My predictions for LP6

My predictions (and hopes!) for LP6 can be summed up through these songs (one from each album):

  1. Spies
  2. Clocks
  3. Talk
  4. Violet Hill
  5. Major Minus

What do these have in common?

  • Exceptionally cool sound
  • Acoustic
  • Deep, cryptic lyrics (except for Talk)
  • Intensity

Add a dash of quiet (U.F.O.) and a dash of happy (One I Love) and we will have a very cool album in store. As Mylo Xyloto was originally two different albums, one acoustic and one not, I think we'll see an acoustic one this time. But I'm sure no matter what they come up with it'll be pretty great as always. :)

It's really hard to predict what LP6 will become at the moment. but I guess they'll continue to make "anthemic" and "sing-along" songs.

Coldplay, give us horns. (ie Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground or Life Is for Living)

I don't know why but I can totally see they putting something like this as their new anthemic (next Viva, Etiaw) song in LP6:

but I guess they'll continue to make "anthemic" and "sing-along" songs.

that is exactly my problem you see. why do they feel the NEED to be anthemic and do trite happy sing alongs?! why do they want to please a wider audience so much?!

^Chris always talks about how their music is a reflection of how they felt at that time. They are obviously very happy right now, as MX reflects that.

And unfortunately, Chris has also talked about the fact that sometimes he writes music based on how exciting he imagines them live. So I think the anthems will continue, but I don't see that as a bad thing. Sure, its a breath of fresh air when they strip it back, but it just wouldn't be Coldplay if they didn't go big.

I don't mind some stadium rock, but why commit an album to one genre or sub-genre when you can branch out. Maybe two or three acoustic songs, a few electric rock songs, and a few anthemic songs. I think it's why I enjoyed AROBTTH, because they had a bit of everything.

But tbh, I think this is what they did on nearly every album. Even on MX.

Acoustic: UATW, U.F.O. Up In Flames

Electric Rock : HLH, DLIBYH, ETIAW

Anthemic: CB, Paradise

Electric Rock : HLH, DLIBYH, ETIAW

HLH, DLIBYH, ETIAW are NOT rock, not matter how hard people make them out to be. in fact i only count major minus as rock in that album. you're right about the other songs though.

^ Because stadiums are fun for them. They all say how much they love hearing thousands of people sing together.

very true. doesn't necessarily make for great music though

So Chris has been listening to the following songs (link), I wonder if we can hear anything like this back on LP6.

These are interesting... I could imagine them making an album and incorporate these different styles into one.

Mylo Xyloto is a little step into this style?? I'd like them to do that! exept rap, please NO rap.

The only song that was pretty good was the one with Dire Straits. The other songs though... :/

So much good stuff there.

Considering that they hate X&Y and knowing how eccentric Chris is, the new album should be like X&Y. I said.

Cool - dire straits! My art teacher played money or nothing on YouTube in a lesson. Aswell as muse!! Lol best lesson ever!

Good Lord, Chris. If you do dubstep you better know what you're doing. I really don't want Coldplay to f*ck up like Muse did on 2nd Law.

That being said, if this is what they're drawing inspiration from then I have reason to be excited for LP6. This might be the most bold and far-fetched album yet.

Muse didn't f*ck up on The 2nd Law

Dub step would be awesome. It would have electric influences like MX, but instead of uplifting synths, darker dub step. But with that, please add in some harder rock songs (a wish that won't be granted).

Dubstep is a very fine line. Especially for a band that you would never think of doing dubstep. I don't think listening to madeon means that they are going to do dubstep, but the more I think about it, the more I feel this would wreck Coldplay.
