I ran away
@i ran away: violet hill? really?? Read the post again, I didn't say I dislike Violet Hill or any of the named songs. I just said they are a succession of society-critical songs imho ! :)
Captain Crieff
Politik wow, that combination of letters is not allowed as an answer to this question! :shocked2: I'm kidding, it's your opinion of course but daaamn it's an unpopular one! EDIT: nevermind, I should really learn how to read sorry :p
Sheikwonder
@ov3la: I absolutely love 42! The song shares similar attributes with Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" in the sense that it has no chorus... The song combines 3 different parts and then does a full circle by returning to the 1st verse in the end... "Those who are dead are not dead, they're just living in my head oo..ooh"
ov3la
So if you don't dislike any Coldplay song presently, was there ever a time you disliked a Coldplay track that you eventually came to like? Up in flames. It was the first time they used a drum pad for a song and it was unusual at first, now it's one of my favorites songs on MX.
The Adversary
So if you don't dislike any Coldplay song presently, was there ever a time you disliked a Coldplay track that you eventually came to like? Really hated ASFOS when it was first released. Must say it has grown on me now! Bit of a guilty pleasure so to speak.
WeddingDom
My least favorite Coldplay songs: 5. Moses: I'm not into it, and I dislike the chorus. 4. Murder: Please murder me. 3. Don't Let It Break Your Heart: It tries too much and accomplishes so little. 2. U.F.O.: Plain boring, I'd rather get abducted by a real ufo. 1. Paradise: I can't stand it, I CANT I HATE THE PARA PARA PARADISE I HATE THE WHOOOH'S sorry it's just not for me. Dishonorable mentions: High Speed, Yes, O, All Your Friends, X&Y, Amsterdam, Ode to Deodorant.
Sheikwonder
@I ran away:I never knew Violet Hill was society-themed,when i heard "if you love me won't you let me know",i just assumed it was a love song, tnx for enlightening me. I ran away
All right, I learned that mentioning songs I like in a thread about songs you dislike can generate confusion^^ ov3la - thanks for reminding me. UP IN FLAMES - I really hate that "song" and always skip it !

You should read the lyrics of Violet Hill, theyre really interesting and it is a kind of anti-war song (also touches on religion and war "priests clutched on to bibles, hollowed out to fit their rifles") etc.
Sheikwonder
@WeddingDom: i feel like entering your mind and performing "inception" on you... lennyrott1
It totally blows my mind that some folks dislike my favourite Coldplay songs haha! But that is a selfish thing to say :) We all have different tastes: 5.Things I Don't Understand-A lazy verse, utterly cheesy. Terrible lyrics. Good thing it is a B-side. Like the guitar and bass though.... 4. In My Place- Simply think this song is boring britpop. Only track on album that I think is forgettable. 3. True Love- Just not my taste. The falsetto, the beat, the structure, the chords. All of it. Just not my cup of tea. 2. A Sky Full of Stars- Little explanation needed here. A generic track wherein Guy, Jonny, and Will sound like an uninspired studio band more than ever, except for... 1. Up In Flames- utterly boring. Piano is dull, falsetto is annoying, drumbeat overbearing and bland. A filler. No wonder it was the last song recorded for MX. Unlike the above mentioned tracks, there is not one redeeming quality to this song.

alisbe
The ones I dislike are A Spell A Rebel Yell (I always skip it) Daylight (I can listen to it but I don't like the way Chris sings on it, it's kind of boring for me) Twisted logic (it's good but there's something that doesn't quite fit in the song)
ColdplayingfromKansas
These probably won't be in any particular order, but: Up In Flames - So boring, so cheesy, can't stand it. Honestly one of the few Coldplay songs that has no redeeming qualities Princess of China - The lyrics . . . they're so bad I just can't fathom how this made it onto the album. Plus Rihanna, ugh no. The live version with Jonny on the guitar is okayish though. Ink - Suffers from the same problem as Up In Flames True Love - Jonny's riff is cool, otherwise boring Paradise - This would honestly be a fine song if it weren't for the para-para-paradise part Honorable mentions: Pour Me (not sure what it is about this one, just rubs me the wrong way I suppose), Green Eyes (I know, I know)
beastwars
1) A Sky Full Of Stars 2) Princess Of China 3) Viva La Vida 4) Charlie Brown 5) True Love 6) MMIX/ETIAW 7) Paradise 8) In My Place 9) Miracles 10) A Message

beastwars
OMG, people who hate Things I don't Understand (love this one !), In my Place and Viva La Vida ?! :o I explain: In My Place is too repetitive and forgettable, Viva La Vida is the song that started their musical decline, it's too pompous and overrated IMO Things I Don't Understand is good :D
The Adversary
In My Place is getting a shocking amount of mentions! :inquisitive:
beastwars
@batman,if you think "Reign of love" is bad,how about "Chinese sleep chant"? Chinese Sleep Chant is one of the best songs they ever made, with Jonny trying to be Kevin Shields :D
Xylobryte7
A Whisper, always skip that song, its not good at all.
getithom
10) A Message What? It's really unpopular opinion, but I cannot stand most of X&Y's B-sides. And it's funny because X&Y is my favorite Coldplay album. Gravity is pretty okay, but Things I Don't Understand and Proof just bore me to tears. How You See The World is great, though. And add Atlas (genuinely hate it), Up In Flames and Charlie Brown to the list too. Princess of China isn't great, but it's good. I would bet that if it didn't have Rihanna, the reception would be much more positive. I actually find myself listening to the instrumental more because I fuckin' love the music itself. I remember thinking how great it sounded when it was Chris-only at the Rock Im premiere. Just all around very well crafted.
theprospekt
A Whisper, always skip that song, its not good at all. I love A Whisper. Also it's very important in the context of the album: "Night turns to day And I still have these questions Bridges will break Should I go forwards or backwards? Night turns to day And I still get no answers" Beautiful lyrics I think. [smoke is rising from the houses]
