too many shows

Featured Replies

i absolutly love seeing coldplay. Im so amazed at the talent of them all but they are just overdoing it with the shows. i just looked up u2 tickets and every single ticket is sold out to every single show. This is because in the whole 360 tour leg of North America there are only about 12 shows. People complain about the crowd sucking because Coldplay has just played too many shows the demand has drastically decreased. What they need to do is cut the us shows in half and visit South America and more of Europe where they are jonsing for Coldplay. It's simple as that they may love America but you need to go where you haven't been or it's just gonna get played out.

I would like for them to play alot but if they were setlist changes and other show changes should be made. Otherwise regular fans who are fanatics like us arent going to want to keep going.

I think I agree with you on this. Other bands touring schedules are not nearly as crazy as Coldplays. I was looking at tourdates for The Killers the other day and I was thinking to myself "This has to be wrong, there are so few dates." but then I realized that it's just that Coldplay tour 3X the amount of most bands.

I looooove seeing them live so much, and will never tire of it... but they should slow down a little :\

I disagree. Some bands are just touring bands, thats how they make the bulk of their money, and I like the fact that I actually get an opportunity to catch a band of this caliber on tour.

too many shows? no

to many shows in the US? yes

The Killers need to come to Florida :whip:

and yes, Coldplay has to go to Latin America :whip:

I do agree with you in the fact that they have too many shows, and that they are getting very picky in playing in another area which is not US nor Europe.

They should really go to Latin America and not charge $97.50 for a ticket, that's completely nonsense. They are only playing in US and Europe, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, UAE! - Basically just where the money is acquired easily....

I also understand that these are tough times for the economy, and for the music industry as well as live entertainment. They also have to put bread on their tables for their children (Especially Will now, that has twins) But yeah I get your point. They have way too much shows, not changing the setlist, and just getting away with about $1.5 million per concert.

The question now: Is Coldplay, Coldplay, or Coldcashers?

It's all about the Benjamins $$$$$

Yes, but u2 selling out that quickly for a stadium shows that people still go if they want to. If Coldplay didnt tour as often they would be selling out like crazy and they would be fresh to put on an AMAZING performance.

Totally agree with you. And yes, they should announce soon Latin American dates. The last I heard its that they'll probably come in January/February 2010 :\

they always leave Latin America for the year AFTER everything is over with. :laugh3: :\

I don't think Coldplay is touring too much since they don't tour every year or so like Dave Matthews Band.

The Killers added some more dates for Sept., they are going to be on what I think is the second North American leg of their tour since like the beginning of this year. I think they are touring just as much as Coldplay right now. Their schedule is non-stop until September. I've never been to a Killers show so I don't know if they change setlists or anything.

U2 is an even bigger production than Coldplay so they are only playing in stadiums and such at this point. They can only play in big enough cities to ensure sold out shows. And I guess they don't want to play when the weather gets too cold so time is a factor. 20 shows total in North America, they are playing 2 nights in some places. If they add another US leg during the winter time, it'll have to change to an arena show affecting the whole 360 concept. And yes, I am going to my first U2 show at Giants Stadium. It better be good, I have high expectations.

Yes, I think they are touring too much. If they go to Latin America in Nov/December they will have been touring the same album for 18 months with barely any breaks. A few weeks here and there.

I think they could have done without the dates this summer and focused more on festivals, places they haven't been (Portugal for example) and Latin America, then finished off with the stadium gigs in September.

And the number of times we've heard them say "well after the AROBTTH/X&Y tour we were so burned out..." yet they're touring this album just as, if not more, intensely than the last.

Totally agree with you. And yes, they should announce soon Latin American dates. The last I heard its that they'll probably come in January/February 2010 :\

really???? i haven't heard that! :( i heard November. I'm from Peru but live in the States and i've been looking forward to a Latin American tour!!!!

@halokiti yeah. being a DMB fan i guess i've been spoiled by the amount of shows they have and their constant touring for the last 18 years

it is my fear

We had purchased tickets to see Coldplay in August in Mansfield MA (5 hours away) before the Hershey show (10 minutes away) was added to the calendar along with all the other dates. I love the guys and LOVED the Hershey show ... and I'm glad we went, as I fear they will tire by August. Also, I've never seen a Hershey Stadium show with so few in attendance -- I'm thinking because the Philly people had their own show, and the DC people had their own show, and the Pittsburgh people have their own show. But I give the guys credit -- they played to the crowd of 12,000 in Hershey like it was 50,000!!!

Too many shows? Sadly, I do think so.

Greedy? I don't agree. 1) They don't do the bookings; and 2) From how appreciative they appear to be, I think they thought it a service their audience.

South America? I absolutely am pulling for you!!!!

Yep, far too many North American shows, they should play bigger venues in some of these places once a tour rather than two or three shows in smaller places. I'm sure we'll get a burn-out towards the end of this year and then a long gap a la Twisted Logic.

On a selfish note perhaps I know they are (Chris is?) obsessed with being the biggest band in the world, but playing almost as many official tour shows in some smaller US cities last year as in London is ridiculous.

i half agree, half don't.

i agree because: i hate seeing the crowds get so bored and tired. they're never jumping or singing anymore. plus, i don't think the boys like it either. :(

i don't agree because: i LOVE seeing coldplay four times in 10 months. :P!!!

For my own selfish purposes, I'm glad they're doing all these shows now so I can catch up with all the years that I wasn't turned onto Coldplay. (I basically just discovered them last year... I know... WhereTF have I been??!!)

But looking at it objectively, I have to agree with the original poster. We in the Philly area have gotten them 3 times in the past 12 months. It's really not fair to the legions of fans they have worldwide. As much as we would like to believe, the world does not revolve around us in North America.

Well when the leg is finally over, and they go back into the studio, it might be 1 to 2 years of them not being on a tour, and everyone will complain for a new tour:)

I agree about U2 being sold out, they are playing to a huge stadium crowd which means they can afford to tour less and make the huge bucks with less dates. This band is alot older than Coldplay and has been around alot longer, their band worldwide is bigger than Coldplay.

I leave it to the band, they know what their doing and why they do what they do. I am pulling for you guy's in Latin America!!!

I'm pretty sure Coldplay recieves a bulk amount per concert, whether they play to 5,000 or 18,000 it's in their pockets regardless.

I really think the number of shows reflect the desire of the band to get to as many fans as possible! Coldplay amaze me in that respect however, if a member gets sick, especially a lead singer then perhaps it would be wise to reconsider the number of shows!!!!! Only Chris will know if his voice is ok etc................. Just wish I could see more of the band's shows but that would be me being greedy lol!!!!!!
