Coldplay, Adele, Hudson to honor Neil Diamond

Coldplay, Adele, Jennifer Hudson and Josh Groban will perform at the 2009 MusiCares person of the year gala on Feb. 6 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. As previously reported, MusiCares, the charitable arm of the Recording Academy, will honor Neil Diamond at this year's event.

Other performers include the Foo Fighters, who tend to appear at all Grammy-related activities, and country singers Tim McGraw and Raul Malo. Performing artists will tackle a selection from the Diamond catalog. The annual fundraiser, which is set for two nights before the Recording Academy hosts the Feb. 8 Grammy Awards, will be celebrating Diamond's philanthropic work, which of late has involved donating funds to Hurricane Ike relief efforts in Texas.

Diamond has been nominated for 12 Grammys and won in 1973 for best original score for a motion picture or a television special for his work on "Jonathan Livingston Seagull." Diamond scored his first No. 1 album on the U.S. pop charts this year for his "Home Before Dark."

This year, MusiCares recognized soul legend Aretha Franklin and hosted an extensive gospel tribute on its February Grammy broadcast.

UPDATE 7th February 2009:

Coldplay performed at the MusiCares Person of the Year tribute honouring Neil Diamond on Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, in Los Angeles. Coldplay played a stripped-down version of "I'm A Believer". There are some pictures of Coldplay at the event below (look out for Coldplay's new dress sense!)

oh this will be good!

awesome!!!

Oh, I love Neil Diamond's music. He has such a large collection of songs that Coldplay can choose from. Besides Sweet Caroline I wouldn't mind hearing them sing either Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon, Solitary Man, You Got To Me, Red, Red Wine, Thank The Lord For The Nightime,or I'm A Believer.

omg I'm A Believer would be amazing. didn't The Monkees do that song too?

Yeah. Neil Diamond wrote the song and recorded it and then the Monkees recorded it and made it more popular. It was then rerecored by Smash Mouth for the movie Shrek and they f**ked up the song badly.

I was thinking they maybe they should sing Cracklin Rosie or Red, Red Wine since Guy likes to drink. Those are Neil's song about alcohol. LOL!!

i did not like the smash version either. i loved the monkees

I'm hoping someone there will record the performance or a video is made of their performance because I don't think this ceremony will be aired on TV.

Oh man...I can't wait for this and the Grammy's! I'm gonna go try to see them when they're in town....

Nothing has turned up yet. They released the James Taylor tribute on DVD so maybe we'll get this one also.
