REM are the best! If Coldplay have songs on their eighth or ninth albums as good as At My Most Beautiful, Daysleeper, Saturn Return, Disappear etc. I will be very surprised. In fact most bands don't have songs that good on their second or third albums these days!! I've been listening to Reveal a lot lately and it's amazing. Their new album is good too.

Did Coldplay ever tour with REM or am I imagining things??

I don't recall them touring together. Have they?

Michael Stipe sung 2 songs with the band at Coldplay's Austin City Limits show (In The Sun and Nightswimming) and Chris sung with REM (Man On The Moon) at a Make Trade Fair concert (I think it was MTF).

Been getting into REM lately, really enjoying new adventures in hi-fi!

I recorded their concert in Milan on MTV 2 weeks ago! How I wish I could see them live one day!!! Michael's voice is so incredible! It's so warm, low and dark also live ...so great!!!

Well I'm really getting into these guys now. Just got Life's rich pagent and Murmur.

Their earlier sound is similar to the newer, bouncy guitars!

Have you listened to Green? Probably one of my favorites....

An amazing band, every album is great in their own way (apart from Around The Sun, wasn't a big fan of that ) The new one 'Accelerate' is amazing! My favourite songs would be Feeling Gravity's Pull, Daysleeper, Country Feedback (Live versions are better than the album version), Undertow, Be Mine, Nightswimming. My favourite album could be either Up, Automatic For The people or Life's Rich Pageant depending on my mood. Good to see so many fellow R.E.M. lovers on Coldplaying :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I've been checking out bits of their new album and their classic stuff as well, and I'm liking it, but not totally convinced.

Can an R.E.M. fan give me a good jumping in point (i.e. specific albums/songs) to listen to in order to help me get into the band?? I'm thinking I'd enjoy them if I knew in which direction to head in their prodigious catalog!

Pretty much every album is good to start with, except maybe 'Monster' (has its moments) and 'Around The Sun' (arguably their worst).

I'd start with 'Murmur' though, if I were you.

It's their debut album, and it's a great one.

First album I heard was 'Out Of Time' though, and I've grown to become a huge fan since, so I guess that's a good one to start with as well.

Oh, have I mentioned having met Michael Stipe a couple of weeks ago?

Nice geezer.

Document, Green, Out Of Time, Automatic For The People, New Adventures In Hi-fi and Up.

Hard to pick one fav out of those albums they are all so different. The new album Accelerate is def worth the money as well. I first heard Green back in the 80's and picked up their back catalouge from there. Then I became a huge fan as each album came out after that. Around The Sun and Reveal left a bad taste in my mouth for some reason. Monster was just OK and Reveal has a couple of good songs on it.

Not long till I see them live for the first time!:D

Just over a month for me :)

Hopefully Ticketmaster won't fuck me over

if it helps any- they were playing stuff live from their reckoning album (one of their earliest ones - and IMO their best album ever) - i also think murmur is def worth checking out. Their earlier work is just awesome. id also consider eponymous (a sort of best of) and And I Feel Fine...: The Best of the I.R.S. Years 1982-1987 by R.E.M. - it might be best to start with a best of and figure out what you like.

or go towards their newer stuff and someone else mentioned some albums.

and harborcoat might be one of my favorite songs ever! im waiting to hear an incredible cover. and theres this beautiful cover album of Automatic for the People - which is my favorite of their newer albums.

Hello guys!:) I saw them in Budapest on Sziget. It was fantastic.:D

i saw them in Dresden 4 weeks ago. absolutely stunning!!!

i loved "let me in" (acoustic version). did they play that song everywhere?

oh, i wish i could be in London now to see them in Twickenham. i only live 20min away from the stadion... *sigh*

they're coming here.. 2 shows in november 3rd and 4th... in a little festival... I'll try to go to one of the gigs :D

I saw dozens posters of R.E.M. in Prague where they seemed to have given another concert. They must be very big there. :)

I'd like to see them someday, but the concert in Hamburg is too expensive for me.
