Counterpunch.org The importance of any given artist is dependent on only one thing. You can chart their lasting effects, the people they influenced or the new techniques they pioneered, but when you get down to it all that matters is how much they care. Great artists give everything they have as honestly as possible at every show and every recording. That’s where Coldplay's newest record Viva La Vida falls short; it doesn’t sound like they give a shit. Since their breakthrough album Parachutes in 2000, Coldplay has been making music that sounds big, and Viva La Vida sounds huge. The album seems like a cohesive work because of the epic feeling Brain Eno’s production …

the brown one that says "VIVA LA VIDA" on the front that I got at their concert. So anyway, this guy in my anatomy class says "That shirt should say 'If I Could Fly'"! So I told him that Joe Satriani is a cocksucker and that this whole ordeal's a publicity stunt. It was a wonderful wonderful burn! :laugh3:

  11. When the going gets tough, Coldplay get going - their separate ways... Fortunately, the UK's biggest rock band always manage to kiss and make up. Until their next big bust-up, that is. Frontman Chris Martin tells us that he and the other three members of Coldplay have parted company a whopping SIX times. The most recent split was just last week after it emerged they were being sued by American guitarist Joe Satriani. Happily, the fab four - who are currently on the London leg of their incredible UK tour - can't stay away from one another for long. Chatting to us backstage ahead of their stomping gig at London's O2 Arena, Chris admitted: "We have split up on this tou…

  13. on the entertainment weekly website there is a list "10 Best CDs of 2008: Leah Greenblatt's Picks" and coldplay's Viva la Vida is number 6! it says "6. VIVA LA VIDA Coldplay Go ahead, surrender. To the swelling strings, the sweeping piano runs, the sheer tsunami of feelings emanating from Chris Martin and his not-so-merry men. While detractors have long dismissed the band as croony Radiohead-come-latelies, this magisterial beauty, co-produced by Brian Eno, finally forges a singular identity. Viva is perhaps their greatest achievement yet: a sumptuous, fearlessly grand sonic experiment." http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20162677_20164091_20247308_4,00.html

I don't know if many people have noticed this, but the music video version sounds kind of, "antique" if you will, or like it's playing on an old record player and it sounds really cool, kind of like the iphone commercial. Anybody have the mp3?

There are some Coldplay songs that don't have the song title mentioned in the song. So, what would you name these songs, considering the actual lyrics in the songs? If you think of more songs than I mentioned, feel free to add them! Amsterdam - "Time is on Your Side" 42 - "Living in my Head" Twisted Logic - "Backwards and Forwards" The Scientist - "Back to the Start" I'm sure I've missed a few, but I have to go!! :P

  18. Eyes on the prize ... Gordon Smart presents Coldplay with their award COLDPLAY accepted my 2008 Bizarre Awards Best Rock gong — and immediately let the cat out of the bag by showing it to fans. I handed it to CHRIS MARTIN, GUY BERRYMAN, JONNY BUCKLAND and WILL CHAMPION just before their brilliant O2 show on Tuesday. Chris paraded the award on stage, where comic actor SIMON PEGG joined the the boys on harmonica. Find out the rest of the Bizarre Awards winners where you were supposed to hear them ALL first — in this column over Christmas. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/article2048538.ece

  19. Right!!!! Show of hands please if you guys think that this is SO COOL!!! What a humble guy Chris is!!!!! This just shows that he hasnt got his head so far stuck up his ass that he cant even use the Underground anymore, even to his own gigs!!!! Also, it shows that in some way he is doing his bit for the environment!! Also, he thought, "why bother with a limo, when I can catch a tube which will probably get me to the 02 far quicker than using a limo which will be constantly stuck in traffic"!!! But, more than likely he was just being his normal ego-less self and being just like any other normal person!!!!!:):):)

Bizarre Coldplay dreams.... I had a dream last night that Chris Martin came around my old house with a friend of my mums................... He come round for Sunday Dinner and was watching the telly... I remember trying to pluck up the courage to ask him if I could tell the message board... if I announce he was with me... and to possibly if he would come and post on the board and let me take a picture to prove... it... but I never had the guts, then the dream ended. I also had a dream a few weeks ago, that they only stayed on stage for 45 minutes when they did their new york show... I remember Camille telling the board how dissapoited she was.... thankfully …

I was just reading a review about a June 2003 concert, at the Hollywood Bowl. The reviewer said they played an unnamed song that they had just written that day.Anyone have any idea what song it could be?? Also in reading a bunch of old reviews, even then everyone complained that the concerts are only 90 min.
