Midnight

What do you think of the new song, midnight? Will it be on LP6 or is it just a single on it's own. Personally, I'm not a fan of the auto tune and It's kind of boring. It's a bit of a disappointment after Atlas.

I think what most people are hearing and thinking it's autotune is just the harmonizer he's using. It just takes his voice, automatically copies it and shifts it up and down. So it sounds less human. But if Chris was singing out of tune the harmonization would be out of tune too. With that being said, a bit of pitch correction might have been used here and there but pretty much every artist will do that in the studio.

I love the song though :) I wanted them to go down a darker road forever and do something that is non commercial and shows their musicianship.

I believe it is a b-side to Magic, the new song coming Monday, and I think the 1st single for LP6. This would explain why it's not on iTunes yet. However, I think it's a great song, had to grow on me after a few listen though.

I can't imagine coldplay playing midnight live, no guitar, no drums...

Just like I said in previous forum, this song need some more listens and then you start to like the song. My first reaction was something like "What the heck? What's wrong with Chris' voice? Electro? Really?". But now I really love this song, even though I can't stand that thing with the voice. :)

During the 2013 hiatus, I remember saying to myself that I wouldn't mind if Coldplay adopted some sort of Ambient or Atmospheric sound and boom, Midnight is released. Now I'm just so eager to hear what they have in store. Granted Midnight is indicative of what LP6 may sound like, or at least some of the tracks with the guys not deviating too far from that textbook Coldplay sound. Though I do have to say, upon first listen it definitely took me by surprise, and it took me a few listens to really grasp and get used to, but it grew on me and now I just love it.

It keeps growing on me as well.. everytime I listen to it I keep hearing new things or a new section of the song that really grabs me. It's so beautiful, really. Even the use of the vocoder suits this really well. It just took a lot of people by surprise, I think. I'm happy they dared to go here.. and I hope they'll stay in this style for the album. (although I wouldn't mind hearing the other 3 guys a bit more.. and less of the vocoder on other tracks. Chris doesn't need any voice alterations ;) )

i was shock when i first hear midnight, but after listening it for hours i'm getting used to it and starting to like it. and now i'm really curious about their album, what it'll be like? i can't wait.

but, yeah, i like atlas better.

In the darkness before the dawn

In the swirling of the storm

When I’m rolling with the punches and hope is gone

Leave a light a light on

Millions of miles from home

In the swirling swimming on

When I’m rolling with the thunder

But bleed from thorns

Leave a light a light on

Leave a light a light on

In the darkness before the dawn

In the darkness before the dawn

Leave a light, a light on

Leave a light, a light on

Timber was extremely lucky to get the opportunity to work closely with director Mary Wigmore and Arcade Edit's Kim Bica to create a complex layered journey in to the sonic melodies of Coldplay's First single, Midnight, for their upcoming album. The texturally layered effects add to the dreamy dark environment that was created by shooting the footage on a thermal camera one night in the hills over Hollywood.

I'm pretty sure this song won't be on LP6.

Hopefully not... . Just as bad as Princess of China.

I don't know about you guys but I can really imagine the boys opening a show with this. Imagine the dark arena, then either the band appear one by one carrying lamps of some kind or just single spotlights turning on...

By the end of the song, it either builds up into something bigger from LP6 or crashes into something like Politik

In any case....awesome!

I love it. I'm relieved they can and want to do something different than singalong songs with a climax towards the end. An unpredictable Coldplay is far more interesting to me. I hope Magic continues along this road although I'm not getting my hopes up.

I think the harmonizer effect is beautiful. It's easy enough to recognise Chris' voice and it grabbed me instantly.

I LOVE the track!! Beautiful and relaxing. I'm usually not much into that sound, but they made it in a way that I actually enjoy. Like, it's not *too* calm for me for instance. Anyway, it's so beautiful. The lyrics are also great, very good job from Chris here.

I'm among the ones who think it will be on LP6, most likely as the intro track.

I feel they really sent a message with that one, that they're back and we should not forget they always reinvent themselves. This song is sooooo different from anything they've ever done! Really cool.

Thanks Jon Hopkins for starting on that track in 2003 and for working with Coldplay again. ;) Jon Hopkins and Coldplay together always give something beautiful and different (from what Coldplay usually does). :wacky:

I like this Song! But at first I was a little bit shocked, because that´s not what I love about Coldplay. It starts with Chris´s electro voice and the fact that we don´t have any guitar sounds. But this Song really grew on me, because I like this music in general. (I like Bon Iver or Imogen Heap) And I like the fact that they are trying something different. But I still want to hear other sounds from Coldplay and thats what I am hoping for LP6, I think they are better with another style of music.

Midnight's probably the most unique Coldplay songs I ever seen or heard. You can't hear the usual instruments. The music video's weird and unusual, even by Coldplay standards. Yet it's very charming in an indie music sort of way. Thought it will get you many listening to fully embrace the song.

When I heard Chris' voice, I didn't think it was digitally enhance, it sounds like a bunch of echos or voices like in near end of Fix You. When video is quite simple, thought I think it's visually portrayed very well.

Overall, I love it.

We are all having such a hard time figuring out what this song is, what this thing is.

I was, like everyone, surprised the first time I heard it. Since I love surprises, I was already liking it. Now the more I hear it, the more I love it. I gave it a 9/10, the higher grade I've ever given to a Coldplay song on here I think. (I didn't even give a 9 to ETIAW who turned out to become my all time favorite CP song.) I am truly DIGGING Midnight (oh and I love the vocoder).

Now, the thing is, part of why I love it so much is because it's Coldplay, and because, as I said, it's a huge surprise and I'm delighted to see they 'had the balls' to come up with this, knowing a lot of people would be truly confused. Yesterday, we learned that Midnight may 'just' be a b-side for Magic. That could change everything. Coldplay have never disappointed me yet (I love Mylo Xyloto, I even love Princess of China), so I'm not scared at all, but I'm truly wondering what I'll think of Midnight tomorrow once we got to hear Magic and once we'll know better where the guys are heading to with all this.

But I just wanted to say that I love the ephemera state that we are in right now: we just have this 'UFO song', and we have no idea what's coming next. It's so exciting, and part of the whole Coldplay experience.

Very happy with the new song. Best grower CP have released for a long long time. So refreshing from the predicable moments of Atlas.
