  3. Last September, Pitchfork reported that Astralwerks would be releasing Heroes, a benefit compilation for War Child, a charity that helps kids stranded in war zones across the world. Heroes has a pretty simple and great concept: Music legends pick the songs of theirs they want to hear covered and the younger artists they want to have cover their songs. Alas, the compilation didn't make it out on its planned November 25 release date. Astralwerks will now release it on February 24, and from the looks of things, it'll be well worth your good-cause money. Not everything on this tracklist looks great. The world, for instance, probably did not need more evidence of Iggy Pop's ne…

A song I'm writing right now, but it's not done. Tell me what you think of it so far! The Black Forest (Verse 1) Hidden from the world But set in my sights Where the birds are white And it feels so right (Verse 2) To be free again To be alone In the darkest place That I've ever known (Chorus) Where that trees are black And the skies are red Never looking back Always looking ahead Where the lakes are dry And the shadows float You will never die But you will always grow old Thanks for reading!

I've haven't done an introduction to a new band's thread for a while. I know there are some fans around the forum of this band which I've been following since I saw them opening up the Queen's Tent on the Saturday of Glastonbury (which is where this lovely picture comes from): Red Light Company are five piece alternative rock band based in London, England. The band was formed in 2007 by members Richard Frenneaux (vocals/guitar), Shawn Day (bass), James Griffiths (drums), Paul Mellon (guitar) and Chris Edmonds (keyboards). They came together following an advert Richard posted on the internet, to which Shawn quickly responded, and moved from his home in Wyoming, Uni…

Lil Wayne's track Lollipop was the most legally downloaded single Ninety-five per cent of music downloaded online is illegal, a report by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) has said. The global music trade body said this is its biggest challenge as artists and record companies miss out on payments. There has, however, been a 25% rise since last year with downloads now accounting for a fifth of all recorded music sales. The IFPI said worldwide music market revenues shrank by 7% last year. Steady growth This was blamed on falling CD sales, while the increase in digital sales failed to make up for this. The IFPI, which represe…

  12. Liverpool SoundCity 2008 was described by the NME as ‘one of the biggest musical events this city has ever seen’. Our inaugural year saw gigs from Glasvegas, Cage The Elephant, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Hercules and Love Affair, Ladyhawke, Laura Marling, Mystery Jets, Reverend and the Makers, XX Teens and The Wombats over 4 nights in various venues throughout Liverpool. The festival and industry conference returns in May 2009 and is keen to showcase new talent and emerging acts – before the hype, before the buzz, and before everyone else. Because of this, we're on the lookout for any new bands who want to play what is bound to be one of the musical highlights of …

I'm in the process of writing a song, and it's not done yet, but I am very eager to post it and have feedback! Ocean of Confusion (Verse 1) In the heart of the ocean Lies a story of fiction The ocean of confusion Unlocks it's secrets (Verse 2) I sail through the day Checking off my list Searching for something That does not exist (Chorus) The ocean of confusion Washes over me Now I can see It's pulling me under No breath to breathe I pray to thee (Verse 3) The freezing temperatures The medicine and the cures Are no match For this ruthless disease (Bridge?) I'm Fighting this, fighting this, fighting this Trying this, trying t…

I saw these two guys on Austin City Limits a few months ago and then they played that show again a couple weeks ago. The first time I saw them I said "WTF!" The live performance is something to see. But anyway, they put out 2 albums in 2007 and another in 2008. This music is potentially addicting! The first album is "Delete. Delete. I Eat Meat" my favorite. Second album "Paparazzi Lightning" is crazy good. Last one "Robotique Majestique" well, you just have to listen to this stuff. Makes me dance around the place. And the Austin City Limits is on DVD, is good watching! OK, so has anyone else seen these guys? I am taking break from RH and CP right now and list…

I love Coldplay really rock and know how to put on a great show. Has anyone seem them recently, I heard they played here in LA a few months ago but I was unable to go because I was at my internship. I work for Universal Music Group (UMG). Since I love music I knew this was the ideal place for me! I enjoy Blur, Weezer, The Vines, Jimmy Eat World and Beck. My newest pick however is a new band here in the states called Fiction Plane. Their new album was just released on March 9, 2003 and it totally rocks. You should all check them out http://www.fictionplane.com and let me know what you think. They just went on tour with Something Corporate and the JulianaTheory. Please writ…

  17. Yes I know physical singles have been dying a slow death over the past couple years, so much now that there is hardly anywhere on the high street where you can buy new cd singles (some places do Vinyls). Now the only place to buy CD singles is from online, but now with strong rumours that HMV.co.uk will be bringing in a free postage limit of £5 (so any orders under £5 you will have to pay for postage) to save on money, will harm CD singles. So will 2009 be the year that the CD single finally dies?

  18. I got it wrong. Hands up. I will admit it. I have been saying the Grants are the best unsigned band in the United Kingdom. No. They are the best unsigned band in the world. And the world is theirs; at the Queen is Dead (the unofficial Grants residency and fan club) last Friday, people were shocked to hear the band playing stadium-sized songs in a small club. Shocked. Clubbers came up to the DJ booth in awe of the band and I could only tell them the best songs were yet to come. For many it was watching a masterclass in how to do it right, especially when so many bands are doing it wrong. The Grants are working class and ambitious, and lead singer and songwriter Chris Grant…
