Finally! Sorry mixtape maker; I didn't realise this week was going to be so much chaos. (I should've figured with 4 gigs, an interview, 3 reviews and actual working/studying )

Just a heads up, two of the tracks didn't have their info deleted properly/the file name was still the song name... Ironically it was the two tracks I recognised anyway. I really liked how you named all the tracks and gave it an album name, twas a really nice touch.

1) Starts straight off with a really nice track that has tonnes of awesome bass guitaring and a steady drum beat which I really approve of. Then the electric guitar comes across the top in it's like warble and man it's good. And I love the vocalist too. When the chorus kicks in I'm blatantly rocking out in my chair. I love this so much! Who is it?!

2) Starts with another nice male vocalist from the start with this really nice keyboard part in the background which reminds me of Palma Violets a little. And then the guitar kicks in and it starts getting louder and lots of rolling on 'ohhh's' in the background over the chorus. I qite like it though, although I could do with more of the louder parts because that's more my street.

3) I know this... It's F.U.N- 'Some Nights'. I keep meaning to listen to their album and I just haven't got around to it. I think I probably should because judging from this I wouldn't mind it.

4) This starts straight away with a 'ayay ayoh' for like a significantly long time and lots of hand clapping. I quite like it. It's really quite dreamy and pleasant to listen to. It's got everything I like on a track, guitars, drums, synths... And there's a contrast between the lead male vocalist who has this quite high voice and the other male vocalists that have quite deep voices. I'm totally 'ayay'ing' along with it by the end. Also: massively appropriate is that this has been entitled 'Sail On'.

5) Whoa, that's a weird instrument... Sounds slightly oriental? It's some sort of strings though I can tell. There's also a bass guitar in there somewhere and a piano. It's a really interesting combination. Oh and there's strings on it too. Literally so much going on. I'm not sure I love it though, but I certainly don't object to it. I probably would have it on whilst doing work.

6) It starts with what sounds like a heartbeat-- which is appropriate considering it has been named 'Reborn'. Oh I like and think I should know this voice-- hand clapping and tamborine at first and then drums and electronic beeps until the guitars kick in at a minute. Oh I really like this, right up my street. Especially the fact that it goes from the 'ooohhh' emotive bridge into a badass chorus. I could totally dance around to this. Love it!

7) This starts really daramtic, slightly classical and then you get the drums and the piano. The only problem I find, and I know it sounds awful, is that the singing is in another language (for the verses) and as much as the rest of the music is really catchy and interesting I get distracted by trying to work out what language he is singing. So I can't concentrate.

8) This sounds like The Fray-- is it? My interest wandered off their career at some point. I do really like it though. As I've said like a zillion times before now, piano, guitar, bass, drum... Basically everything I need to enjoy a song. And also nice vocals that fit my more sedate, relaxing days. Yeah, by the end of the track I'm about 90% sure it is The Fray (and if it's not, when did they get cloned?!)

9) Uh, I don't really like this song. It's far too airy fairy for me; it lacks the bite/substance I quite like having. And her voice grates on me a lot. Sorry.

10) Oh accoustic, I always forget how much I like it until it comes on my iPod. This is a really nice and pleasant track, her voice is really easy to listen to as well (and doesn't wind me up either).

11) I kind of can't judge this track as it's one that has the name... And also I knew it was Jonquil. I prefer the stuff off their latest album to this though :P

12) Oh both a male and female vocalist. I'm not sure I like the female vocalist too much on the verses because she's doing the whole breathy thing (if people get me?) but then I have immediately taken to the male vocalist so I just can't make my mind up. And I like the music itself with main basis being this piano driving the song with the additional strings and drum in the chorus. Ah it confuses me because I like it at points and then I don't. :explode:

13) It starts off a bit melodramatic and a little too boyband for me? Like I can kind of envision this being the sort of track that has a guy standing on a beach on the rain doing the whole air grab? It just strikes me as really bland. Not a fan.

14) Ahhh a piano intro with the real far off hints of guitar in there, I find it really appealing. The female vocalist is on this border between being really annoying and not... But it works really well in terms of this song. It's got this real weird aura around it. And I like that it is so atmospheric. This will probably end up on my end-of-the-evening chill list.

15) Aw, final track is called Home. Nice. It starts off by sounding like it belongs on The Sims. Oh and hey, it's again a different language so to me it actually does sound like The Sims Building Mode. I can't take it seriously. Sorry!

Overall a really nice mixtape which flowed really well and I enjoyed the vast majority of it. Very pleased considering my fussy music taste. Thank you!

Hi Natt, I'm glad you enjoyed it. And I had a very busy week too, so no worries. :) Thank you for listening/reviewing my mixtape! btw, I'm Stefanie.

Here are some of my comments:

1. The band is called Young the Giant. The first song I discovered from them was “Cough Syrup”. And I love the singer's voice too!

2. Imagine Dragons, I've just discovered about them just a few months ago and already a fan of their music!

4. The artist is Goyte. This is one of my favorite songs from him.

5. This is also by Imagine Dragons, haha. I couldn't resist on putting another song by them :) I think this is the first song I heard from them..

6. This from OneRepublic one of my very favorite bands and this is their first single off their upcoming third album. Yup the beginning is the sound of heartbeats of children in need.

7. The song is in Mandarin Chinese by Van Nes Wu a Taiwanese singer. Honestly, I don't know what he's saying without looking at translations haha. I just like the sound of the music....and this song was co-wroted with Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic. :D haha

8. Yup you're right, this is from The Fray. :)

songs 10 and 14 are both a soundtrack of a show, “Switched at Birth”(which I've been obsessing quite a bit haha), which stood out a lot to me and had to put it on the mixtape!

11. Umm I've never heard of Jacquil. I randomly heard this song from YouTube it's titled "All I Want" by Kodaline.

15. The song is in Taiwanese Hokkien, personally I don't speak the language. But I used to listen to this band a lot during my highschool days and was relistening to their songs again this year. This is one of my all time favorites from them.

Woah, I don't know many people who actually listen to Cider Sky, apart from that song on Twilight. Great stuff, eh?

And to my mixtape maker, sorry for keeping you waiting. I'll have my review soon this weekend.

To my partner: sorry for taking such a long time for my review. I'll try to post it tomorrow

Awks if it isn't.

Well, it's not Rudy's tape (He's not participating), but given the artists, I have a pretty good idea who it is.

Well, it's not Rudy's tape (He's not participating), but given the artists, I have a pretty good idea who it is.

Yeah me too, heh. These two have pretty similar taste in music.

They really do. It's remarkable.

hey to my mixtape maker, i listened a little bit of your mixtape, liked it, i'll listen it again and write my review this weekend..

Hello dreamorlife! I made your tape :D, let's make some comments. (Violet and Marie, were you thinking of me?)

Okay, here we go: my first mixtape review:

I got a partner who managed to delete all the song-information and made it into an own iTunes album so listening to it was very convenient . It also had a cover, some kind of light-reflections. Great effort has gone into that, compliment on that! :)

Thanks! The cover is just a print screen from Charlie Brown music video with some effects :P

Track 1:Great beginning :D. This song has a kind of comedic feeling to it, it sets you in a good mood. Starts of with a piano and a male voice which I like and has some (I think) deliberately overdone chorus things. A really "fun" song. But because he always sings "Some Nights" I always had to think of fun, which made it even more funnier because this song sounds absolutely not like them :D

Well, I'll make it even funnier for you: it's Fun! This is the intro of the album Some Nights, I really like it and maybe you could take a close listen to it :)

Track 2: Animal Skins by Dry the River is of course an awesome song, cool coincidence since they are not that popular and I get someone who apparently likes them (they were even in another mix tape, it's Dry the River time :D ) :) I love the 7/8 bars which are thrown in, if you listen carefully you can make them out (drummer's habit :D).

I don't know nothing about bars and things like that but I'm glad you liked, I had no idea what kind of music you liked so I just gave a try to a bit of everything

Track 3: Here I have to start guessing because I don't get anything of what the singer sings (not even the language :D ). A bit of understated guitar (don't know why, but I think of these chords as french-sounding), a male voice and some quirky chorus synths make this a decent listen. Maybe I like it better if I know what this guy sings about.

Yeah, I felt I had to put brazilian songs in it . So everything you hear that's not in english is in portuguese. That's Los Hermanos's O Vento, an indie brazilian band from the begining of the past decade, they were well known for mixing rock with more traditional brazilian pop and samba. I admit I wasn't hooked at fist listen too, love it now. The lyrics are most about time.

Track 4: Waste by Foster the People! A great song, love that chorus with the bells and these intro sampler/whatever thing. They always get this mixture right of catchiness and creativeness,

I love this song, my favourite from Torches! Glad you like them.

Track 5: Seems to be older judging by the recording, my least favorite so far. Maybe I'm just to young, but this combination of music and melody in german would be what my grandparents listen too, can't really get into this one.

Yeah, this is a old one(1967). Caetano Veloso's Alegria, Alegria. A classic here, it's about freedom and it was really important as Brasil was under a military dictatorship at the time.

Track 6: That one makes up for everything, perfect placement ;) It is an upbeat rock song, love these fast danceable kind of songs. It sounds a bit like Two Door Cinema Club with a bit more edge and less of these dance influence and more straightforward rock. The intro guitar riff is really cool, so simple but so effective. I again don't get anything he says, will be really curious about finding out what all these songs I can only "hear" are about.

Cara de Vilão by Cartolas! This is a perfect example of the kind of music the bands in my city play, this was their only “hit” (well, it played a lot on the radio stations of Porto Alegre), but it's amazing!

Track 7: upbeat song with driving drums and some fast acoustic guitar. Is only 1:43 minutes long, so not really notable. Goes by too fast to leave an impression, but I'm liking it more every time I hear it.

I really like short songs , this one is Oasis' The Meaning of Soul, I added it on the last minute because it felt it flowed better with it.

track 8: "Deepest Shame" from Plan B's "Ill Manors". As I love that record, I love this song. Dark, atmospheric, but a bit more relaxed than the other tracks on the record. Would deserve a Mercury.

I love ill Manors!!! My favourite album from this year, I was going to put Playing With Fire but I was afraid you wouldn't like too much Hip Hop, this one is more like a "proper song" and felt like a better way to introduce people to his work.

Track 9: Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds would be my guess. He's a great songwriter and singer and I really like his style of music. Brings a cool britpop-feel to the mixtape (any Oasis-fans correct me if this is not britpop :D )

Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks, I really like Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, you should check this album if you enjoyed the song.

Track 10: Some 80's drums, not to memorable chords and a bit cliche trumpet in the chorus turn this into a decent track. Not something I will remember, but I also won't skip this track on future listens.

Well, it is an 80’s song. I wanted to put a ballad here, this one felt right, this band is called Paralamas do Sucesso and it was very famous around here until the late 90’s.

Track 11: Interesting song, the singer has an interesting voice. Bit of a folky thing in here with an ukulele and accordion. Also adds a definitely more interesting brass section than nr.10.

I like it and it's also a nice contrast to the electric songs (not that I don't like them, it's just more diverse this way). At 5:43 the second longest track here, but its really worth the time.

Beirut’s Elephant Gun :wacky:, there was a very short running TV Show here that used this as soundtrack some years ago and I fell in love with this track, this year I started to check more things by them and really enjoyed it. But none of their other songs tops this one for me.

Track 12: Catchy, but the kind of catchy I like :D Again in a different language which I like because I didn't really expect to be introduced into such new territory (regionally). Strong chorus, really enjoy this one. Need to get a track listing because I honestly will never figure out the artist otherwise :D

I had alredy put a song from this album on the last exchange, I just love it so much! It’s by an indie band from my city called Tópaz, I went to one of their gigs some months ago and it was awesome :awesome:. You can download this whole album for free on their site if you want http://bandatopaz.com/onzenos

Track 13: I've got the really strange feeling of having heard this track before, but I can't really remember when. More synth-loaden than the tracks before, but not in a bad way. The only thing bothering me is the dominant synth riff which is repeated throughout the song: if you like, good but if you don't like it, well then you hear it every 20 seconds which makes it a bit harder to listen to. Would be put it in the middle of enjoyable and annoying.

Arcade Fire likes to repeat some riffs on their songs . This is City With No Children from The Suburbs, great album, you might get annoyed though:lol:.

Track 14: Bracing myself for nearly seven minutes, the longest track. First of all thanks for including that, I normally keep such long tracks to myself because I bore everyone else who isn't that into music but I find it really cool (and somewhat brave) to include it.

I am really getting used to this language whichever it is. Halfway through the song there are some spoken words and then some effect loaden things/synths/samples which then bubble along in the background. Perhaps my favorite track because its so weird (even with a piano solo at the end, combined with funky drum fills). And I just noticed that it seems to be a double bass being played in the song. Thanks for that one :)

Ok, here’s an interesting thing, I got this album when I was 7 years old because one of the track was a huge hit in Brasil and loved it, when I was like 14 I used to hate this album and the band, don’t ask me why, maybe because they are almost a hit factory. So a couple of years ago I started to take a closer listening to them and realized they had some really great stuff! But whatever, this is Nômade by Skank and I can’t understand what the spoken parts say because I have no idea which language it is too, so at least I know how you feel at some points .

Track 15: I love these combination of songs I like and know and songs I don't know (even if that was unintentional). I love Bon Iver, and if I am not mistaken this song is Hinnom, TX. Great record and fits really good in here.

I wasn’t a really big fan of Bon Iver before the last exchange, it felt like the right thing to put it on this one because it ended up to be the artist I listen the most from the tape I got.

Track 16: Some acoustic guitar fingerpicking, going a bit folky again. But I like mind men singing in harmonies (see nr.2) and therefore really like this song. A great ending to a great mix tape

That’s Mumford & Sons’ For Those Below, I wanted to finish on acoustic way, and this is a lovely one :)

So thank you to whoever made this mix tape, I really enjoyed and will enjoy listening to it in the future.

A great introduction to the coldplay mixtape exchange as this was my first time and a special thanks for including so many songs of your language (?) which is really interesting, just listening to music and judging it just by the sound and without lyrics.

If you want me to I can translate the brazilians songs for you, just ask

15. Friday Afternoons: Op. 7: “Cuckoo!” – Benjamin Britten (Moonrise Kingdom Original Soundtrack)

great song. I actually worked on a beat with one of NZ's best hip hop producers sampling this song...

REVIEW COMING SOON

Yeah! quite nice songs from them. didn't know they had a Twilight song till later actually :)

What, really? How did you come across them, then? Because Twilight was the reasn I heard of them :surprised:

great song. I actually worked on a beat with one of NZ's best hip hop producers sampling this song...

:awesome:

Okay, so for starters it turns out that I had the song order right to begin with, meaning the mix just happens to begin with songs from the beginning of their respective albums and gradually moving backward throughout the tracklist. Does this mean my partner didn’t bother to reorganize at all, or is it just a coincidence? Either way, it runs fairly smoothly.

1. Oh my, this is already too much. Sustained, rythmic piano chords, an (enya feel with the cello) leads into a pretty saccharine keane/one republic vibe radio ballad. I already see swooning teenage girls, and it hasn’t hit the chorus yet. Ahh, there it goes. Well produced, car-ride singalong fare. But in all honestly, it does nothing for me. Pretty much a song I’ve heard everyday for years through different singers on my soft-pop/alternative radio station at home. I find that I take exception to virtually any song in which the singer glorifies himself. “You’re gonna have all of me, cause you’re worth every falling tear, you’re worth facing any fear…let me wrecklessly love you...you’re gonna know all my love… etc etc”

2. Glistening, chiming fading in…oh god. Sorry, but every part of me wants to skip this track. I was really hoping there were numerous songs with the title ‘all the angels’. Absurdly overplayed and kitschy imho. Sorry if I’m being mean, but just being honest. It’s kind of like putting ‘closing time’ by semi-sonic, or wonderwall on a playlist.

3. Haha, okay. Dance tonight by Paul Mccartney. Even after the ipod ad, I took a bizarre liking to this song, even listened through the album a few times some years ago. I’m genuinely nodding and enjoying it, actually. Nice pick.

4. Similar beginning to the first track. Smoltsy chiming piano, and a bland keane-esque voice. Wait a minute…is this keane? Yes? No? maybe not. Probably not. Has a hopes and fears vibe at times. The chorus melody is nice, but also many of the same things I disliked about the first song. Hate the lyrics…they’re like Chris Martin at his worst (haha, as I type this he sings about Christmas lights). If I don’t get hung up on the details, it’s well produced and would sound lovely on a piano.

5. Voices saying ‘Santa maria, Santa Teresa…’ sounds a bit like Eno’s Apollo in the background. Pops of classical guitar and a light rythm. Strings now. Interesting. Female voice enters. Sort of Disney-ish or new-agey, but I’m enjoying the atmosphere. Calling all angels. Interesting title given the train song of before. Interest dwindles toward the end with the chorus repeating, but still enjoyable enough.

6. Arpeggiated clean guitar. Maybe it’s my experience at a Christian college, but the whole close to the mic, radio singer-songwriter, male taylor-swift vibe is just something I don’t care for. I have a feeling this doesn’t bode well for the rest of the tape. Just by the sound of it, I’m guessing its Christian rock (yeah, caught a glimpse of the artist). Not your fault that I’ve been at war with the stuff for four years.

7. Soft guitar and singing in the yusef islam style. Voice is a bit over-stressed and dramatic, but not bad so far. Ah, and here comes the big emotional weepy chorus with rising violins. At the same time I recognize a point in time when I would’ve submitted to the pull of these types of songs with head bowed. There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with this song, just too cloying for me now.

8. Rushes straight into some type of chorus. Feels like a pretty decent recent-era ‘the killers’ imitation. Brandon Flowers would love this. Okay so far, curious where this could possibly go, seeing how the high point seems to have passed. Entertaining fade out. Cool beans.

9. TINGLY PIANO :D

And some 80s crunchy guitar. Whiny male voice per usual. “If I had two hands doing the same thing. Lifting high, lifting high…” As usual, I take exception to such predictable songs. This one keeps the same formula as pretty much everything before it. There are other ways to write songs. I know nothing in this song will impress or surprise me as I keep listening.

10. Back to clean, reverberated arpeggiated 4-chord guitar riffs. Similar voice to

several others on this mix. A female voice somewhere there as well. Ooh, synthy chorus. I like this melody. ‘You will never walk alone’ (no, a different one). Could do without some frills. The high-pitched echoing male voice is particularly irking. One of the better songs on the mix, though. I would probably enjoy this more if I didn’t have contemporary Christian kicked out of my system. Nice song though, a comfortable listen.

11. Harpish capoed guitar, or maybe a mandolin or ukulele or something. Leads into a high-pitched voice, and a warm arpeggiated riff. Don’t mind it so far, good singer. And here comes the big radio chorus again. I quite like the instrumentals. Very nicely produced, the verse percussion and strings are great.

12. Acoustic guitar, another 4-chord progression, but a bit more relaxed. Decent voice. Some curious atmospherics. “Amie, come sit on my wall…” Chords get a bit more complicated, a little more interesting as it goes along. Many of these songs are bit overdone, with all the strings arrangements in the choruses. But this one is used effectively. The fade out is beautiful.

13. Another acoustic guitar, and another close-up douche-bag (excuse the term, you’ll understand in college) guitarist musing on love. Yeah, can’t take this seriously on any level. Sorry.

14. Cool synths fade-in. Oh yes, MLK by U2. Kudos. I love this album to death.

15. Violins. Chiming piano. Enter softly strummed high-capo guitar and emotional whiny male singer, but he has a decent voice, and fits in nicely with the elaborate arrangement and tinkly frills. For chorus description, see above. Enjoyable though.

16. Warm reverb guitar and synths. I like the intro. Pulsing beat, some glockenspiel and background noise. I would hate for a whiny male singer to ent…oh shit. Voice is actually pretty good, he can handle high notes. Song far from ruined. On a certain level I’m really really enjoying this. Less ostentatious than some other tracks. Nicely done.

17. Ooh, Harold Budd style piano chords. Shimmering violins and light percussion. Really nice instrumental so far. Easily one of my favorites on the mix. Ending on a pretty positive stretch.

18. Whoops, there’s more. Piano again, a slow waltz rythm and some backwards loops. High, nice female voice. Blending in with the plink of celeste and piano. Smooth major chord progressions. No complaints here. Nice closer.

After the final listen, I’m guessing the order was deliberate, as it flows quite nicely. Obviously some trouble dealing with particular brands of songs. These mixes often force me into a retroactive mindset, to where I’m forced to tap into an older teenage me, to appreciate what are by no means bad songs. That is to say, I don’t mean to be a snob, and if anything this tape reminded me of a musical perspective I had quite forgotten since early college. In that regard, this was definitely a successful tape, and I seriously enjoyed several songs. Altogether, I’m grateful for the work you put into it. Thanks again![/color]

Hello there Tnspieler1012 I was your Mix Tape partner.

First off of all I was not expecting such a big review on each song, thank you so much. Oh and I'm terribly sorry for taking so long to tell you, just busy working and going to school.

Second, that first song, I just wanted to tell you what the true meaning behind that song was. All of Me by Matt Hammitt. His wife was pregnant with their third child, they were going to have a son and then they find out that he had a heart defect and would need several heart surgeries after he is born. There was a very high chance that he might not even live too long after being born because it was that bad. Well with all of the scary stuff going on he wrote the song as a comfort for his family. He did not want to be afraid to love his son because of how much he was in danger of dying at birth, he did not want to give "half his heart" despite the situation. So the song is also explaining and say that he's going to give his son all of his love and hold nothing back and not be afraid to love him.

Those are a majority of some of my all-time favorite songs. I dont like very rocky stuff at all, well no, I shouldn't say that, its not that I dont like it, its just not my style. I was very excited to share this mix tape and could not wait to hear what the review would be like because there are a few certain ones on this mix tape that really really deserve more credit then what there getting.

The songs Pacific, Slow & Steady, Needle & Thread and All This to Say by Sleeping at Last.. now I vow to tell the whole world about him because he is my favorite singer ever. Ladies & gentleman if you love Coldplay I'm so certain that you will like Sleeping at Last... he's just one singer, his name is Ryan O'Neal. His music is a gentle whisper of hope and love, you feel like your being hugged when your listening to him. Its a feeling unlike any other. He has the exact right lyrics and melodies to be able to lift your spirits up, you cannot help but smile and be in a good mood when listening to him. I highly recommend him to anyone who enjoys piano, violins, acoustic, mandolin, soft melodies, its not too loud or too soft.

The songs Two Hands & Shelter by Jars of Clay.. now I was not too sure of what you would say or what anyone would say about that song, its hard to figure out. Their music is a lot like that, some lyrics are a mystery and takes some decoding to figure it out. I can tell you that Jars of Clay is defenitly the "Coldplay" of Christian music for sure, they actually have a lot more in common than you think, if you listened to a lot of songs from Jars of Clay you would never think they were a Christian band but they are my favorite Christian band. Their music is very physicalogical, philanthropic, an elixir, philosophical, very deep and powerful lyrics that pertain to the world, some political,. They are very different from the "normal" Christian music artist, like I said if you listen to most of their songs you would never think they were a Christian band.

I'm glad you liked and already knew the U2 song in there, U2 is amazing. They are one of my most favorite bands. All of these songs pretty much sum of the kind of music and melodies I absolutely love listening to, it shows my personality, it makes me look at the world in a better way, they give hope and love to your soul.

There are a few other Christian artists in here, yes, I'am a Christian. The Afters, Brandon Heath and Tenth Avenue North are a few of the biggest names in Christian music. I dont consider myself a fan of any of them but I do absolutely love the songs that I put in here by them because they way they wrote them and portrade them, it was in a way that was gentle and comforting and not a in your face Jesus type of song but explaining the message in a way that would not feel uncomfortable to people who are not Christians or do not believe in God. Its perffectly okay if you did not like them I'm not going to force you to, I just have been inspired by all three of those songs and really wanted to share them because if something inspires me, anything, I have to share it with some one. :)

The songs Lullaby, Bring Me Close, MLK, I usually listen to those at night when I'm going to sleep. Lullaby is just the absolute 110% most perfect song for falling asleep to.. its so lovely.

Thank you again for listening and for your review. Take care hun! =)

It's okay, Chris, we have a different taste in music in general. It isn't my favourite song of his, maybe you wouldn't think he is a douchebag had the song been different. OH WELL.
