COLDPLAY: NO NEW MATERIAL AT GLASTONBURY

[...]

“There definitely won’t be anything new before Glastonbury and their summer dates,”

The headline suggests something very different to the actual content. It just says there won't be new stuff before their festival performances. I'd even say the headline should be "New material at Glastonbury"

LP5 "NEWS" FROM THE ORACLE

March 1, 2011 - submitted by Nils, Germany

Q. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING Q HAS BEEN EDITED BY O.

Is this the truth??

"I think Chris Martin is fooling around everyone about what Coldplay has done for LP5 until now. For example, "SONG TITLE EDITED" is evidently in the album and it's a precise song.

People, these are the only real facts you must know about the new LP:

a) The album is completely recorded since December. Band is still choosing the songs amongst those done and presenting them to EMI to make the final tracklisting.

b) The schedule is that NAME EDITED and/or NAME EDITED will mix the selected songs around March

c) The album will be out in May 2011

Take my words for granted, and keep them for the record, whenever these news will be confirmed."

The Oracle replies:

Firstly let me just explain why I have edited the question...

There is a lot of speculation surrounding details of the 5th album - of course that's to be expected - but as you know anything other than what we report here, via Anchorman and Roadie #42, is probably just hearsay.

What I can tell you about the post you found regarding the "facts" is that they're not true.

The album was not finished in December, nor is it now. It will not be mixed in March and it will not be released in May.

YES, some decisive answering! As much as they want to keep things secret and private about their work, with all the ridiculousness that surrounds them sometimes, I'm glad she decided to just put her foot down and answer some things.

I take "will not be released in May" to mean that it will not be released around May, either. I'm really gearing up for October, here, personally.

^^

No release Soon confirmed

finally some news from The Oracle...and refuting what locust7 posted in this forum a month ago...I guess October is the month people, but that does not mean that we will have to wait until then to hear new material. I think they will give us an appetizer on the summer festivals.

The person may have gotten the mixing people correct though, she didn't say that those were incorrect.

...If the album's as far from being completed as it sounds, they wouldn't mix it in March. If they mixed it so soon, it would almost definitely be out around May, and she said it wouldn't be.

I think we kind of have to take her word for it, since it's official, and stop trying to find loopholes. Not to be a Debbie Downer or anything :P

Is that question she edited the blog post with all the ridiculous song titles in it?

I agree.

Well I'd like to see someone ask her about his most recent post where he admits that the "plans" he posted earlier (referenced in the Oracle question) had changed.

edit: Oh and I suppose the people who voted February are officially out of the running today.

Hhmmmm maybe they were ready to go but decided the album wasn't finished but by then the band had commited to these festival dates.

What other reason could it be? Not even to have the confidence to play a couple of new songs speaks volumes in my opinion.........

I'm off to the Bakery to investigate!

Oh no. I just realised something. With Beyonce at Glasto this year.......I reckon JayZ will duet on Lost.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

:dizzy2::uhoh2:

After that news,I'm gonna vote for autumn as well:huh2: Hmm..not happy... :(

this is easily the most depressing oracle question that I have ever read :( and I was having a really good day and eveything too...

With Tim Wheeler in the studio and such a few weeks ago it was clear the album was certainly not finished. 90% sure it's a late September/October release date. They'll have recording finished in June and then mixing of the album throughout the summer while Coldplay are on the road across the European festivals to be released in probably October. Much prefer an October release date than a May/June one.

plus Guy has commitments with his other band App-whatever most of March, so I imagine not a whole lot will get done this month in the studio anyway

Well why the eff did Jimmy tell Simon that LP5 was finished at the crises gigs? This is like lost...cept I don't think my questions will ever be answered...

Edit: wow effing autocorrect, jonny*

Even if these news make me kind of sad it's good to get some sort of official statement that the album won't be out anytime soon. I can move on a bit with my life! :P

Eh. I don't know....

I don't particularly find it a reliable source. So I can't say that it's true and, at the same time, you can't dismiss it totally.

If I'm honest, if Coldplay were doing their own shows in the summer (like Kings of Leon did) I would expect some new material. However festivals anyway are places to exhibit the 'best of' back catalogue-- so playing new material doesn't fit that mould.

All I want is the album if I'm honest. I was hoping for it to be my summer anthem-- I guess it will have to be my autumn album now (I don't know how to handle it... They've always released albums around my birthday before)

Lemme back up a bit to the "no new songs" tidbit real quickly...even if it turns out to be a bunch of tabloid junk, I really can't foresee them playing more than a couple new songs, anyway. If your entire audience is unfamiliar with much of your material, they won't be into your show very much. I remember they played "Glass of Water" a few times before PM's release, but that was just one new song, which was perfectly okay in my mind since it doesn't break up the flow or audience connection too much. Say what you want about Coldplay playing a bunch of AROBTTH before its release, but that was before Coldplay really had a large and established backlog of material.

But at the same time, I would hope that they don't merely repeat the Viva setlists. Tracks like Trouble and Shiver were played again at the intimate December gigs, and they can probably incorporate some other oldies that were dropped during the Viva tour (all of which would make me insanely jealous of everyone there, of course :P).

As for the Oracle reaffirming the pushed-back release, I sort of accepted this earlier with locust's post, but I guess this is another nudge for those who were holding out on more official word. I think what some of you guys are upset about is the fact that we've gotten so many different answers on when the thing will finally be released, even from the band members themselves, that it's become a huge tease game. That's perfectly understandable to maybe be a little frustrated about, but with the band coming out of the woodwork for these festivals, at least you know they're not just dawdling around. It takes a bit for bands to get "back in the swing" of touring, anyway, so hopefully their performance can be in tip-top shape once they're ready to debut the new material live (though I'm sure the festivals will still be quite dandy with the old material, too!).

(I'm usually the pessimist with these types of things, but I'm playing a bit of role-reversal here :))

I wonder if the album delay has anything to do with "Mrs Martin" and that Chris is writing songs for her at the moment?
