of what "Joshua Tree" was for U2...a radical departure from something safe...an instant classic...a perfect snapshot in tiime that captured the band at the pinnacle of their success and artistic talent. Sadly, the album (IMO) does not measure up to the expectations that I had. However, I do think the album is pretty solid...gave it a few more spins...it grew on me.

I really like "Square One" , the new version of "Talk", "Message" is beautifully written, and "White Shadows"is an incredible song. However, the rest of the album is pretty contrived and formulaic...

This album seems to split the party...I'm getting insecure now if the album is really what I expected....they seem to go in a very new direction...so it can happen that some of you guys don't like it although you loved the first 2 releases.....

the album needs alot more piano!

worng. it needs more guitar like moses, one i love, warning sign ect.

coldplay.com shouldn't have released the songs before the album got out. We're stuck with bloddy clips!
