Life in Technicolor: what do you think?

Right, so the 'rough cut' is out there. This thread's all about what those of us who have heard it think. NO LINKS!

I love it. Really up beat and different sounding too. The synths at the start are gorgeous. Like the "oh oh ohh!" bit at the end, sounds a bit like the Police. I like it more than Violet Hill, Lost? and ASARY. I think VlV shades it because it's more of a developed song. Anyway, what do you think?

I view LiT as being in a separate category from other Coldplay songs, just because the version we've heard (which I'm guessing will be the final version) is without lyrics. I know some people don't like purely instrumental tracks, but to me they're more "perfect" than other music because it's pure emotion with no real message. Viva la Vida is Chris Martin at the top of his lyrical game, so having a track without lyrics isn't disappointing to me at all.

As an opener track I'd give it a perfect 10/10. It does the same thing Don't Panic did for Parachutes, Square One did for X&Y, and Politik did for AROBTTH... but it's happier and more upbeat than all those other songs. Maybe to contrast with Cemeteries of London which immediately follows.

Ain't heard it, as I'm being a proper fan and waiting for the album to be released before listening to the non-single tracks :smug:

haha amen to that.....it's very difficult with such easy access to the video! I almost gave in, but ended up hitting play, clicking in the middle....seeing them play...and then I clicked out!! I want to hear it all for the first time when the album comes out!!

The actual song on the album will likely have lyrics, according to this rolling stone article,

"Life in Technicolor": Acoustic-guitar driven and jangly, this is one of the few tracks that seems built from the Coldplay template of songs like "Don't Panic," only a bit more, well, panicked: "Baby it's a violent world," Martin sings.

I could not resist I saw the video :embarassed: For those who have not listened to it: Expect a nice song, it's different as the others song but is the more coldplayish of the new album yet. I'm not giving more detalis because I'm sure you all love suspense and surprises

Usually I'm all up for moral as well, which is why I bought "Viva la Vida" legally and all, even though it was up here.. But there can't be anything wrong about listening to LIT on youtube once, and seeing the video I can't see "on the album".. It looks official to me, don't know why it popped up on youtube though..

Anyway, what I'm saying is: there's no need to degrade any "proper Coldplay fan", which I am, just because we don't share identical attitudes. I'm always the one telling my friends not to download Coldplay stuff illegally because it even kinda "hurts" me, but I'd never judge them on it or anything, so.. please don't do that either.

And something else: The 'Extras' site doesn't work for me, so I can't properly judge what actually pops up there. Gotta stick around on here to find out..

Exactly. I enjoy the suspense, so I'm waiting for Coldplay.com to unlock it, but I downloaded Lost and VLV since I'm buying the hardcopy of the album and can't get them any other way for now. It's the same as In Rainbows. I downloaded it for free until I could buy it here...sort of 'borrowed' it for a few weeks, lol. Some people download, others don't, and it's not 'wrong' imo. I'm just seeing if I can hold out:).

i said "best of the new songs," even though i think VLV is slightly better. but really, i can't explain how much i love BOTH of those songs. it just makes me so happy, so proud to be a coldplay fan when they make music like this. i love epic cinematicness, and that's what this song is for me. i'd like it if anyone did it, but i smile a little every time that i remember it's coldplay.

i know that this is a rough cut, but i kind of hope it's not too too different than this on the album, and i can't believe i'm saying this, but i hope it stays instrumental. i used to not really want an instrumental track from coldplay because i thought it would be a waste of chris's beautiful voice, but when their instrumentals are this good, i have no qualms.

isn't it ironic that by placing yourself in the "proper fan" category, the effect then is that anyone who is a massive fan, and wants to hear it badly, can't; and anyone who doesn't want to hear it that much, can! twisted logic imo.

funny how our sense of morality kicks in at the most inappropriate of moments...

I agree. I'd like to know what the 'final' cut sounds like though, and if it's drastically different or not.

I love the use of the dulcimer and the build of the drums is fantastic. Will really pusehd himself in this album, I can tell. I can't wait to have a full quality file though. It'd sound fantastic.
