Worst Coldplay Songs Ever!

Featured Replies

Re: #1

I dislike any song that depresses me. I tend to like Viva la Vida, yellow, Miracles, POC, SFOS and Magic the best. To be honest I haven't heard all of Coldplay's songs (only a handful). Because I don't usually buy albums anymore :P I like Every Teardrop but there's something strangely melancholy about it. When I first heard it, thought it was done by Underworld. :P The video for True Love is charming.

Album tracks, even other Coldplay songs I find boring are better than these: Princess Of China Hymn For The Weekend My Universe Artists I don't want mixed with Coldplay and soundsc

Some of the choices on here are just mind boggling. Trouble? A Whisper? Shiver??! All that when all the songs below are in existence?

Their worst songs are:

Miracles - seriously? Why is this not on people's list? Utterly atrocious and not worthy of a UK regional home insurance advert. Plastic and completely inauthentic.

Another's Arms - there's a good song in there....somewhere, probably buried under the awful vocal melody and lyrics.

Princess of China. Excellent innovative production but dodgy lyrics alongside insufferable wailing from Chris and Rihanna, the latter who's guest appearance adds sweet fuck all other than a few more dollar signs to go spinning round Chris Martin's eyeballs. The 'wooaaaaahhhs' are needless from the start and by the end take a song with potential and a good production and exhaust it beyond death...to the point where it has become maggot infested and smells. You almost feel like they're deliberately trying to piss people off.

UFO: This is...just pointless. I have nothing else to say on this completely forgettable track.

True Love Liked it at first, then realised it was utter gash! Again destroyed by some awful lyrics and a melody that is uninspired and forced. 'Call it trueeeee, call it trueeee.....' stop it Chris. Just stop it. What are you trying to do? Desecrate the beauty of The Scientist?

Well those are my choices. And all songs from the last two albums, plus one horrid soundtrack. Not an encouraging trend. What makes it worse is that genuinely excellent songs like Ghost Story, All Your Friends and Moving to Mars were left to swivel as b sides in favour of some of that cack.

@wisna:Every teardrop Is a waterfall is not such a bad song,i'm sure there are much worse songs...

just in my opinion, sorry :-)

@howyousawtheworld:considering miracles was a soundtrack,i dnt think it did too badly. i also thnk that you got bored of some of d songs[case in point, true love]. i dnt thnk it counts to include a once loved song on the list. poc? im tired of defending it. i thnk the real grouse is with the choice of rihanna than with the song itself. poc rocks imho...

Even if it didn't have Rihanna on vocals it would still only be okay, It's sub par lyrics, eardrum popping synth sounds and strange song structure have all been discussed. Comparatively it's definitely the worst on Mylo Xyloto, ETIAW and Paradise are way better even despite the criticisms we may have for them. Us against the world and Hurts like Heaven are immensely superior Mylo tracks so I don't know why you would feel the need to defend it so much anyway.

To me, it just doesn't have that signature Coldplay feel. And yes part of that stems from Rihanna but I think the majority of criticism is fair. But, of course this is just my opinion. If you like the song more power to you, It's just not this Oldplayer's cup of tea ;)

@the adversary: if it isn't too much work, would you please oblige me with your top 10 coldplay tracks,as well as your best album?

No problem, I think like most posters here it's hard to pick a top 10 and it fluctuates a bit depending what mood I happen to be in (It's very difficult to pick 10, I tried 15 in another thread and struggled:P) But off the top of my head:

1: Violet Hill

2: Politik

3: Don't Panic

4: Clocks

5: In My Place

6: Low

7: Everything's not lost

8: Warning Sign

9: Trouble

10: Yellow

As for my favorite album, again it depends a lot on what mood I'm in. It shifts from AROBTTH to Parachutes (I view them as two sides of a coin really). I'd be interested in seeing your top 10 and favorite album also :)

@the adversary:you are obviously older than me... I reckon that you are in your 30's or early 40's judging by your songs which are from the earlier albums.

I'm in my mid 20's which may influence my choice of songs. Also,a top 10 is kind of hard,i'm more of a top 30 person...however 10 songs that will definitely make my list are below...

Here goes...

-Amsterdam

-A Message

-Christmas Lights

-Speed Of Sound

-Lovers In Japan

-Ink

-Yes

-Princess Of China

-I Ran Away

-Glass Of Water

My best album is X&Y by a mile, though I deliberately left out most of my better liked songs and tried a more wholistic approach to the list....

I have no idea about the Adversary's age but just wanted to point out that young people (with excellent tastes :D) can also love earlier songs...I'm 22 and love everything from the earliest EPs up to VLV..;)

Same here, except I love everything from Ode to Deodorant up to Miracles [emoji23]

I'm 14 btw

The only thing that's lacking here is someone saying that Politik sucks!!!!

If there's one thing I'm absolutely certain about, it's that everyone loves Politik

And if there's someone who doesn't, welllllll . . . :smash:

A Spell A Rebel Yell. I have hated some other songs b4 but I got used to them. But I could never get into the song.

I actually loved A Spell A Rebel Yell since the first listen. That one synth melody is probably what I like most about the song. Lyrics aren't bad either. Viva b-sides are so good...

@i ran away:you may be right, but i'm willing to bet that the adversary is not in his 20's,maybe 42(no pun intended)?

A Spell A Rebel Yell is fresh in it's experimentation and quite intense and psychedelic. Mark my words, if Coldplay made an album in that experimental vein similar to this and Chinese Sleep Chant there's no doubt it would be the best received Coldplay album since Viva. They need to get back to this. Only heard such expansion and ambition in one one song during the last album with Midnight, the best song they've done over the last two albums. They're clearly brilliant at being innovative and different yet we only see glimpses of it here and there. Why they can't make that leap into a full album of such material is anyone's guess. Lack of confidence? Lack of ambition? Obsessing over commercial sounds rather than artistic sounds? A full album will only satisfy and it depresses me that the next album will most likely contain zilch ambition or experimentation.

They are the only band in the world who can command such a popular platform. U2 can't even do it anymore on a new music/new album front so it's their right and responsibility to guide those listeners and take them down a strange, mysterious and intriguing road. They've gained many new and young fans - treat these guys to something they wouldn't normally here on the charts.

Continuing to pander to mainstream sensibilities, as they will probably do so with AHFOD, is utterly redundant of all purpose and relevance.

I say to Coldplay - LEAD YOUR FANS, DON'T BE LED BY THEM! YOU'VE GOT THE TALENT, VISION AND THE SKILL TO DO SOMETHING GREAT - USE IT!
