Stephie
Amazing! Finally jumping along in a big stadium again (though with the roof closed it more felt like a slightly bigger arena, but due to rain and thunder very welcome). I was slightly disappointed that with the early entry tickets the rails were pretty much occupied already when regular FOS entered. FOS 2 with the misleading name and totally different layout was a joke. Felt sorry for those guys. :( Glad though, that the crowd around me was pretty enthusiastic. (Though generally it seemed a bit tame.) My highlights were the pleasant surprise of Lovers In Japan, going crazy with the Paradise remix, celebrating life during AOAL (if I've only got this life, I wanna share this adventure with you, Coldplay <3), the dreamy guitar in See You Soon... The length of the set felt just right to me. Definitely longer than shows in the past. I couldn't have danced and sung along for much longer. :D Many of the screen visuals were stunning. Love the camera from above at the B stage! I sweated out about three litres of water, had a severe back ache and got toe cramps all the time...and it felt great! :D The small confetti though: That is like the most aggressive confetti ever. It was EVERYWHERE! It stuck to me like crazy, I had a ton of it fall out of my trousers and found some INSIDE my bra. My hotel room looked like a confetti bomb had exploded right in there.
cheeetaz
Ok guys, I've had 3 hours of decent sleep and i'm back at my work computer now. Seems like a perfect time to write down a few words about last night. First of, I was super excited for this tour to start. I've only experienced one stadium show prior to this one and after all the small gigs in the last couple of years all I wanted was a stadium tour to kick off. And boy, last night it did. I arrived at the Veltins-Arena at around 3pm. With the bad weather forecast in mind i packed an umbrella and a raincoat, just in case. Luckily they never came into use. I met up with Becky who was already waiting in line and about an hour later the gates were opened, we grabbed ourselves some xylobands (they are huge btw) and went in. As a proud holder of an FOS 2 ticket I was expecting to be quite close to the stage. I was eying a spot next to the walkway (not sure if it's called that way but you know what I mean). I was well aware of the fact that I wouldn't be able to get in the front row since I had FOS 2. Unfortunately, as mentioned a few pages earlier, FOS 2 wasn't really “Front-of-Stage”. There was no way to get to the walkway, not even close (see pictures on the previous pages). We were all a bit disappointed by it, especially since we virtually payed the same price as FOS 1. Either way, I was able to get a very nice spot at the barrier. So you could make an argument that I got to first row after all. The only twist was, my first row was 15 meters away from the stage. 9 pm approached and the excitement grew. And finally, a few minutes after the hour the guys were on stage, fireworks went off and A Head Full Of Dreams blasted through the speakers. Wow, what a way to start a show. I've seen bits of it from the last shows and have already had the pleasure to experience two small AHFOD era shows before this one so I knew in advance that it would be pretty good. It was even better. I'm not going to dissect every piece of the (good) setlist, you can judge for yourself. Just a few things. I was extremely happy to see Lovers In Japan making a return to the setlist. I just love that song. They performed it in an half acoustic version and I absolutely loved it. It was one of the highlights of the night. The new xylobands are great. But i'm not sure why they have a speaker. It wasn't doing anything. If someone could tell me why they have one and what it is doing please let me know. I have a feeling that they are much brighter than the old ones and the ability to change color is definitely a good improvement. Not worth mentioning, once they were switched on the stadium looked superb. Although, the closed roof took away a bit of the atmosphere. But that's probably just me, I just love open-air concerts. The show closed with Up&Up. It's just as good as a closer as AHFOD is as an opener. It was 11:07pm and the first of seven A Head Full Of Dreams shows for me was in the books. On our way out we stopped by the merch stand. Could someone please explain to me why there is a hoodie on sale for 110€? I was shocked to see that and couldn't believe my eyes. The t-shirts were all 30-35€ each and for some unknown reason there was this hoddie at 3 times the price. Didn't look any more special than the shirts. And that was it, a great first night with many more to come in the upcoming weeks. Next stop: Wembley. Yes, I can't believe i'm writing this and it's actually true. (If you need evidence of how good last night was, my voice sounds like i have smoked a trillion cigarettes over the last two days) And someone wanted a picture from the merch stand
Nie
Great report. I'm counting down for Wembley 18/6, since I have a pretty busy time at work it will arrive sooner than I realise. I must say that the merchandise stand looks a bit pathetic for such a big band...
aprilshack
Thanks for the merch pic. Have tweeted the CP account asking why the hoodie is so dear at the gigs when hoodies are so much cheaper on the CP Web store? Not expecting a reply. I'd expect an extra £10 on top of the webstore price at a gig but double the amount?! Was the hoodie embroidered on the back or silk screened? Gwaihir
That was my 2nd Coldplay after the MX tour and yet I was very high up the ranks on the side it was an amazing show! I´m still hoping for Brothers & Sisters some far day... I was very moved by the David Bowie tribute, I was shocked that day in January and it´s great to see Coldplay is a Bowie fan, too... medispolis
I can very much confirm all the other reviews so far. Gresat show. Coldplay were in excellent form (Will on drums - perfect!!!). What came into my mind last night is that I still love the live version of Clocks. And Charlie Brown is probably the best song live.

flockofbirds222
So I want to share my experience of my first concert ever. I was kind of worried at first that I arrived a bit late (around 5pm) because of the traffic and having school in the morning, but it turned out all right, we got spots almost at the front of our category. Sadly the FOS2 left was anything but at the front of the stage (idk about FOS2 right...?), which disappointed me a little, especially since the price seemed to be the same as FOS1... I couldn't see the B- and C-Stage, but the view at the main stage was actually rather good, so it was alright. I had actually hoped to be a little closer to the guys, it was so awesome to actually see them in real life after spending all this time just watching videos, it overwhelmed me a little at the beginning[emoji12] With the addition of Lovers in Japan the setlist was perfect imo. They played songs that made you want to dance, but also a few older songs on the C-Stage (Don't Panic, In My Place, See You Soon), all in all I appreciate so much that they're trying to make it great for everyone, playing their hits, newer more dancey songs and also a few songs that are older and just about the music, not the show. I was also quite happy with In My Place for the request. One of my highlights defenitly was when they played Lovers in Japan, I even thought of requesting this song before I decided for Gravity. I was kind if surprised that I seemed to be one of the only ones who screamed when Chris announced Lovers in Japan. The audience generally sometimes seemed a bit boring, of course they were singing and screaming and also dancing at some points, but I hardly saw people jumping, or really freaking out... however, that didn't stop me from singing, dancing, screaming and jumping like a crazy person haha[emoji23] Lol I was sweating a lot, especially since I wore the CP shirt I bought on top of my other shirt! I kind of would have liked to be covered in confetti lol, but not so much of it reached me (nor the balloons)... I love how they make everyone feel like a part of the show with the xylobands or Chris asking to turn the lights on so he can see us. Singing the viva chant together with the rest of the audience was such an awesome feeling... There was also a little buckin every now and then I just kind of hoped Chris would try to describe the band members in German, like he did in Spanish, that would have been funny af[emoji23] I loved how Chris announced Jonny would be singing during Don't Panic, he's so cute... Even though it was over pretty quickly, I still had the feeling like they were playing many songs, the 2 hours they did were perfect imo. I think Up&Up is the perfect closer, it's so beautiful that the last thing they giving us on our way is their ultimate message, BELIEVE IN LOVE! And it was also really beautiful that they played the awesome video in the background... All in all, as I already said, it was one of the best (probably the best) experience in my life! I hope I get to see them again soon! Even though I'm kind of sad it's over now I feel like Coldplay left this little spark in me[emoji4] (Sorry for spamming this thread with this long post about my experience haha[emoji12] )
flockofbirds222
By the way, I didn't take any pictures of the show I could post on here and I don't regret it, I thought of getting my phone out to take a few pictures for some time, but I decided that it wouldn't have been worth wasting a second of just enjoying the show, I really can't understand the people who spend the whole show filming... I can't wait to look at all the pictures and videos on the internet and relive the show in my head though...

But that's probably just me, I just love open-air concerts. about xylobands speakers, they work in the end of each concert, they turn on the lights of the bracelets and randomly a xyloband sound with a very nice sound. that's all... One of my highlights defenitly was when they played Lovers in Japan, I even thought of requesting this song before I decided for Gravity. I was kind if surprised that I seemed to be one of the only ones who screamed when Chris announced Lovers in Japan. iknowthefeelbro.jpg jajajaja with my wife we screamed like little boys recieving their expected christmas gift when the first chord of See You Soon was played in Barcelona (2nd night). A lot of people look us like... "What the hell this 2?"
MosesTheMarshmallow
Wow what an interesting semi-acoustic version of LIJ! The way the drums abruptly stop in the middle of the song was a bit weird though (in the album version it keeps on going). Also for anyone wondering, there's no backing track here - Will is playing an electronic kick drum using his foot. Batman
Alright so I've read through all of the great previous reviews, and I'll try to not repeat too many things :awesome: So what can I say, the organisation of the FOS1 left/right, FOS2 and general standing area was pretty much a big steaming pile of unfabulous poop. We were all just clustered together and in the end it didn't matter at all which site was printed on your ticket, you could walk freely thoughout the entire FOS1 area. From what I've heard the FOS2 people were pretty angry about the fact that the runway of the mainstage didn't go all the way back to the FOS2 area, which I can totally understand. And totally unrelated to the actual concert, yesterday was a PAIN weather-wise. It was 100% humid outside, constantly raining, and we always feared for thunderstorms the entire time we stood outside. It was very un-Germany-like weather, we felt like we were standing in a tropical forest omg. I attended the concert with 3 other awesome Coldplayer friends (my second family by now :wacky:) and made us all fancy thirts: and we just chilled in front of the runway/B-stage since we've had good experience with that spot. After a while a bunch of Early-Entry-people came to us, talked our ears off and just stood a little bit too close for my comfort. Then a couple of smokers decided it was all right to basically glue themselves to my back lmao. I mean, it's alright if you just stand behind me, but if I can feel your breath on my neck and there is absolutely friggn NO ONE standing behind yOU please back of a little will ya. One time I may or may not have passionately stepped on my backside human's foot a little too heavily, and it worked wonders in terms of personal space :awesome: During the waiting time inside the arena I walked around to look out for some merch stands. Guys, the prices, guys. The prices were freaking rIDICULOUS. 35€ (39$) for a shirt, 110€ (123$)!!! for a flippin' hoodie. A HOODIE. And it just had some rainbow type on it, nOTHING ELSE. The concert ticket itself costed less than this freakin thing wtf. Needless to say, I didn't buy a single thing. There were also some posters for something between 10-20€ but man, they were ugly. AnYWAYs, the supporting acts were freaking fabulous and had the most awesome voices, holy frick. I loved Lianne La Havas, I already had her album and didn't know she was one of the supporting acts (because I didn't spoil me at all for this tour this time in terms of seltists etc) so I was very pleasantly surprised. And she also complained about the humidty in the arena lmao. She was so joyful and beaming the whole time in spite of the mostly lame response she got from the concert goers lol. I mean the audience cheered, but you know Germans, they mostly just clap and whistle from time to time <__< Okay and since I suck with remembering the order of songs or which songs were generally played I'll just try to remember which moments stuck to me the most: At the beginning of the gig when Chris came to the end of Yellow (or whas is another song? Lmao I can't remember) the entire audience suddenly sang along very loudly and Chris was like: "Wow, that was beautiful! I was told that the Germans don't really sing along at all, but WOW!“ and man, he was so right hAHAH. I was surprised as well. Chris fucked up the beginning of Everglow. Funnily enough though, from where I stood nothing sounded wrong. I haven't seen any of the videos about this song yet and if you could tell that the piano was busted, but to me it sounded perfectly fine. Whatever though, the band just lol'd and Chris tried to save the moment with a joke that he told us about 5 years ago already. As some of you have already mentioned, the visuals were super cool. Really underlined the feelings of the songs that were played. Especially Birds was epic with a big scenery playing in the background with birds flying around. Since the A-stage in front of the huge background screen is tilted, Chris ran up there right in front of the middle so that he was placed exactly in the center of the screen, and at times it looked like all the psychedelic elements and colour explosions on the video screen actually came bursting out of him! The fx/visuals crew had some fancy ideas, I tell you! :charming: My friend scribbled a sweet message for Chris onto a piece of paper "Thank you for being my happy place", and during one of the earlier songs where he came running down to the very front of the b-stage, he stared at the poster, read it, smiled, and then blew a kiss at her. I guess I don't have to tell you that my right ear is now eternally deaf from her fangirl squeal. Fun thing was though, when Chris stood there staring, I felt the entire group of people surrounding me kind of freezing and just staring at him HAHAH. The Chris Martin effect was strong, it was STRONG INDEED :dead: I mentioned Buckin, didn't I? :charming: So, when Everglow began, Chris started with his usually pompous descriptions of his bandmates. And I don't know the exact words, but I think „handsome“ and „nice green pants“ or something like that was mentioned when he introduced Jonny lmao. And of course Jonny went all :cheesy: at that and everybody cheered because of reasons ~ :dazzled: Buckin² happened at the start of the „Heros“ cover. As the setlist that posted above me states so nicely, a single spotlight was on Jonny, and of course Chris came into view after a few seconds and just glued himself to Jonny's side, alternately arm slung over his shoulder and around his side, and just singing into his ear basically. I apologize to my fellow Coldplayers for the unhumanly sounds that left me during these moments :laugh3: There was a moment during one song (can't remember which one it was) where the band was on the B-stage, when Chris was walking all around the bandmembers and Guy was seemingly annoyed by that and just NOPEd away from him, right in front Jonny, and they both laughed their butts of at that. That was super random but I'm here for random facts! After AOAL the band all the way down the catwalk, to the b-stage right in front of us, and then steps down eVEN CLOSER TO OUR GRABBY HANDS :cheesy: and then past us all the very back to the arena to the C-stage. Of course I tried to touch them haha. I managed to touch Jonny's fingertip for like, 0,00000001 second, yeah :awesome: When they came back from their set on the c-stage, they came past us again. First came Jonny or Guy, I can't remember. Anyways, they just stared ahead of themselves like "If I don't look the fans into the eyes they might not touch me“ and of course that didn't work! Grabby hands everywhereee. I believe Jonny got the most hands into his face and back, omg that poor man lmao. Guy was like „jeSUs CHRIst“ and just fabulously avoided most of the fans buy rushing up the stairs. Then Will came and OMG he just, was SO DONE :laugh3: he didn't even go through the clearing the roadies made for him (you know the area between the barriers and the stage), but clambered right over tables and boxes standing right next to the stage, so that he was as far away as possible from the fans. One moment he was on all fours and the determination on his face to NOT get touched by us, I just, I can't  Chris took his time to get back and he was so covered in sweat, man. It was kinda nasty hahahaha. He also avoided most of the hands and basically flew up the stage, that disgustingly fit human. I noticed the wristbands had some audio things in them? I have no idea what's up with those. And because for SCIENCE I took them apart for you people to look at, maybe you understand the mechanics. The confetti variation was vast this time. Lots of different forms and shapes. The Mylo birds were back, but also tiny little paper squares that stuck the very SOUL of yours, gosh I had them in my freaking eye for like 5 minutes. Also plastic pearly shimmering stars and generally rainbow coloured confetti craziness. And balloons! I caught one and brought it all the way back home because OF REASONS :dazzled: yeah that's what stuck with me so far. Maybe I'll remember other this later today but I hope this was somewhat interesting for you to read :wacky:

chlllll
This show was the 7th time i saw then live, and i was really disappointed.. After hours in the pouring rain we couldn't get any closer than the tip of the b stage, because of the bloody golden circle. Wtf coldplay?! I don't think they considered it was a closed roof arena, so after all the pyro during AHFOD, the whole arena was filled with smoke. Couldn't even see the screen any more I was really surprised by LIJ, but it didnt have the same magical feeling as during their VLV tour. Birds was totally off, johnny couldnt keep the rythm, great song, but not for an arena. I don't know. The boys seemed a little bit off an tired. Instrument malfunctions, chris messing up and forgetting his lines. Not once or twice as usual, but multiple times. It was all so predictable, what moves chris was going to do or what he was going to say during the chatty parts. I really loved don't panic and see you soon. Probably my favorites of the night. But they really need to work on the setlist in my opinion. I mean, come on, fix you in a mix?! VLV, ETIAW, ASFOS and AOAL together in one show is way to much jumpy happy sing along for one night. Oh. And afterwards i had to return the xylobands, and the speakers didnt work. I know i sound really negative about the show, it was a great night and was so happy to see them once again, but last night they weren't the boys on stage that i know so well. I just know they can do so much better..
gai
There was a moment during one song (can't remember which one it was) where the band was on the B-stage, when Chris was walking all around the bandmembers and Guy was seemingly annoyed by that and just NOPEd away from him, right in front Jonny, and they both laughed their butts of at that. That was super random but I'm here for random facts! so chris and jonny were laughing their butts off? wanna see that :) dude, don't post this anywhere that jason regler can see!

Batman
so chris and jonny were laughing their butts off? wanna see that :)No Jonny and GUY laughed into each other's faces. Because Jonny saw Guy avoiding Chris and apparently found this funny as well :awesome: dude, don't post this anywhere that jason regler can see!I found these at the end of the concert in the recycle packages and asked the staff workers if it was okay to take them. They said "yeah no problem!"
Danceteacher
Oh. You did not have to give back the Xylobands - that was voluntary!
