Coldplay already told MTV News that they decided to roll the dice and go with the inscrutable title of Mylo Xyloto for their upcoming fifth album. But when the time came to make a video for their second release from the disc (due October 25), the beat-infected "Paradise," they went all in and reteamed with a director best known for lensing clips for some of the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B (Kanye West, Mary J. Blige, Rick Ross). "We just started to do a video on Monday on 'Paradise,' " singer Chris Martin told MTV News at the Austin City Limits festival. "And the bits that we're not in are being done almost as we speak." The new clip — whose concept Martin kept under wraps — is being directed by Hype Williams, who first worked with the band three years ago on the title track to their last album, Viva La Vida. That clip had the feel of a Renaissance painting, complete with cracked paint effects, and Martin said they decided to work with Williams again because, well, why not? "We're just following the things we love," he said. "The video we did before, for 'Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall,' we did with our friend Mat [Whitecross], who is the most indie of indie filmmakers. It's just nice when you can try both approaches." Between working with Williams, opting for a cryptic title and roping in a surprise cameo from Rihanna on the song "Princess of China," Martin explained that Coldplay are just rolling the dice because they've kind of earned the right. "We felt like so many people have already made up their minds about us ... both good and bad," Martin said. September 21, 201114 yr :shocked2: :shocked2: :shocked2: I can't believe no one likes VlV official video. Really. I think the concept is just amazing. The band playing against the background of mellow colored skies, inside the legendary 19th century painting. And Chris with his piercing blue eyes, dancing awkwardly as if he was standing on the edge of an abyss, wearing a white shirt with a red tick, which looks like a bleeding bruise. And in the end they all scatter into rose petals... Eh, you must be kidding. That's enchanting.
September 21, 201114 yr Just putting a painting like filter on the usual band playing video is not what I call an enchanting video to be honest, I didn't like it all, especially compared to the Anton Corbjin directed one. In general I'm never impressed by videos with just the band playing, unless it's something really special, which is not the case with Viva.
September 21, 201114 yr Ehm, maybe it's just me. Maybe my reverent feelings towards French art and Eugen Delacroix in particular makes me admire this video. For me that's not just "painting like filler"(by the way, I wonder how much time it took to develop those "filler", obviously you cannot choose it by default). It's a chance to plunge into the magic atmosphere of beige and brown pastel shades of the legendary masterpiece. It is really one of the greatest works of art, and it leaves you in utter amazement whenever you see it. Not touched, eh? I am, though.
September 21, 201114 yr I've been lucky to have seen it with my eyes, and if that's a piece of art the video is completely the opposite, it's like using the best colours and brushes for a bad subject. The idea of the filter is good, but it's what's behind that is not, for me, it's the same reason why I don't particularly like ETIAW video. But hey each to their own, after all it's always a matter of taste :)

September 21, 201114 yr I'd rather Mat Whitecross, that guy knows how to make Coldplay videos, the videos he makes are not "WOW" like Strawberry Swing or LiTii but really fit with the songs. Lovers in Japan is my favourite video. Agreed.

I actually find Lovers in Japan and Violet Hill as good as Strawberry Swing as videos and I like them better then LiT II, but I also really like the Viva one, it has a great atmosphere to it. So I guess everyone just thinks something else anyway.

September 22, 201114 yr THe Itunes Viva la Vida Video is by far much better than the official one - I wish they made a full song version of it - it's just more visually appealing, and you really see jonny enjoying himself, and that space like effects on it really enhance the video Much prefer the Anton Corbjin video, but that was good, but not great. Love the ETIAW video - Mat Whitcross is great - he has a great vision, and executes it well - really like LiJ video. And I liked how they did LiTii vid - the puppets were funny for sure. I hope Hype doesn't screw this one up again - paradise is a massive song, and deserves a great video. So far etiaw was very good, so hopefully it continues....

September 22, 201114 yr Last day I was just thinking that I've always liked the choice of coldplay to make videos with no girls or models........:facepalm: This girl is pretty enough, but I don't like her so much....well I'm a girl...my opinion is not so relevant :P why a model and not an actress??
