Who or what got you started on Coldplay?

How did you start Coldplaying? Please, share your stories! Let me share mine:

I was watching a best-of episode of the Antiques Roadshow (of all shows) late at night and the song Clocks was used for a few moments. I knew then that I had heard the piano progression before, and couldn't for the life of me find out what song it was. It was driving me crazy! A short while later I was listening to Pandora Radio (a Maroon 5 station I had created) and BOOM! Clocks played. I kept listening and eventually (on May 10, 2010) I became well acquainted with the song Viva la Vida, and I thought to myself, "I freaking need to get this album!" :wideeyed: Thankfully the local library had a copy of Viva, and the rest, they say, is history! Now I'm obsessed and addicted.

So...how about you?

P.S. If there's already a thread like this, feel free to merge or refer or whatever the heck you want to do. :D

Was in car on the way to ice skating, listening to my local radio station. VLV came on radio and I had heard it several times before, and for some reason it was making me feel Christmasy. For reasons unknown, I asked my Mum who the song was by. She said she wasn't sure but she thought that my Dad ahd the CD with the song on at home. When I got some I put the CD on, listened to all the songs and then heard VLV, as until then I didn't know the name. I didn't like the other songs as much, but I listened to them all several times over and over. There, I was into Coldplay, and I was also into music. Coldplay. <3

Ahh, nostalgia...

The music video for Trouble (and the song, of course) is what got me hooked. After that I purchased the Parachutes CD. And although I would play it more than any other CD in my car, even then I only considered myself a "casual" fan. My appreciation for them has grown steadily throughout the years after each LP release, up to my very first concert last June, "discovering" all those b-sides and demos, teaching myself to play piano, the utter fan-geekdom of the End of Decade Auction last December, and going to London next month.

But it all started with Trouble.

This is true for me too! it all started with Trouble, I loved Parachutes & AROBTTH too but I didn't consider myself a "fan". Later I saw the "Planet Rock Profile 2005" that was aired when they released X&Y and I totally loved the fact that they seemed really nice, funny and down to Earth and that made me like them even more, I also thought the accoustic versions of the songs were superb...needless to say I was already hooked by the time the show finished...:D

Urmm... maybe a mixture of ways

Like when I was younger my sister played me the songs all the time but I never really payed that much attention to who the artist was untill Speed of sound came out and I REALLY loved that song and learnt all the lyrics and listened to it constantly. Then my mum brought a Coldplay album and played it and I realised that all these great songs I recognised and they were all by the same artist!! :D

i fell in love with them when i heard yellow and saw the video in 2001. i still remember i thought chris was a nerd but had The most beautiful voice. I had a fight with my parents and yellow just made me happy, it still has the same effect on me. I can be real down and yellow lifts me up.

So we have a lot of seasoned Coldplay fans here. I'm pretty much a noob, having been a fan for a little over a month. :) Thanks for the stories everybody.

My mom bought Viva the summer of '08 and the iTunes ad helped a little

Yeah that ad was pretty awesome. :guitarist:

Umm. . . summer of 2009 my cousin played Viva for me on her violin, and I was embarrassed when I said I didn't know the song. So I bought it off of iTunes, then the album, then X&Y and AROBTTH, and then Parachutes and Prospekt's March. In that order :P

For Christmas, my brother bought me a physical copy of X&Y and then I bought the Viva/Prospekt's March. Most of my music is digital.

I heard about them before that, but the day my uncle put the song Viva la Vida twice in his car changed my life.

Then I downloaded the album, then I bought it, then I bought all of them, then I bought a concert ticket, then I went on Coldplaying.com, then I posted in this thread.

^ but a fan of coldplaying since 2008

there are people that beat you there

Wow, I didn't know that being a member of a Coldplay forum such as this, which is full on mindless people, softcore porn for the ladies, and full of senseless crap in the lounge, measured the level of "fanness" toward Coldplay.

Most people that joined early are gone by now because of this same issue, maybe you could follow the same footsteps. ;)

Back in 1999 when I heard Yellow's video for the first time on MTV.

BEAT THAT BITCHES

@jelynch2 ...she was the same as you. ;)

VH1 and Chris Martin - Yellow, back in '99.

As for me I discovered them watching the MTV Movie Awards of '08 when they were performing Viva La Vida live for the first time. I fell in love and it goes on from there to my addiction of Coldplay...:P I had heard them before that though, apparently my sister had AROBTTH and she used to play it around the house I just never noticed the music enough to like it. :shame:

When I was about 5 or 6 my aunt and uncle had the album Parachutes in thier car. I would carpool with my cousin to school because we went to the same one and every morning I'd look forward to hearing it on the way to school, I've been a fan since then. :D
