Arcade Fire

*Justine*

Recommended Posts

Finished first half, waiting on second half to download. Here's what I thought:

Reflektor -- 6 -- I'm a bit burned out on this song to be honest. I was tempted to just skip to the new stuff.

We Exist -- 8 -- I dig the beat and the bassline, but the song just stays at one level the whole time. I would have liked to build up a bit more or have something happen.

Flashbulb Eyes -- 7 -- A lot of people are writing this song off as the weakest song. I think it holds it's own against other tracks. And strangely enough, the very beginning of this track reminds me of Death Grips.

Here Comes the Night Time -- 10-- OH HOHOHO... BOY!!! YES YES YES! This is just pure ear candy. The way Arcade Fire plays around with tempo and different sounds-- from the boat-horn noise in the first verse to high, clangy piano notes-- is just soooo good. The song just makes me smile.

Normal Person -- 8.5 -- This song reminds me a lot of the Rolling Stones. Like Month of May, I've always loved it when they go straight-up rock and roll. It's a nice break from the Haitian drum beats and dance synths.

You Already Know -- 7 -- The beginning and ending of this song remind me a lot of Sgt. Pepper's. It's very poppy, but I thought it was decent. Subsequent listens could raise or lower the score I have now, it's hard to tell.

Joan of Arc -- 8 -- I enjoy this song a lot as well. It reminds me a lot of the B-52's, which my parents played a lot when I was growing up, so there's a bit of familiarity there.

The first half is pretty good, but the hidden track is kinda pointless. I don't know why it's there.

Album stream with the full album music video!

OMG! How is this even possible? (Lol won't it piss off their record label?)

This film was the missing link, obviously a big inspiration for this album but also the thing that connects the 2 main themes here that have nothing to do with each other - the tropical sound and the Orpheus and Eurydice myth.

And OMG :bomb: it just keeps sounding better and better, your rip was better than the one on TPB and this is better than yours.

It was uploaded by their label (Sonovox) :P

And I think that the movie is called Black Orpheus, the same movie from the Afterlife video

Oh. :D I thought that was their personal non-VEVO channel.

Um yeah I know I saw it in 1959 before it was cool. :pimp2:

Definitely prefer this to Suburbs. Not sure if there's anything better than The Suburbs (Continued) on it but that was pretty much the only good song on the last one, along with the other version of that song.

Half reminds me of Bright Eyes when he experimented a bit given that there was an effort to provide an album with an overall feel with elements outside of the song (like party atmosphere, the Jonathan Ross inclusion and of course his voice.

Pleasantly surprised by this album. Had written them off. They'll never be back to their best, mind.

Hey, Orpheus!

I'm behind you

Don't turn around

I can find you

Just wait until it's over

Wait until it's through

And if I call for you

Oh, Orpheus!

Just sing for me all night

We'll wait until it's over

Wait until it's through

You say it's not me, it's you

Hey, Orpheus!

De l'autre côté de l'eau

Comme un écho

Just wait until it's over

Wait until it's through

And if I shout for you

Never doubt

Don't turn around too soon

Just wait until it's over

Wait until it's through

It seems so important now

But you will get over

It seems so important now

But you will get over

And when you get over

When you get older

Then you will remember

Why it was so important then

Seems like a big deal now

But you will get over

Seems like a big deal now

But you will get over

When you get over

And when you get older

Then you will discover

That it's never over

Hey, Eurydice!

Can you see me?

I will sing your name

Till you're sick of me

Just wait until it's over

Just wait until it's through

But if you call for me

This frozen sea

It melts beneath me

Just wait until it's over

Wait until it's through

Seems like a big deal now

But you will get over

Seems like a big deal now

But you will get over

And when you get over

And when you get older

Then you will remember

He told you he'd wake you up

When it was over

He told you he'd wake you up

When it was over

Now that it's over

Now that you're older

Then you will discover

That it's never over

It's never over (it's never over) [8x]

Sometime (Sometime)

Sometime (Sometime)

Boy, they're gonna eat you alive (eat you alive)

But it's never gonna happen now

We'll figure it out somehow

Sometime (Sometime)

Sometime (Sometime)

Boy, they're gonna eat you alive (eat you alive)

But it's never gonna happen now

We'll figure it out somehow

Cause it's never over

It's never over (it's never over) [6x]

We stood beside

A frozen sea

I saw you out

In front of me

Reflected light

A hollow moon

Oh Orphes, Eurydice

It's over too soon

It's Never Over (Oh Orpheus) it's a MASTERPIECE by itself. Unbelievable! Best song of the year in my opinion.

Where did you get the lyrics from?

ABSOLUTELY! :dazzled:

I just googled it.

http://rock.rapgenius.com/Arcade-fire-its-never-over-oh-orpheus-lyrics

They probably got it from the lyrics video.

You have the lyrics to the rest of the album on that site.

Here's where Reflektor falls in my eyes

1. Neon Bible

2. Funeral

3. Reflektor

4. The Suburbs

The second half of the album is much stronger in my opinion because it tells a coherent story across its 6 tracks. It's Never Over --> Porno --> Afterlife in particular is the peak of the entire double album.

The first half seems kind of unfocused to me; I don't really see a connection between any of these songs.
