I don't think there will be another album this year. Theyll probably just announce a world tour in the third week of may. As for Coldplay recording songs, I think theyll just be B-sides. The theme so far with this release is giving things for free. We have the free songs, the free concerts. I think there will be more songs given away this summer. Probably B-sides. Afterall most people download the B-sides anyway.

I actually don't know what to make of all this news.

 

I think we can be certain of the new single on May 21st. The rest is all speculation, but I find that the dual album theory is very sound. I mean, 'Death and All His Friends" is missing from the artwork.

I have a strong feeling that this has something to do with the song Postcards From Far Away. I think this might be the second of the two “top tier” songs that prospekt told us they had planned for independent release. The first being the Violet Hill give away before they decided to keep it on the album as well. Postcards has shown up in too many places (the “postcard” function on the mock web pages, the Google toolbar screen caps, the article in rolling stone) not to be something special. While I don’t see Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends being a two part double album, I do think that we are at least going to get a companion EP. This may have been the plan for some time now and the reason why tracks like Famous Old Painters and Postcards itself did not make the album. This is, of course, all speculation on my part.

I am utterly exhuasted with all of this news. It's only 3:30 in NY. where are my children?

i just....i don't know what to do with myself. if this is *basically* a double album, then i wholeheartedly apologize to whoever suggested this possiblility like a month ago. i cannot BELIEVE that this is what's happening.

I still believe that the cover art is just for the first half, and we'll have the Death bit on a seperate EP or something :P

man this is awesome news!!It looks like we are going to get to hear most if not all the tracks we know about some how!! To me it seems like the band have been more excited about this album than any other.So i was thinking even though they wanted a short album with 10 tracks wouldnt they want us to hear as many songs as we could or releasing as many as they could seeing as how excited and confident they feel about their new music.Looks like we get more now!!Cant wait!!

if the double-album theory is correct, then i wonder if they'll be coming out on the same day? the suggestions before concerning the album's packaging ("gatefold edition" and all that stuff) makes me think there will be two CDs in there, with two different artworks or something, but the fact that this article says they're recording NOW makes me think that we won't be getting this DAAHF part straight away. it might be much later in the year, knowing how slow they work. but that's FINE with me...two coldplay albums in ONE YEAR?!?!

 

but the b-side/free giveaway theory is also a good one...i just feel like i need to know what's going on NOW. frankly, i want the whole double-album thing to happen much more, because that sounds more revolutionary and like it'll have more of a "huge global reach," but whatever means more new music is GREAT, and that sounds like what this is! :dance:

 

let's just hope if it's a double album thingy, the second part is released in june or august. i won't have the time to pay attention to it in july.

AGHHHHH new single, double(ish) album........i half expect them to say that they're going to knock on every coldplayer's door and give out free hugs. because really, that's the only thing that they could do to make me happier right now.

I've had the double-album hunch for awhile now, ever since they released the album title at least. With the way the news has been released, two albums might not be such a stretch.

 

If the first is called "Viva La Vida", the it would make sense why the website said "Viva La Vida OR Death and All His Friends", because they weren't sure which one would come first :-P

I suppose it might be some kind of special broadcasting of the free concerts or at least one of them, maybe in cinemas all over the world with the chance to pruchase it on DVD afterwards. earlyer in the year i heard that emi wanted to try that with some of their bands e.g. coldplay. well, dunno, might also be a crappy theory. but i like the double-album one, though i find it quite unrealistic because it woult be to awesome to be true^^

maybe Viva La Vida are all the tracks they wanted to use for the album (the 'living ones'), and Death and All His Friends are the ones they decided not to use ('dead tracks'), but decided to give them to us anyways.....and maybe they wanted to see what we thought of both, seeing if their decisions were the right ones..

That's what I thought of immediately when I read the article.

I think we shouldn't get too excited - yet. We're obviously getting a new song or a big surprise nonetheless on May 21.

I don't think we're in for a double album; first of all we have the tracklisting, so they won't change that. :)

Second, we will be getting a lot of b-sides I think, which is really great, as I'm really looking forward to hearing Poppy Fields, Prospekt's March, etc.

 

I think that the global surprise will be that Coldplay are literally expanding; maybe it could mean the biggest world tour ever or something like that..I bet there's no one who wouldn't like to have Coldplay playing in their town!:D

 

Even if I'm wrong in everything written above; it's going to be a brilliant Coldplay summer!;)

you people are getting carried away there will be no 2 cds "viva la vida or death and all his freinds " is one cd !!! the actuaclly song death and all his friends is in the :viva la vida cd! so that can be also coldplay just said there recording more songs that just means they got more songs remeber xy had 40 songs ! only 13 made the cut for the album !!

So the question is, when they say 'eventually see the light of day', are they talking about the same material that will supposedly be released "alongside" the album?

 

Also, are the two different coloured sentences describing the same unreleased material, or two different sets of songs?

Maybe Coldplay will be playing at Mandela's 90th birthday concert in Hyde Park on June 27th? That will be on TV and i'm sure people from all over the world will be watching that. Just a thought....
