Coldplay say YES! to Glee

Featured Replies

I watch Glee with my girlfriend because she likes it, and I think the humor can be pretty great, but I don't have really care that much about this. I mean...I'm a little disappointed. I won't care if it's any song on X & Y or a few that are on Viva la Vida, because some of the songs are pretty...generic.

That said,

Coldplay did an iTunes commercial. I know lots of people have, but that's...um...ahem...A COMMERCIAL!!!

Frankly, I don't think Coldplay are doing anything that bad. This is just going to open up a lot of young people to good music. They might not appreciate organic or well made real music now, and they may need the gloss of Glee, but someday they'll come around as we all do.

Sometimes the first time you find out about a great song is through an above average cover of the original song. Then you find the first version and fall in love.

Who knows really. I just hope they don't let them use The Scientist. Because that would be personally devastating. I'm hoping it's something like Fix You...:smug:

Agreed. Well put, by the way.

I just hope they don't do "Politik". My heart would be saddened.

I hate Glee but love Coldplay :) With that said, I support whatever their decision is. All I know is, if they will be featured on Glee, I will be watching despite me hating the show! I don't think this is a bad thing either and people shooting be flipping out over their decision. Just maybe they're into the show ;p

NOOO!!! Glee is a stupid and shitty tv show! If Coldplay lets them use a song then they're going commercial and throwing away everything they stand for! NOOOOOO

Agreed!

Using Fix You would be worse... its their best song... and it means so much to me personally

i dont want to see stupid teenagers deficate all over the onlything that could make me stop crying on some nights.

if they used Fix You I'd probly go insane and start throwing babies out the window and convusing on the floor... an the same time.

Coldplay + Glee =

DO NOT WANT

I agree. I don't like Glee either, and I think that they made the right decision :)

I wonder if they'll use more than one song of theirs. I'm sure it wont be like the Madonna episode where it was dedicated to her. I can't wait for the Britney Spears one if they ever do one :D

Out of all the Coldplay songs, I am assuming they'll use either Yellow, The Scientist, Viva La Vida, or maybe even Clocks.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I'd rather watch something that actually has Coldplay in flesh.

Besides, I don't watch T.V anymore, so I'm probably never going to watch it.

Ah shame...

I just watched the first episode, and the part where they did Imagine in a later episode... I'll probably watch just the sequence with the Coldplay song, because, you know, Coldplay rules, but it'll probably just comfort me in my decision to not watch the show.

I'm not really against the show, it's a very nice idea, which deserves to be aired, but... The way it's been done just makes me shiver. There doesn't seem, to me who only saw the first episode, any type of strong motivation for me to be rooting for the characters. Finn's the only one who could be interesting, but he's not the main center of interest (apparently...) and having only one character like that is not enough incentive for me to go on.

As far as the actual music goes, it was pretty decent - Rachel's got an incredible voice, but sadly her character's personality is sorely lacking in humility (the one who'll do anything to go ahead? Stop the stereotypes, please! Speaking of stereotypes: the black girl, a korean girl, a handicaped person and a gay kid seems a little bit too much like affirmative action AKA positive discrimination...). The signature song, Journey, was well interpreted, but it seems to me that Rachel's voice was a bit... overwhelming compared to the other characters. Sure, it goes with her character (as somebody who sees herself as somewhat superior), but since I don't like her character, meh.

What annoyed me the most was with Imagine, John Lennon's masterpiece, and one of my favorite songs. I only saw the song being performed, I didn't see the episode, so I can't say much about it, but a number of problems seemed to appear:

- a deaf choir? I've nothing against deaf people, but I'd never heard of deaf choirs before (so I was a bit surprised...). The idea is a good one - I think sign language is nice - but...

- with a lead who can somewhat "sing" sure seems like a nice idea, but the overall performance, in my opinion, was weakened (I cringed halfway through)...

- And what bothered me the most was that, well, the New Directions folk seemed to usurp the performance.

Looking over these problems, they don't seem to be huge, but I still didn't like the performance, as much as I love the song itself.

In other words, I shudder at what they might do to any of Coldplay's songs... But, if they manage to get to the same level as the material used - that is to say, if they manage to do something wonderful - then I'll definitely tip my hat off to them, and not badmouth the show anymore.

My 2 or 3 cents...

welcome to the board!^

I was listening to a radio station today and they did some news on Glee and the girl announcer lady said

‘You know how Glee does artists and bands songs?

Well Glee asked Coldplay and they turned Glee down

And now they realize that was a mistake

(background – other people ‘yeah wow..’)

DUUUMB’

I was so angry!!:shifty:

Thanks! This sure is a nice forum!

Of course, as some have said, having a song performed on the show would be a good promotional boost. So... In the end, it depends on how the song is performed.

I really REALLY wonder why the hell they changed their mind??? :(

Maybe they were pressured into it or something. I dunno.

Ideas?

i hope they dont choose the obvious songs, i'd really like to hear like pour me or moses

^that's not going to happen :p

I like Glee.

So, I approve of this.:nice:

Hallelujah!!!!! So happy they declined! :D I hate that show... :P

^ Haha, wtf? That really made me laugh out loud. I love that he writes 'bollocks' and that he signs it with pHiL.

Phil- YOU LEGEND! :D

oh pHiL!

that will be the only glee show I will probably watch

This is Phil Harvey, right? Why is he referring to himself as pHiL? :D

Oh! Maybe!

just posted this somewhere else, but:

If Coldplay is on Glee, I will actually lose some of my respect for them. seriously. I've never truly been disappointed in the boys before, but if this happens I'll be so disappointed in them!
