yesssssssssssss what a fantastic thread.

honestly i have so many emotions towards this album i cant even explain it. all i can say is it changed my life in so many ways.

it is by far the best coldplay album to date and for me the greatest of all time and the only music record better than anything pink floyd ever came up with, or any other band for that matter.

Even with all the praise it's gotten already I think in the future people are gonna look back on it and realize it's even better than they originally thought!

VERY TRUE! i think it will take more time for people to realise what a masterpiece it truly was

 everyone

Did you know that the artwork for A Rush of Blood was originally meant to be inverted colors?

Does Rush look better in black? I personally think so.

wow looks pretty cool! don't know if its better though maybe cuz we're already so used to the white cover

Coldplay inspired me to start playing piano again after MANY years of not touching the keyboard. "In My Place" was the first Coldplay song I learned to play. I love the whole song, from Jonny's instantly identifiable riff to Chris's voice as he begs "Please, please, please, come back and sing to me...."

When the band announced the End of the Decade sale in 2009 I immediately spotted the lithograph of the single cover for IMP and bid on it - and won. It is proudly displayed in my home where I can look at it every day and appreciate this wonderful song and wonderful album. You can see it in my avatar.

Thank you, Coldplay, for all the gifts you have given your fans through the years, and especially for A Rush of Blood to the Head.

In My Place - 10th Anniversary - August 6, 2012

The lead single is the absolute definite, most important tool in the promotion of an album. Tradition since the 70s, lead singles are the best way to show off the colors of your new album, whether it be a week away, or a whole year away from release. In this case, three weeks before the release of their soon-to-be acclaimed A Rush of Blood to the Head. Although the music video for the single had in fact been released a whole two months earlier on June 17, 2002, the single itself was released alot later, in what seems to be a quick money grab for the band and Parlophone before the album came out, rather than a celebration of their album.

10 Years, 3 Studio Albums, 24 Singles and millions of records sold later, "In My Place" is still being regarded as one of the best songs to ever come out of the now world famous Coldplay. Amongst the general crowd, "In My Place" is a legend. One of those songs that you've heard a million times, but have no idea what the name is, or who plays it. In sharp contrast, Coldplayers never forget this song.

In another sharp contrast, the single boasted two B-sides. "One I Love" and "I Bloom Blaum"'s critical acclaim was the polar opposite of "In My Place". One of mass shitstorms and fireballs. In a weird and sad sort of legacy, "I Bloom Blaum" is still to this day, cited as one of the worst Coldplay songs.

"In My Place" has since charted at #1 only in Poland, which, let's be honest, the easiest market to dip into. In the UK it charted at #2, being certified Gold there, and no certifications in the US, but managing to peak on the alternative chart at #17, while bubbling under the Billboard 200 at #17. The song had also won the band's first ever Grammy award, for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal (2003).

"In My Place" made it's live debut at the 2002 Glastonbury Festival, host to some of the greatest concerts in history. Roger Waters finally sang "The Fletcher Memorial Home" for the very first time to the delight of many Roger and Pink Floyd fans around the world, and let's not even mention Rod Stewart's legendary performance at Glasto '02, but there was a performance that topped them all. Coldplay. Bashing out songs that never have been heard before, like "Politik", a heart-stopping opener from a band known for playing very soft songs like the Parachutes album. Overall, though, the song that we still carry in our heads from Glasto was "In My Place". A song we've never forgotten since that night. A song we never will forget.

Join me in celebration of one of the best songs to ever come out of Coldplay.

This is "In My Place"

^:nod: I LOVE I Bloom Blaum :awesome::dazzled:

10 years already...I remember, years before I started to really love Coldplay, I knew this song already and loved it. I'm the kind of person who flips through channels A LOT, like all the time, but whenever I'd come across the video of IMP I'd NEVER change the channel, I'd always stay til the end. I didn't know Coldplay yet, I didn't know I'd become a fan. I guess that was a sign :wacky:

In My Place was one of those songs every time I would listen to it on the radio I would enjoy, without even knowing who they were at the time, when I really got into the band, in 2008, I was surprisde to find out it was Coldplay's. Now It's my favourite from the album and the whole first "trilogy". The amazing about it is that it's not really uncommon to hear it on the radio these days, and it sounds fresh every time.

On the 26th, we should only listen to ROB era music. For an entire day! Start your day off with Politik and end it with Amsterdam.

This is my favorite album ever, not only because most of my favorites songs are in there, but also because it was after i discovered the band i loved name's was Coldplay (hard to accomplish if you live and costa rica, are only 11 years old and do not really know how to use a computer...) that they released the album! So it brings a lot of great memories.

10 years old? Has it really come to this?!

This is an incredible album. Judging by the comments on this thread it is clearly a very emotional and personal album for all of us. Without this album Coldplay would have passed under the bridge without a hint of it being there not just for me but probably millions others as well. An album that was so mature beyond their very young years. You'd be forgiven for thinking that Mylo Xyloto came in their early twenties and this came in their mid 30s. I'm not saying Mylo Xyloto is "immature" or anything, not in the slightest. It's just a whole lot more pop orientated and a whole lot less personal. Where A Rush Of Blood catered to the individual listener, MX served the needs to a 60,000 packed out arena/football stadium. Both records do their jobs exceptionally well but because the album experience is on the whole just you and the music, A Rush of Blood To The Head will always come out tops. It came at a time when Coldplay were instantly recognisable as a British band, before they became the international mega band which Viva La Vida and MX turned them into.

Cemeteries Of London, 42, Violet Hill and Death And All His Friends feel very british for me... I do agree MX sounds a bit more "american".
