I have to say Australia look an awful awful side.
I had the unfortunate pleasure of watching them online getting beat 3-1 by the US in a friendly last week!
I luff Schweinsteiger. The German look very dangerous and are all so young.
I had him in my fantasy side, if I knew he was playing so deep in front of the defence I wouldn't have bothered. Ain't gonna score me any goals playing there!

Schweini

Sorry ... fangirl speaking. :disappointed:

*does a little dance*

:nice:

*trööt trööt*

The truth is that if refereeing was awful, australia's performance was worse. In addition Germany played like a really powerful team.

i just hope germany beat serbia and ghana just as badly. australia has beaten ghana convincingly the last 2 times we've played them. serbia will be tough to crack.

Aww poor aussies. How the hell does Germany always manage to peform flawlessly? I guess it's their steel mind because this time they only have 2 stars and it's a really young team.

They are actually my favs ( of course not taking into account Mexico) after Brazil, Spain and England

yeah, I only caught a cumulative fifteen minutes of the game, as I was at work during the game, but the Germans have been the first to really impress me with their play, gorgeous stuff. Even though I haven't seen Spain, Brazil or Netherlands yet, my doubts about their chances after losing Ballack etc. are completely gone.

YOU DIDN'T GET TO HEAVEN, BUT YOU MADE IT KLOSE ! :)

Though being german I was on the Socceroos side and supported them.

Sure it was nice when my team scored the goals and I cheered as well, but I just felt so very sorry for the Socceroos.

The referee's decision to pull a red card was so not justified and there were several times when he refereed in Germany's favour.

^^

thanks for the support. but we lost the game before it even started. our managers decision to not play any genuine strikers (we've only brought across 1 to SA) and putting cahill in a strikers position. i dont know what he is trying to do.

Right, you are. I found it so very nice with a match with a lot of goals as the other matches ended 0-0, 0-1 or 1-1.

So I think that GERMANY with its young and powerful team will experience a good tournament and have some good years ahead.

But it is too early to think of Germany in the semi-final and maybe even the final. Often good teams entertaining the audience / attendance with many goals at the beginning of a tournament have one bad match when it matters meaning that they are out of the tournament. And teams just making it to the all-important matches suddenly "wake up" and end up in the final often also winning the tournament.

I don't think Cole didn't anything wrong defensively. It's just that he didn't get forward as much as usual.

As for Lennon and Wright-Phillips, their crossing was very poor. Heskey had a good game apart from the chance he fluffed. Gerrard got the goal.

The rest were pretty disappointing.

Milner was awful and "sicknote" King didn't last very long. Same old story.:(

Maybe a bit harsh on Ashley Cole but they severely underperformed against the USA. And yeah, I think Milner blew his chance. Capello will have to tactically get it spot on this tournament but when he does they can beat anyone.

Well done Germany!! The Aussies deserved that

What a brilliant performance!

Germany was sooo good! Well deserved win! :D I really didn't expect that due to the fact that 8 of the players were at the age of 25 or below. All Bundesliga teams did an amazing job regarding youth work during the last couple of years. Thomas Müller = God! :)

The red card was way too hard though. I'm a bit sorry for "Tiny Tim" and the Aussies. :(

By the way, everyone in New Zealand supported Germany! :D

Good old Transtasman rivalry! :wacky:

because they left us without world cup in 2006

but we left them without it in 2002

The German's are a good team and as ever are mentally up for tournaments but I think they will get outclassed by better teams later on in the tournament. For a start let's just say if England finished 2nd in their group they wouldn't want them in the last 16. In fact I really don't think they'd want the USA either because they are as shown more than capable of handling the big sides and really could provide one hell of a stern test.

I think Paraguay could hold Italy to at least a draw.

Can't wait here come the Oranje army, Hup Holland Hup!

Yes, but they still deserved it :P But I think the red card to Cahill was totally unfair!
