IcingOnTheCake Posted December 6, 2013 Share Posted December 6, 2013 So my history class today actually turned into a discussion about women's rights when one boy in my class said that the communist idea of women being equal to men was a bad one. This discussion lasted about half an hour and mainly involved the teacher arguing with this guy and the entire class giving him disgusted looks. I don't even know how/why this contributes to the thread, I just thought it was interesting, especially considering the fact that women still aren't exactly equal anyway. On the other hand it is fair that these things are posted across FB (where I saw it about three times), to raise the issue you raised and therefore develop and refine ideas, but also for people who never even consider these things. It is certainly the case that these things should be discussed in depth and all arguments criticised, but it's vital that simplified debates aren't annulled, otherwise plenty of the people who don't normally give a thought to these issues won't interact with it. Unfortunately, those people need to be pandered to for a full societal shift on the matter. That pic could be the thing that makes somebody click and sets them on the road to a new way of thinking, even if by the end of that journey they find that they disagree with their starting point. As for shaming children into not exploring their sexuality with inanimate objects (I think that's where you are going) then you have to look at the target market for this.
