This mix reached me at a very odd time. I was coming down with something nasty, and it was making me very emotional so that my opinion on almost everything changed every time I listened to the mix. And even more than that, several of the songs were really screwing with my emotions in some weird ways. I actually ended up listening to a whole lot of Gaelic stuff for a couple of days to balance it out. Very weird.

So I didn’t dare write anything until I had gotten over the bug. I gave it a good listen today, and this is what I wrote, though I still think I would have a different opinion in about a month…

1. I loved this one, though it cracked me up at first because it sounds like they’re singing “Hey you’re playing with my Delorean” It has a great vaguely 80s electronic vibe to it that makes it all fit. Visions of flying cars abound. Great sound, great energy.

2. My favorite. A couple of French girls with amazing voices singing something with a great rhythm. The background noises make me laugh. I really wish I knew what they were singing about, but it’s sounds so happy and energetic it doesn’t really matter in a way.

3. A letdown after the last song. Folky Joni Mitchell wannabe without the art. Clunky lyrics. I just don’t like it. Sorry. Not my thing.

4. This drove me crazy the first time I heard it. It sounded so familiar, but it was just a long jam session that I had clearly never heard before. So I was racking my brain trying to figure out what other song used that first piano chord. Suddenly four and a half minutes in it breaks into Death Cab for Cutie’s new song and I realized that this is the long version I hadn’t heard before. Great song. Love it.

5. Has a funny kind of groove to it. I’m not sure how to describe it. It never does much for me to begin with it, and then I really get into it near the end just as it’s finishing. Good but a little frustrating. I think it needs about one more minute to be really satisfying.

6. Big bass line and ghostly vocals. Very intense, sparse (in a good way) and a little bit dark. It kind of give me shivers. I like it. *grins*

7. Awesome riff to open it. Really, really awesome riff. The guy’s voice is really strong but sounds a little emo in an annoying way. The overall sound is closer to the Chili Peppers than Fall Out Boy, though. I like the song a lot. It’s one of my favorites in the mix.

8. Sparkly, straight ahead, mellow, sort of 80s style pop. I like it ok, but for some reason it reminds me of being a little kid waiting in the doctor’s office while that sort of music played over the tinny waiting room speakers. The mind is a strange thing.

9. Rapid-fire not-quite-rap (faster than rap) lyrics. This guy must be good at tongue twisters. Funky poppy chorus. Not too familiar with his stuff, but it isn’t Jason Mraz, is it? Whoever it is, it’s got me bopping along.

10. Big piano chords, then something more hyper and poppy. One of the songs that I never think the same thing about twice. Sometimes it’s really annoying, others it’s lots of fun.

11. Sounds like a music box but much lower. Quiet and moody with a big dark streak that opens up into a big guitar freak-out. One of the songs that messed with my emotions the most when I was sick. Not sure what to think about it, though I don’t not like it. It’s the sort of song I could get a little too obsessed with when I’m in a bad mood.

12. Quiet sad guitar and just a simple voice. Very soothing except for the answering machine that ruins the mood. “Hang on/ help is on the way/ stay strong”. :D I like what I catch of the lyrics.

13. Adele – Hometown. My favorite song of hers. :nice: (I’m more of a Duffy fan, but I love this song.) It made my jaw drop the first time I heard it. Beautiful.

14. Has a scary bang start after the last song. It always makes me jump. Straight out hip hopish girl pop. Would be fun if she wasn’t singing about how she’s the centre of the universe, which just plain rubs me the wrong way.

It’s a good mix. A very good mix, actually. But I’m not quite sure what to make of it. It kind of has a different energy to it than what I work on or go for, and I haven’t quite figured out why. There just isn’t much that really sinks into my psyche and gets me really attached to it in the way I like other than Death Cab. But that’s just me.

My favorites were 1, 4, 6, 7, and especially 2. :D

Well, first thing first: thank you to my partner for this lovely mix! There's a lot of accoustic guitar on it and I would say it's overall a 'quiet' mix. It's really a nice discovery for me cause I didn't know any of the songs (except for one)! So it was a pleasure to hear this ^^

Track 1: wow it's beginning well!! I'm treated with a soft rock song with some indian vibe (is this a cythar??). I like the man's voice, kinda sound like the singer of Fleet Foxes. Really like this one! The cythar (?) parts are addicting. Great opener!

Track 2: accoustic guitar and man singing. A nice folk song.I don't think it's an old song but it has this 70's-flower power vibe ^^ Like it, makes me wanna run and go woodstock XD

Track 3: again, a dominant guitar song at the beginning, followed by horns and a great drum beat...An accordéon at the end, remind me of my dear country, feels like they ended playing the song at the top of Montmartre ^^ I'm not fan of this one but it remains a nice listen.

Track 4: After two soft tracks, here's an upbeat one to lift the mood! Don't know the band (well, I kinda suck till now XD), it's a duet man/woman. Their voices melt well together. I love the beat of this song, it's really catchy, makes me wanna dance!! Love this!

Track 5: again, accoustic guitar with a woman singing. She has a beautiful voice. This song has a warm feeling. It's really a lovely song!

Track 6: mainly accoustic guitar+man singing at first, then other instruments joins in, gets depth to the song and makes it really attrativ. Don't know the guy but he has a nice voice. I'm sure this song would fit well in an movie soundtrack ^^ Like it.

Track 7: At least, a song that I KNOW!!! I was speaking of Fleet foxes earlier, here they come!!! It's 'ragged wood', my favorite on their album!!! How did you know this XD?!! Are you a mind reader?! Love all in this song, just pure greatness!

Track 8: accoustic guitar song with a woman, becomes more upbeat near the end. Her voice reminds me of Bjork. Good song but I'm not totally diggin it.

Track 9: Didn't expect this one...some strange electroish intro (synth??), then two male voices (maybe more), hand clapping in the background, drums. I would call this 'experimental' but not in a bad way. I liked the 'water' sound at the end, funny!

Track 10: a kinda upbeat song. Man is singing, and again, I don't know why, I feel like I'm in the 70's ^^ I'm sure it's not an oldie but that's just the feeling of it. Like the drum loop on that one. This song goes crescendo, like this too, it's make it kinda epic. Good song!

Track 11: Remix of the 'Bolero' of Ravel if I'm not mistaken. But it's sounds also like 'Carmen'...Dunno by whom it's done but it's kinda nice to hear this music piece heard sooo often this way ^^

Track 12: Man's voice driven by a great drum loop and violins *w*. The bass line drives the song nicely. I would say that it's a voice a 'mature' man in his 40 (??), which makes the song kinda deep. It has a nice vibe through it and the violins make takes it to another level. Great ending song ^^ Again, could fit well in a movie soundtrack!

Now I can't wait to discover who those mysterious artists are!

Glad to hear you think it was a good mix :nice:

It was really hard for me to do this mix this time.. i don't really know why. I wanted to redo the whole mix about a day after i had sent it but that was too late bleh. I guess i made my mix in a hurry and didn't have enough time to make it as good as it could've been.

Anyway, the tracklist:

1. Ladyhawke - My Delirium

It took a while before this song grew on me but now i really like it. Ladyhawke is one of my new favourite female vocalists!

2. Camille - Ta Douleur

To be honest i have no idea what she's singing about either  I just love the weird background noises, always makes me laugh.

3. Billie the Visionist and the Dancers - I Belong To You

A swedish unknown band i'm just getting to know to. I like their lyrics in particular.

4. Death Cab For Cutie - I Will Possess Your Heart

I really like the super long intro. And i just always have to sing along when i hear this song. My favourite death cab song at the moment.

5. Empire of the Sun - Walking On A Dream

I heard this one on the radio a while ago and it cheered me up immediatelly. Putting this song on this mix was a bit risky 'cause i knew most people would find it really annoying. I do too sometimes actually haha.

6. Bat For Lashes - Trophy

A last minute choice to add to this mix. i haven't actually listened to this song that much but i gave it a go and liked it enough.

7. Incubus - Anna Molly

I got so addicted to this song some time ago. I was listening to it nonstop for days haha. I just love the guitar riffs and the great energy the song has.

8. Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere

Briggins introduced this 60's band to me some time ago and i fell in love with this song immediatelly. One of those songs that make me sing out loud.

9. Jason Mraz - The Dynamo Of Volition

I actually didn't pay that much attention to this song when i started to listen to the new Jason Mraz album. But at one point i started to properly listen to the lyrics too and i realized how great they are!

This is, as well, one of my cheer up - songs.

10. The Apples in Stereo - Same Old Drag

I totally get what you're saying there. Sometimes i think this song is awesome and sometimes i can't stand it because it's just TOO cheery.

11. Kashmir - Melpomene

Kashmir is one of my all time favourite bands and i really like their style and the singer's voice. Not all of their songs are this mysterious and dark though.

12. Jason Mraz - Details in the Fabric (feat. James Morrison)

I recently realized how much i like this song. I always like to listen to it during night, it's just so calming. Again, Jason Mraz is really good with lyrics. The answering machine is a bit annoying indeed but there's nothung to do about that i guess :\

13. Adele - Hometown Glory

Ah, my new favourite Adele song. I guess i have a need to listen to this kind of slow, powerful songs.

14. Little Jackie - The World Should Revolve Around Me

Maybe this one was a bad choice for the last song but i had decided that i wanted the last song to be something cheery and with fast tempo. I haven't listened to this song too much to ruin it and get bored of it so it's nice to listen to it every now when i'm feeling cheery!

I just got my mix today but haven't got a chance to listen to it yet..i'll do that soon though

nice mixes and reviews guys...i hope you could provide links to your mixtapes. thanks. ;)

2. Camille - Ta Douleur

To be honest i have no idea what she's singing about either  I just love the weird background noises, always makes me laugh.

Here I can be of a little help ^^ She's saying that she will take back the pain of the person she loves. In the song she compares the pain as a little mean girl who likes to play mean tricks to the person she loves and to sum up Camille says that she will kick this little devil in the ass, that she will spank her and make her regret to cause pain to her love.

By my calculations we now have just three mixtapes left to be sent and one with unresolved technical issues.

The deadline is 11pm tonight (GMT)

Of course.

Maybe we should also add a list of recommended uploading websites to the next signup thread. :)

i suggest using multiple file uploaders like sharebee or uploadground.

I wanna listen to my mixtape. :(

Looks like I won't get it.

i suggest using multiple file uploaders like sharebee or uploadground.

Oh cool, thanks! I'll definitely use one of them next time! :nice:

Is Mediafire a good uploading website?

i find megaupload good for downloadings, is a fast one, but i couldn't got to upload anything there :\ i think this one only let uploads if you are registered.

Is Mediafire a good uploading website?

Yeah, I think it is.

Thank you :nice:

It was very easy to use, hope it works for the one I sent it to.

I'm listening to my mixtape for the 2nd time now and i really like it!!

But I will listen to it a few more times before I post my review.. although I'm already very anxious to what bands are on it! :D

 2nd time is the charm for downloading my mix!!! I GOT IT!

:wacky: Having my 2nd listen as well.

I'm on my third listen and writing my review in between exam coursework and cups of Tea.

That said. I might make a cup of tea now.

Glad to hear you think it was a good mix :nice:

I just got my mix today but haven't got a chance to listen to it yet..i'll do that soon though

link for that mix:

http://rapidshare.com/files/20131768...mix_3.zip.html

So, i've listened to my mix about 4 times now and i'm ready to write a review about it

1. I think this is Apocalyptica. I liked the song from start to finish the first time i heard it but on the 2nd time i didn't really like the start of the song that much. It always gets better towards the end though.

2. I absolutely love this song, haha. So cheery. I have NO idea what this band is..i like the retro vibe. The crazy fast drumming (also those bongo(?) drums) is something i really like. And the humming (=papapapapa) parts. This song makes me want to dance!

3. When the singer starts to sing i can never decide if it's a female or a male singer.. the beginning is a bit weirdo indeed. Only the chorus makes me a bit excited about the song..meh, and when i do get excited about the song it ends! Just my luck

4. I guess i'm just not in the mood for this kind of music. It's a bit too slow and mysterious.. The acoustic guitar and the occasional strings work really well though. During the whole song i'm just waiting something bigger to happen.

5. L-O-V-E the clapping and the bass line in the beginning. So catchy. The singing is really cool too, that man's voice has a nice vibe in it. Just a random guess but this could be one of the dude's from "Black Eyed Peas". Definitely one of my favourite songs on this mix.

6. I'm 99,9% sure that a song by this same band has been on another coldplaying mix. (you know, those mixes that were made back when Nik was still around)

A nice song, nothing super special though.

7. I don't really fancy this song. It's ok as a background music but the second i actually start to pay attention to what's going on in the song i lose interest in it. It's the singer's voice that i can't get into.

8. This song is very mysterious..it's also short (only 2 mins) which is a good thing 'cause i think i would've gotten bored if it was any longer. I'm actually starting to like it. It's refreshing to hear something so amazingly bizarre for a change.

9. A pretty basic rock song. The singer's voice sounds somewhat similar to Chris Cornell but i doubt that it's him singing. The song gets better towards the end because of the "Ooo-oh" parts and the more intense singing & playing in general. The guitar riff in the end could've lasted a bit longer though.. it feels like it all ends a bit too soon.

10. The nice cello hits me right away (yay, for cellos!). The singing is really soothing. I really like it when the woman enters the song too, that was a bit unexpected but it was a nice suprise! The lyrics were goood, man! This song is definitely going to be one of my new favourite songs. "I'm not sorry i met you. I'm not sorry it's over. I'm not sorry there's nothing to say.."

11. Yay, the only song of the mixtape i knew already! I quite used to like this song but i guess i've gotten a bit sick of it to be honest. I haven't heard it in a while though so it was a nice add. I can't even remember the name of the woman though *shame on me*

12. I was always in the mood for much more energetic music after the song before this and maybe that's one of the reasons why i didn't really like this song that much. The singer's voice is a tiny bit annoying. There are good parts too though (around 2:00 for example).

This song didn't really make an impact.

13. I just don't like most female singers in general and unfortunately she's not one of the few i like. It's a beautiful song but it's just not my cup of tea.

Okay, so after hearing the first song i was 99% sure that this was Nina's mix (She has mentioned a few times that she likes Apocalyptica).. i'm dying to know if i was right

addition: Oh, i think one of the themes had something to do with female vocalists & that calm music to go with it.. this is only a wild guess though haha

i hadn't received mine :( nor the review of the one i've done has been posted.

I'm working on it now - I need to download each of your partners songs individually then re-upload them as one mix with no titles... might not get it finished 'til tomorrow as rapidshare is being slow.

Sorry!

That was mine! :D

Getting the tracklist together now...

Oh and you're about a third right. The themes were strings and girls and very often strings played by girls.
