Let's not forget that the Itunes Festival takes place in Texas. Maybe you're right.

I guess we just have to wait. We'll find out soon enough.

3 new songs = more Coldplay. That can't be a bad thing.

It doesn't make sense that Target gets 3 new songs. Yes sometimes Target gets extra new songs (eg 20/20 experience by Justin Timberlake) but I don't believe that it's the same case with Ghost Stories, because I think (only speculation) that Ghost Stories is about a love story. So it means that it's a complete story. You can't add songs to a completed story and 3 new songs only for the US is unlikely and further The 20/20 Experience had no story.

B-sides, yo.

If I remember correctly, both Imagine Dragons and OneRepublic had Target special releases with extra songs also. And, for what it's worth, those extra songs on each album were some of the best that the bands had to offer. If the songs turn out being live versions of songs already on the album, I'll be a bit disappointed, but acoustic versions of songs like Magic and Midnight would be cool too. With that being said, I'd much rather them be new songs.

I'd love an acoustic version of Midnight with no vocoder

Ditto!

After searching through Target.com, I'm pretty convinced they're going to be completely new songs. Out of 25 or so albums with exclusive Target bonus tracks, 23 featured only new studio songs while only 2 of the albums had ANY live/remixed songs, and both STILL had brand new studio songs mixed in with the remixes. I mean Target has exclusive studio recordings from all these huge artists, I don't see why Coldplay would be immune to it. If I'm not mistaken artists included in this list of 25 like Taylor Swift are arguably more popular in the U.S. than Coldplay is, although clearly not better. :P And let's also keep in mind they're on Atlantic rather than Capitol here in the U.S., with a change of company might come new music policy- for better or worse.

I think that one of the bonus tracks will be Ghost Stories. Or maybe a hidden track, in honour to its name.

The pre-order part on the front page of Coldplay's site has been updated.

I think it is a good sign that the 3 bonus tracks will be new. If not, maybe acoustic versions?

Where does it say new?

Q. How come there is no self titled Ghost Stories track? Since every album so far has a self titled track. Thanks Oracle!

THE PLOT THICKENS...

I hope they will also release this special edition in the Target in Canada.

It will probably be easy to get your hands on through ebay or whatever.

I doubt there will be any new songs. People are right that it is not at all unlike TARGET to get exclusive songs from artists, but is unlike COLDPLAY to give three entirely new songs to an exclusive and limited retailer. I would bet on a combination of acoustic versions, remixes, one new track only, or demo versions because I've gotten target CDs before where the bonus tracks are just acoustic demos (which is cool) :)

EDIT:

OMG ALL NEW SONGS I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY TO BE COMPLETELY WRONG

Also, post #37 would be evidence to suggest there is at least one new song.

It seems odd to me that a band that has been so obsessed with creating albums as a complete artistic experience would just tack three random songs on to the end of a record. As someone has already mentioned I am sure this is more of a business decision than a creative one. Having said that count me among those who are expecting something along the lines of live, acoustic, or even remix tracks. If there are songs that did not make the record but are still of a high enough quality to be released I have a hard time believing it would be on something as limited as this. As far as Ghost Stories as a possible song is concerned I would have to think that would be a hidden track on the album proper. I can't see the oracle refrencing something in regards to the album that would be available to only a portion of the fan base.

Likely on same release day the 3 additional songs- in whatever form- will appear as an itunes deluxe version after everyone has preordered the cd.

I wouldn't stress about CD bonus tracks. They'll be uploaded and easy to get. Vinyl is much more annoying. My "A Spell A Rebel Yell" mp3 sounds pretty goofy. I feel like you would need the actual vinyl to hear it right.

i've been checking target's shipping policy, none outside the us. it's really annoying, hell, coldplay is an uk band! why the us even?! i'm really annoyed, i'm from latin america, everything for us is so hard to get and expensive and they keep screwing us over. first the cancelation of the mx tour in latin america and then this. could it be that no fan outside the us can get the full album? we knew 9 songs wouldn't be a complete album... one thing is to release a bonus track on a japanese edition (that everyone did since the beginning of time for some reason, i still don't get it) but another thing is to cut 3 songs from an album that has ONLY 9! YOU'RE GIVING US AN EP! and the songs weren't pinkfloydian in duration... prospekt's march release may've been a theft, this definetly is. i don't want to download the songs via youtube, nor buy the overpriced album via ebay... i want to get the REAL album! i'm really angry for what should've been a really exciting announcement.

If anyone who lives in the US would like to order an extra one, and then send it to me, I'd be willing to pay more than you'd expect :)

Guess i'll just have to raise my pirate flag since thats what they're forcing me to do. Clearly, a bunch of us are willing to pay for it yet they are denying us that right, at least for now. Hopefully they come around, but i'll do what I have to to get those tracks.
