The 7th Mixtape Exchange (1ST POST UPDATE)

Featured Replies

All right just finished listening, pleasurable experience. Heres my review.

Track 1- BROKEN BELLS!!! I love them, the high road. These guys shoulda got Best new artist. Great song great choice. Upbeat song with some cool sounds. If you don’t got them def reccomend downloading.

Track 2- This one’s a bit depressing to tell the truth. But beautiful acoustic sound sounds like hes in a dark alley and talking about loosing a loved one it seems. Nice raspy voice contrasted by a woman towards the end. Some nice violin-ish sounds that remind me of some In Rainbows songs but everything that sounds good reminds me of Radiohead. Nice song.

Track 3- Another acoustic sung. Nice little guitar riff played over in the song. Guy has a unique voice and the lyrics are nice. “Keep your head above water, but don’t forget to breath. Song gets more uptempo towards the end . Relaxing and calm.

Track 4- Ahh this is a great one. Great band. Slow electric riff with some hauting ohhh ahhhs lol. breaks into a kick ass rock song . This guys got a great voice that doesn’t get old like some people high pitched ya know. The ooo’s really give you chills though if you imagine being there at a concert or something. This songs like a real emotional, memory driven balled, a lot of tempo change so its great even after a couple of listens. A great listen!

Track 5- A lot of love songs on this mixtape. This ones nice with a really beautiful tropical island relaxing keys. Real relaxing and daydreamy. Makes you forget about your problems, a head bopper. I really like the lyrics and the piano is just great. “ I wish I could follow you to the shores of freedom.” My favorite so far!

Track 6- To be honest don’t like this one. Sounds like its from a movie, I can see how someone would like it but its too plastic to me. Like a suspenseful, climax point song of a movie with some nice classical instruments so if youre into that this one’s for you.

Track 7- Starts off nice with a complex instrumental of what sounds like some Spanish inspired acoustic with a slow steady tempo. Seems very restaurant-background. The guitar seems to be telling a story. But then singing kicks in and the guys voice is very undesirable to be honest. It seems like someones attempt to make the best song ever, like one with a lot of change and its starts out slow then changes a lot and all that but it doesn’t work, at least not for me. Don’t mean to bash the song, but it kinda breaks out into an illuminati chant heavy thing which I just don’t like.

Track 8- Heavy accent on this guy. I really like it it sounds a bit like “Redemption Song” turned British lol. It has the same progression and everything. As satriani is to Viva la Vida this is to Redemption Song lol. Nice though really cool.

Track 9- Sounds like Mumford and Sons, another acoustic yet. Nice song though, I really like his voice, uppp heard the banjo now im sure its M&S. Jumping up and down at festival time. Chanting is goosebumping I gave you ALLLLLL. If your mad this is a good song to let off some steam.

Track 10- getting kinda lazy the rest of the reviews are gonna be short. Nice voice. Acoustic with some nice sounds. Too slow though.

Track 11- This ones a bit funky. Kind of like a rebellious angry slow song if that’s possible. Nice. The guys voice sounds familiar. Nice little diddy.

Track 12- Kind of generic modern rock-ish. Forgettable? Sorry but not my cup of Chai Tea. Prolly sounds good in an arena but I can find myself listening to it.

Track 13- Yes this ones cool. Sounds like Kid A with all these alien sounds Im in Nevada looking up at the night sky and thinking about my life so far and it’s the eve of something monumental about to happen. This is the picture I I paint with this one. Really nice lyrics aren’t necessary for this you can just imagine something amazing and it fits right in. But unfortunately there are some lyrics that take away from it. Overall, a nice jam. I can see Thom Yorke spazing to this.

Track 14- Movie sounding, definitely from a movie actually. SUSPENSE. Like preparing for a battle and you can cut the tension with a knife but greatness lies ahead. The story of someones life put into a song. Way better than the other movie type song. Beautiful.

Track 15- Appropriate, this ones emotional. Another movie-esque. But a solemn representation of peace and finality no worries on this song. The mixtape blended well and from start to end its kind of like a love story of coming and going, I don’t know if this was done purposely. Drums on hear kick ass. But then….ugh. Too loud for a bit, takes away a bit from a great song otherwise. I wonder what this would sound like high? Ends nicely, sounding like Deadmau5.

So that’s that. A very nice mixtape which must have took a lot of effort. Im very thankful for whoever made this and put in their time because it was very fun to listen to. Sorry if you guys don’t feel the abstract descriptions but music does that to me sometimes.

That was mine!

Tape: http://www.filedropper.com/mixtape_2

Tracklisting:

1. Broken Bells - The High Road

2. Tom McRae - My Vampire Heart

You're absolutely right that it's depressed/depressing, but this is what this British singer-songwriter does best. He's quite funny and sarcastic during his concerts and he plays amazingly well live.

3. Alexi Murdoch - Breathe

4. Band of Horses - The Funeral

5. Joseph Arthur - Honey and the Moon

6. BBC National Orchestra of Wales & Murray Gold - I Am The Doctor

(from the soundtrack of Doctor Who, the latest season ;) )

7. Opeth - To Bid You Farewell

I can see how you could dislike the drama here, and generally Opeth does melodic metal :P

8. Billy Bragg - Days Like These

Protest song, of course. What Billy Bragg does.

9. Mumford & Sons - I Gave You All

10. Chris Pureka - Landlocked

11. I Am Kloot - Storm Warning

At concerts, I Am Kloot's John Bramwell always announces a new song like this: "This song is about drinking.... and disaster." or "...birds.... and disaster". Brilliantly ugly guy, lovely songwriting!

12. A Day to Remember - If It Means A Lot To You

I actually wanted to put one of their less 'forgettable' songs on here but figured as they usually do post-hardcore/pop that might be too abrasive :)

13. Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere But Not Here

In my opinion Porcupine Tree's best song. Supposedly about a car accident.

14. Alexandre Desplat - Obliviate

From the first scene of Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows, part 1, where Hermoine erases herself from her parents' memory.

15. Oceansize - Ornament / The Last Wrongs

It's sort of two songs in one and epic live. I don't like the loud bit either.

It’s that time again! For the Coldplaying Mixtape exchange! The past times it’s been run by Eglantine, Redgirl76, Kite (Dargarius), and The Escapist.

It’s super simple to participate and ubers fun! The basic idea is that everyone who wants to gets together a list of songs that they enjoy and that they think others may not be familiar with, but will like, or I dunno, a bunch of your faves, put them on a mixtape prepared for another Cper. Everyone on Coldplaying loves discovering new music and this is a fun way to do just that!

These rules were copied off the 6th mixtape exchange thread and made by Redgirl76 :D

Rules:

1. Sign up saying you want to participate. post on thread or send me a PM.

2. When the deadline for signing up is over, you'll get a PM from me giving you the name of another participant in the Exchange. You will be making a mix for this person, whoever they may be.

3. You mustn't reveal who you are making the mix for.

4. Make your mix-tape (average length is around 50-70 minutes) and delete the info for each song.

5. Upload the mix-tape to something like rapidshare, mega upload, mediafire, send space, etc... and send me the link and a tracklisting. I will then send it to person assigned to you, keeping your identity a secret of course!

- if you’re able to, and this makes it way simpler for everyone, put your music files in a .zip or .rar. You can download winrar (64bit / 32bit) to do this

6. When you receive a mix-tape, listen to it, write a review and post it in this thread.

7. The person who made the mix-tape will then post the track-list and the link so everybody can download it. Simple as that.

8. At the end, I will link all the tapes, tracklistings and reviews to the first page so everyone can download them.

_________

Here are the deadlines:

Sign up closes FRIDAY, DECEMBER 3RD AT MIDNIGHT (GMT -6)

Submit your mixtape by MONDAY DECEMBER 13th AT 4:00PM (GMT -6)

The mixtapes we’ll be passed out that same evening ASAP!

PLEASE HAVE YOUR REVIEWS IN AS SOON AS YOU CAN!

_______

We’ve had some inconveniences in the past with people who signed up but then didn’t make a mixtape or didn’t give a review. So PLEASE, IF YOU THINK YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO GO THROUGH WITH THIS DON’T WASTE OUR TIME. It’s really annoying and I’d hate for some people to not receive a mixtape or not get theirs reviewed. :nice:

There’s also a new restriction:

You must have at least 150 posts* in the forum to be able to participate, I will check to see if it’s legit :)

*thanks to pherdlehuse for the suggestion

The list of who's posted what is out of date, might be handy to update?

The list of who's posted what is out of date, might be handy to update?

this.

Now I can discover more songs from these artists

Ce fut un plaisir, merci encore !

Marie

Thank you for the explanation Since the mixtape had a specific title, I thought there surely is a specific meaning behind it and the songs it contains! And sorry to read you're strongly disappointed by an artist you love I hope it will get better with the time!

I'm sure it will, thanks :)

Maybe it's also because I use a PC and Windows Media Player to listen to the tracks!?!

That might have been the reason indeed as I believe the WMP often uses the internet to retag mp3s.

Hey:

My fav album (pop rock) is ''[sic!]'' (title of the track & the album) - 2001.

They started with a now ultra famous one called ''Fire'' where you can find their most appreciated songs (Zazdrość, Teksański, Moja i Twoja Nadzieja) but you have to know they used to be kind of Hard Rock at this time. Nowadays they turned to something quite electro/pop/rock and soft. They're a 20 yr-old bands so this explains why hehe.

Since you mentioned Tété , I discovered Asa thanks to him! I haven’t listen to her new record yet!

I actually don't know Tété this much just the ''posté devant la fenetre...'' song ahah

Waouh, I wouldn’t have thought of this band! The English of Catherine is excellent and indeed the mood is not so Rita Mitsouko! I will check out this album, it’s quite intriguing me now! Plus working with a member of SOAD, maybe Serj Tankian (I should check it out), makes it even more interesting!

That's Tankian indeed! He's singing on the track called Terminal Beauty I believe.

Why? Do The Cranberries not exist anymore? I thought there were on tour not so long ago?

They do, they do. They split in 2003 but decided to come back last year so they all had time to develop solo projects in between.

That’s what I thought too but I didn’t mentioned it in first place in order not to hurt the mixtape maker’s feelings in case he/she liked the Italian guy!

Ahah not all, and feel free to hurt my feelings :D

Finally I’m not so good at recognizing voices! I think it’s because my memory only memorized the high voice and not the low voice of Axl Rose! I only know a couple of Guns N'Roses songs! But I’m glad it made you laugh and I’m sorry you had a bad dream because of that! I will not do this again, promise

Oh I actually heard a wonderful duet version of the song in my dreams so it was not that bad, quite pleasant as a matter of fact:D

Ok here is my review (finally!!) I’m so sorry I took ages with it, I hope it’s OK, never done this before J

My mixtape review

1. This has an atmospheric intro, followed by choral female vocals, which I can’t tell what language they are in ; they sound half-French but I can make out “cherry blossom girl”. Not really my kind of thing.

2. Oooh! A piano intro, that is a definite way to win me over J! The singer’s voice seems familiar, and I like the way he breathes! Really like this.

3. I wasn’t sure about this before, but it’s definitely grown on me. The singer has a very distinctive voice and he can reach some high notes! Like this.

4. The first female-vocal song. She has a good voice but I don’t really like this song, it seems to go on too long for my liking, and sounds like 3 songs rolled into 1!

5. Definitely my favourite so far, I really love everything about this song! J I love the singer’s voice, the cool bass. The only bad thing about this is the painful sound-effects at the start and end of this song, “The test is overrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!” Love this.

6. A pleasant song, quiet and acoustic with harmonising male voices.

7. This seems similar to Track 1 but I prefer this; not a fan of the sax though.

8. Woo! Last Shadow Puppets-Meeting Place! I absolutely love this song J! The weird thing is I actually put this on my mixtape hehe J

9. Woah this is a long song! A little too long for my liking, and it doesn’t seem to go anywhere. I was bored by the end.

10. Cool drumming. A slow burner I think as I quite like it now J

11. Love this J Sounds like Morrisey, this is more my thing J

12. Very catchy song.. Gets a bit annoying by the end though

13. I think I have heard this song on the radio before – don’t know who it is though! Really love this and I love the way it builds up! J

14. I know this is Pearl Jam – Black because it’s my sister’s favourite song! I do love it it’s very intense!

15. Wicked drumming! This singer sounds like the same one on Track 5! Like this J

To my mixtape maker, whoever you are, I really enjoyed this mixtape J There were quite a few songs that I really liked and some I loved as well! And only 3 artists I knew as well J And I’m dying to find out who Track 5 etc are! Thankyou for introducing me to them, whoever they are! xxx

Highlights: 2, 13, 5, 11, 15

Lowlights: 1,4,7, 9

Hi Ireentje, I made your mixtape!

Remember, you made mine a few mixtape sessions back, in the beginning of the year 2010, if I recall correctly!

I hope your holidays are only delayed because of the snow!

I’m glad you liked lots of the songs and that you had fun listening and reviewing the mixtape :pleased:

To my mixtape-maker: I loved reviewing this! :) Nice varied selection and only one song I already knew, I really enjoyed listening to this a couple of times. I didn't like everything on it per se, but what do you expect.

1. Sounds like one of those "The String Quartet Tribute to.."-covers, and I have a feeling I should know what this is a cover of as it sounds familiar. Can't recall it for the life of me, though. It's a nice song, a bit rock (if that can be said of string music)! I'm curious about the original artist.

It’s a cover from "Famous Last Words" by My Chemical Romance! One of my favorite song from them! I found that cover pretty awesome so I thought why not share it! The guy also made a nice cover of

, if you want to check it out!

2. A piano track, quite old school dramatic Tom Waits-style, limping and bluesy. When I hear the singing voice, I want to say Dresden Dolls or Amanda Palmer, but I can't say for sure because I don't know enough of their music. This is something I'd want to listen to over a good glass of whiskey and sulking.

You guessed right, it's The Dresden Dolls from their live album!

3. I hear an upright bass and some bongos. A gentle, young female voice sings about love. This is quite easy listening, although it is something I'd put on in the background to hum along to rather than sit and listen. It's also a bit short.

I agree it’s a short song! It’s by Ingrid Michaelson, you maybe have heard some of her songs in the soundtrack of "Grey’s Anatomy"!

4. Pretty psychedelic opening with male harmonies and an acoustic guitar. Judging by the production this is probably 60s inspired rather than actually 60s made. I like it, it's all sultry and trippy and it even has birdsong in it.

It’s a song from an Australian band: The Vines! This one is quite calm comparing to the others on the album! Maybe you know the song

which is one of their hit!

5. Classical. I have a feeling I know this from somewhere. I may have had to play something like this for my piano lessons. I like classical music every once in a while, but this bores me because it's quite standard chamber music.

I understand it must have been boring for you since you have a classical music baggage ;) I only discovered Antonin Dvorak a few months ago!

6. Something from a musical? All drama and dun-dun-dun? I'm very confused because the lyrics and voice sound like the singer from System of a Down, Serj Tankian. I haven't heard any of his solo work, but as I said it sounds like something from a musical. I don't really like it, but it's interesting to have heard.

No, not a musical at all but yes, it’s Serj Tankian  He played his first album “Elect the dead” with an orchestra in New Zealand and released it as a cd/dvd. He also organized a tour through Europe, where he played with orchestra from the country!

7. VERY extremely hilariously 80s. It's either actually 80s, like Depeche Mode, or it's one of those 80s revivalist bands like Hurts or summat, but so far I've refused listening to them so I wouldn't know. The song isn't all bad, but after a minute the 80s style drum production is working on my nerves so much I can't really listen to it. This is probably something I'd be able to appreciate more in a cover version by some contemporary artist like oh, say, Coldplay? :P

Your words are a bit harsh on this one! Depeche Mode is still a contempory band but I totally understand you don’t like this kind of music! Other artists have already done covers of Depeche Mode's songs (Rammstein, Linkin Park,...)! A cover by Coldplay could be great, indeed!

8. I knew what this was at literally the first 2 guitar notes! It's Wet Sand by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I'm such a huge Peppers nerd, like you wouldn't believe. As I have their official biography and considered for years getting that asterisk tattooed on my wrist, I don't think I can say anything objective or useful about this, so I'll just leave it at this: <3

I’m an average RHCP fan, if you can say so but I really want to see them live once in my life! I really like this song especially the ending!

Have you already seen them live? What is/are your favorite(s) album(s)?

9. More piano. Sorta indie. I like how it pumps on, and I like it even better when the electric guitar joins in. Something to listen to while trying to plough through the snow on my bike in an hour or so ;)

It’s a French band called AaRON and this song is the first single of their newest album released not so long ago!

How much snow do you have where you live?

10. Acoustic guitar weeee. Quite a typical Baritone voice. At times he lays the dramatic tremolo on a bit too thick. All and all it sounds inspired by very early "pop" and folk music. I like the lyrics a lot, they're well crafted.

It’s The Divine Comedy and behind this name is hidden Neil Hannon, a Northern Irish artist!

11. A love/drinking song, no doubt. Has an accent and an accordion and everything. Irish folk style. Quite OK.

Another Irish band : The Pogues!

12. Beatboxing + guitar. Very catchy! "We all kick the bucket in the end, the end!". It's incredibly uplifting despite the singer's above insurance. I really love this, the instrumentation is hilarious and the lyrics nicely fourth-wall breaking :) I wanna know who this is!

It’s Charlie Winston, an English artist! He has quite a huge success in France!

13. Eastern-style opening guitar. Breaks down into a more progressive rock-type thing. It's OK, but not great. It has a hidden bit at the end that seems very funnily out of place, something Spanish or Balkan style with bits of The Offspring's Pretty Fly for a White Guy in it, which I like MUCH better. I'm guessing this is the Offspring, then?

You guessed right, The Offspring! It’s the ending song of the album "Americana", that’s why there is the hidden song which I find very catchy!

The End.

And to sum up:

http://www.mediafire.com/?a3xaxba28lfyic8

1. Eric Wuest – Famous Last Words (Violin Covers) 4:09

2. The Dresden Dolls – Missed Me (A Is For Accident) 4:48

3. Ingrid Michaelson – The Way I Am (Girls And Boys) 2:17

4. The Vines – Autumn Shade II (Winning Days) 3:14

5. Antonín Dvořák/Pro Arte Orchestre (dir. Kurt Redel) – Serenade for String Orchestra in E Major, Op. 22: Moderato 4:59

6. Serj Tankian – The Charade (Elect The Dead Symphony) 4:26

7. Depeche Mode – Never Let Me Down Again (The Singles 86-98) 4:21

8. Red Hot Chili Peppers – Wet Sand (Stadium Arcadium) 5:09

9. AaRON – Seeds of Gold (Birds In The Storm) 3:20

10. The Divine Comedy – A Lady Of A Certain Age (Victory For The Comic Muse) 5:47

11. The Pogues – A Pair Of Brown Eyes (Very Best Of The Pogues) 3:42

12. Charlie Winston – Kick The Bucket (Hobo) 2:39

13. The Offspring – Pay The Man (Americana) 10:19

SHAME ON YOUUUU :sneaky: You should really give it a try, his lyrics are just ace (poetic and/or comical. Plus, he's a real sunshine on stage, amazing and funny performer! If you need a Tété debrief, you know where to find me  :D

9. AaRON – Seeds of Gold (Birds In The Storm) 3:20

I see new AaRON is popular on the french front :D *high5*

I totally agree and may I add that his dance moves are quite great to see (mention spéciale à ses petits déhanchés sexy!)!

This song is just awesome and I really like the acapella at the end! Let's "contaminate" the other countries :D

No review for my tape still :(

Hi Ireentje, I made your mixtape!

Remember, you made mine a few mixtape sessions back, in the beginning of the year 2010, if I recall correctly!

I hope your holidays are only delayed because of the snow!

I’m glad you liked lots of the songs and that you had fun listening and reviewing the mixtape :pleased:

To answer your questions: I've seen the Peppers live 2 times, in 2006 and 2007. My favorite album is hard to decide, but I think I'll go with Californication.

There's about 25 cms of snow where I live.

I still haven't received a review for my mixtape!

Me neither. :shifty:

My review:

Hi Carrow! I'm your mixtape maker! :D

I must admit, when I got you as a partner I freaked out a bit after looking at your blog and pretty much scrapped what I'd had planned for my mixtape, because it seemed to me that you'd listened to most artists/songs that I was going to put on there! As a result I took full advantage of my geographical location and put a lot of Aussie tunes on there, because I was pretty certain you hadn't heard much Aussie stuff :P

Anyway!

1. I'm really reminded of Phoenix when I listen to this. Something about the singer's voice that's very similar. Great melody with a fantastic vocal harmony in the chorus.

The Piper's Song - Gypsy & The Cat

One of my favourites from the debut by this (Aussie) band.

2. Yay, electro-pop! I have the funniest feeling I've heard this somewhere before. Nice vocals, great use of handclaps, very 80s-ish production.

Holidays (feat. Alan Palomo) - Miami Horror

Another track from an Aussie band's (somewhat awesome) debut.

3. The Wombats - Tokyo (Vampires and Wolves) - I recognised the chorus from somewhere and it gave it away (even though I don't remember ever hearing it before), and then I twigged the band. Very different to something like 'Let's Dance To Joy Division' anyway. I like this rather a lot!

 I love it too, hopefully the new album keeps up with this song!

4. E minor! YES! That's my favourite key. Falsetto vocals that work really well. This is a little Sufjan Stevens-y to my ears, even though I know it's not him. The mixtape's great so far.

The Ghost Inside - Broken Bells

There are a couple of gems on that album, this song being one (in my opinion anyway).

5. Hmm. Country-tinged rock, not something I usually go for. I can actually tolerate the singer's voice which is surprising. Good lyrics too!

I thought this one might be a bit touch-and-go. This is a song called The Ghost I Saw When I Was Dreaming by a band called Ball Park Music, that have only recently started out in my home city. I thought this was the most easily accessible song on their EP.

6. Cover of The xx's Crystalised. That was one of my favourite songs of last year, and I like this version quite a bit.

Isn't is great??? Like you said, this is a cover of The xx's Crystalised, performed by Gorillaz at a recent BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge Session. Unfortunately not many people seem to have heard it, but I think it's fantastic!

7. Nice drums. This is in... C minor I think. It doesn't try to be flashy or anything; quite an unassuming song, but it suits it well. I'd be interested in finding out who this is by.

Rabbit Song - Boy & Bear (another Aussie artist...)

This song if from their debut EP, which was released earlier this year. The whole EP is brilliant, so if you like this song I highly recommend you check out some of their other stuff!

8. Another upbeat indie-pop song. I'm a bit of a sucker for this kind of stuff, and as it goes, this is rather good. Vocals are Vampire Weekend-y. I approve.

Let You Down - Hungry Kids of Hungary.

Another track from a debut album by an Aussie band. They often get likened to VW :D

9. Garage rock. I like the riff, and the vocal harmonies are nice too. Interested to hear about this too.

Half Full Glass of Wine - Tame Impala

I saw on your blog that you liked Tame Impala's debut LP, so I thought I'd give you a taste of some of thier earlier stuff ;)

10. Hmm. Sounds like it could be on an American drama of some sort. Pretty inoffensive adult-oriented rock. Not really my thing, and the worst part is I'm sure there are far too many songs that sound the same.

Sunsets - Powderfinger

Haha, I wasn't sure about adding this one. But I wanted to because these guys have just debanded after playing a massive farewell tour around the country, sort of as a tribute I guess, as they're pretty much legends over here. But they're not everyone's cup of tea, I know :P

This song is from one of their earlier but most successful albums.

11. I'm racking my brains trying to think where I've heard this before! Something about it sounds incredibly familiar. It's quite good.

Board the Apartment Up - Seabellies

Another track from an Aussie debut... the whole album follows a similar sound but is very good.

12. Atmospheric, synth-driven, treated vocals. This is EXCELLENT! Probably the highlight of the mixtape so far.

Broken Bones - The Holidays

Yet another track from an Aussie band's debut album - my favourite song from the album, so if you love this track I would definitely recommend you take a look at the album because it's really, REALLY good!

13. Delphic - Acolyte - I CAN'T EVEN. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PUTTING THIS ON THERE!!! One of my favourite songs of the year. It's almost transcendental. SO GOOD.

Haha, I saw that you liked Delphic (from your blog) so I knew you'd appreciate it!

It's one of my favourite tracks of the year too

These guys need to be listened to more!!

14. Is this Grizzly Bear? Please tell me it's Grizzly Bear. I recognise the singer's voice - AND THIS IS A HOT CHIP COVER! OH MY GOD THIS IS BRILLIANT. And I Was A Boy From School, right?

Correct!

Grizzly Bear - And I Was a Boy From School (Hot Chip Cover)

This was recorded for Triple J, a (rather amazing) national radio station we have. Every week they get a band in to play one of their songs and then a cover, and then release some of the covers in a compilation every year. This is by far my favourite song on the latest compilation.

15. Gorgeous melody. Those strings add so much to the song. I thought 'female Caleb Followill' when I heard her voice. This is a good thing.

Big Jet Plane - Angus & Julia Stone

What if I told you the vocals were male? :P The harmonies are female, though.

Another great Aussie artist, this is from their sophomore album. It's great :D

16. Percussion. More female vocals. Nice chord progression and atmosphere. This is another thing I don't usually like, but this particular song is very good.

Beast of Love - Cloud Control

I must admit, this was one of my least favourite songs on the album this song came off (again, a debut from an Aussie artist) until I heard it live, perhaps you'd have liked some of their other songs better. Anyway, it's one of my favourite Australian albums of the year, so (obviously) I'm going to recommend you look more into these guys, too!

Also, the harmonies are sung by a male ;)

17. The XX covering Florence And The Machine covering The Source - You Got the Love - Had never heard this before but was well aware of its existence. I like it very much, so thanks.

Yes!

Glad you enjoyed it, I love it too :D

18. Do you want to reduce me to tears?! There's something incredibly affecting about this song. Those lyrics.... sung in that voice... wow. AND THE WAY IT GETS GOING. Holy shit, this actually gives me shivers. NEED TO KNOW WHO THIS IS.

Kettering - The Antlers

That's exactly what I thought when I first heard the song!! It's so... haunting, I guess. If you don't want to be reduced to tears then don't listen to the rest of the album, but I wouldn't recommend that, because it's brilliant!

Overall, very good mixtape. I was worried it was gonna go off the rails with track 10, but it recovered, and the combination of those last two songs is wonderful. 8/10 I would say. Thanks very much. :)

You're VERY welcome, I'm really glad you enjoyed it (I'm satisfied with an 8/10 :P)! And that you didn't know many of the songs, I was a little worried!

Also, with 11 of the tracks being from Australian artists (and a lot of those from debut albums or releases) hopefully I've given you a bit of an insight into the Aussie music scene :P

I'm waiting for the tracklisting now :) maybe because I posted my review late, my mixtape partner gave up on me!

*not going to quote Graceful's post because it would look really awkward with all those quotes-within-quotes, but*

I shall certainly have to investigate a few of those, thank you. :)

*is still waiting for a reviewwwwwwwwww*
