August 30, 201510 yr The wait between GS and AHFoD is a little different than the longer waiting periods between most of Coldplay's other albums for a couple of reasons. For one, each of those other albums was followed up by a massive international tour that lasted 2+ years. Even though we weren't hearing anything "new" from the band, we did get lots of pictures and audio of their performances which made the time pass faster. We also got lots of interviews and in the case of ARoBttH and MX, live DVDs. Secondly, by the time we started getting official news about each album, the guys were already very, very close to being done, if not done already. In the case of MX and GS, we didn't hear anything about the title or tracklisting until a month or two before the album dropped. And thirdly, GS has been generally accepted as a sort of side-project that wasn't really planned until Chris and Gwyneth split. The album that we are currently waiting on was probably supposed to follow MX but was pushed back (at least, that's the way I understand it). With AHFoD it's a little different because we've known about the title since, what, the beginning of this year? I think we've been accustomed to hearing the official title and then getting the actual album just a few months later, if that. Instead, we've been waiting, like, 6 months with no end in sight. We also didn't get the traditional international multi-year tour after GS like we have the other albums. That means very little live material, pictures, interviews, etc. (although we did get a live DVD shortly after the album dropped). Add that to the dozens of rumors flying around that we'll be hearing official news "soon" and it makes it seem like this 1.5-year wait is at the ending stages of a normal 3-year wait. Once the guys give us some official news, I feel that will get the ball rolling and the last leg of album anticipation will feel just like the lead-up to MX and GS. Thank you for your explanations, that does indeed make sense !

This is exactly right.

I feel the exact same way about AHFOD being the 'original' follow-up to MX and GS being just a 'smaller' release. "I live to see the world"
August 30, 201510 yr Well, anyways, Any1 got any news? What do you think? [emoji24] "I live to see the world"
August 30, 201510 yr I think he meant that for AHFOD to be a big success or even get to number one this fall it will have to be a poppy record. Makes sense to me. Of course exceptions are possible but that's a pretty solid argument, especially given the musical climate at the minute and the expected competition. I think the hatred of pop comes from the fact that this is a fan forum for a band who's (in general opinion) downward spiral has coincided with their increasing use of chart-pop style music. I'm with them tbh. Coldplay can do so much more than chart music and that's why, in this context, I resent it. It seems to me after Viva they could have carried on being truly experimental, writing differently, continuing Viva's promise of better lyrics, adding new styles and instruments. That album should have been the genesis of a new, experimental Coldplay. They could have expanded on the shoegaze of Chinese Sleep Chant, the heaviness of Glass of Water, the classical of Postcards From Far Away. Instead they wrote simple, sing-a-long pop tunes and dressed them up in colourful Eno production. Not saying that's intrinsically a bad thing but it feels like a lack of ambition. In fact I think that sums up the feeling towards their new, chart-pop style - not inherently bad, but something of a let down. Well said!
August 30, 201510 yr I don't think they've ever once been this quiet before... But I have no doubt... One day the songs will come out
