So, I know that a lot of people have been talking about the "Trilogies", like the album trilogy (I.E. Parachutes - AROBTTH - X&Y; VLVODAAHF - MX - LP6), one of those trilogies being the East Asia trilogy (Lovers in Japan, Princess of China, LP6). However, after listening to Viva La Vida... again, shouldn't the East Asia trilogy actually be a quadrilogy with the release of LP6, since Viva La Vida also had Chinese Sleep Chant?

I wasn't assuming, it was just that I had heard others mention it.

I actually felt I got a shit deal with the last album. The final product was disappointing after waiting over three years and then we only got one b side and then a mere acoustic version of Princess of China ft bloody Rihanna which is just as dull and uninspiring as the original. It's probably a good thing because my expectations for LP6 is far lower because of MX. They churn out MX part II though and I think they may lose me forever. Chris Martin seems to be getting more irritating by the year for me especially when he's now talking and singing in an Americanised accent. MX seemed like a naff ego trip for him at times. There was not nearly enough from Guy, Will and Johnny and most of the songs seemed drowned out by needless overproduction (often an excuse to cover up poor songs).

It's a shame LP5 wasn't. Maybe that's why MTM was put out as a b side in the first place.

^ I think it was put as a bside because they really really focused on the story and the length of the album. When you take that into account, it is true that MTM didn't really fit. They would have had to put UATW out of the album for instance, which would have been a big mistake too. I think that's the problem of MX, they seem to have focused too much on the storytelling for the track list, which resulted for instance in having an okay-but-not-that-good Up in flames because they had to have a sort of "break-up" song, and leaving the absolutely epic MTM.

There doesn't need to be a coherent story with an album for it to be good. Moving to Mars was very quiet that built up as the song went along.

 

I'm hoping the new album will contrast MX in that it won't be going for stadium booming sounds and bright lights, but with somber and quieter noise with nice acoustic sound.

I'm scared of how many brilliant songs we haven't heard because they didn't fit into the album. MTM is one of my favorites and I'm dying to finally hear Car Kids one day.

I want more bass on the new album, something like blues or jazz, goddamit

I was seriously hoping we had alredy more information about the new album by now, some tips about what's happening on the studio, if you think about it I'm not even sure they ever said what producers are working with them, I just assumed Brian Eno and Markus Dravs would be there.

Up In Flames actually grew on me. And I don't think its a big deal that MTM didn't make it on MX... the important thing is we got it and can listen to it. Besides, if you listen to music most of the time on your iPod, you can always make a custom playlist with MTM inserted wherever you like.
