i think i'll buy it but the albums are very expensive here in Turkey it's about $20 but i'm gonna buy it just because it's Keane;)

Yeah i also got it yesterday, and i have many oppinions about it.

 

Generally I like it. I think some of their choices, arangements and instrumentations are fantastic. I like the variety of instruments used as well. Out of the norm ..

 

I very much like the instrumental "Under the iron sea" its very "artsy" if you will.

 

There are a couple tracks which are good, but just a bit blah, kind of just standard keane, and not very adventureous. That would be my main criticism. "Used to be a lovely boy" would have been a great substitute for one of these songs. I think "Nothing In My Way" should have been substituded for this one.

 

 

My favorites are:

 

1. Atlantic

2. Frog Prince

3. Broken Toy

4. Crystall Ball

5. A Bad Dream

 

but like i said, generally a good album.

I like it. Different from Hopes and Fears but nice....

heh, i thought i posted it. whoops:) well it looks like somene did, but if needed i can post it. I like their last cd a lot more but there are some real nice songs on here. I will be buying this one to support them. I agree that Nothing in my way is pretty standard sounding Keane, but I really liked it when they were playing it live and I'm glad they included it. :) I saw a little of their video on VH1 recently, I think it's for Is it Any Wonder? no sure if i like that choice, but it is a nice song. Cool opening riff:)

Confession time- I don't like Keane. I don't want to go into details because I can see why other people like them and I respect that, but I REALLY don't like Keane for the most part.

 

So imagine my shock when I liked the song Atlantic enough to give the new album a listen and I actually really liked about half of it. Perhaps even enough to get the album eventually. If that's not proof that there are differences between this cd and the last, I don't know what would prove it. The newfound darker elements to some of the songs really suit them.

 

The title track is probably my favorite... really beautiful. I can see myself on the shore looking out to sea on a grey cloudy day with a storm coming every time I hear it. Atlantic is riveting. I like Is It Any Wonder the keyboard effects are kind of neat, and I love the rollercoaster video for it. Bad Dream and Nothing In My Way are my two other favorites, although I have trouble telling them apart.

i gave a 7 after the first listening...i think i give a strong 8 now. good album, though i can hear some similarities between Hopes And Fears and UTIS.and also i can't stand some tracks...

 

Crystal Ball is so fucking awful

but

Atlantic, A Bad Dream and Try Again are definitely ones of their best tunes

After listening the album a few times, now i can say that i like it.This is beter than Hopes and Fears. My favorites are Atlantic, IIAW, Nothing In My Way and Bad Dream. I don't like Crystal Ball :\ and i also expected an incredible and emotional song like SOWK but there isn't. But generally i like the new album.

I LOVE Crystal Ball! Love the fairytale imagery in it. It's said to be the next single.. Looking forward to the video if that's the case! :D

 

Someone said that the least immediate moments on this album are the most rewarding and that seems true. I didn't like Leaving So Soon? and Broken Toy on first listen (thought they were dull) but now I love them. Especially Leaving So Soon, I really relate to the lyrics. The album is great but I'm yet to like certain songs like Hamburg Song (zzzZZZzzz), Put It Behind You and The Frog Prince. So far so good with the rest though.

A Keane Request for the Software Geniuses

 

Would someone have the software and the know-how to splice the outro of The Iron Sea to the end of Atlantic, so that it sounds like the way the Atlantic video ended?

 

I think a lot of people here who became used to the video version would appreciate a version in such great sound quality. Thanks a ton! :)

well yeah , you're right actually...hmmm, don't know...usually bands release "an edited, single version" of a song, if it's a single. but Atlantic was only a download video single, so i'm not sure there's a better quality version

I'm up for trying it just to see if I can, but I wouldn't count on me ever finishing it...

I was kind of flip-flopping on downloading it, but I gave in in the end. I'm going to see them on the 27th and the CD doesn't come out here in the US until the 20th. I need time to memorize the album! I'll still definitely buy it once it's released here.

 

Anyway, after listening it to a few times, I'm really liking it. From everything that was said about it, I was expecting something entirely different from Hopes and Fears, but that's not the case. I still hear a lot of the first album among all the new stuff. Certainly, this album is a lot more complex. Some of the songs on H&F had one piano line. You can hear at least three in some of the songs here.

 

Standouts right now for me are Is It Any Wonder, Nothing in My Way, and The Frog Prince. I also don't think Crystal Ball is as bad as some people to think (granted, the chorus is a bit cliched, but the verses are great). I don't think there's really a BAD track on this album. Hamburg Song and Broken Toy are lacking, in my opinion, when put up against some of the other songs, but they're still decent.
