The mixing or recording of that was really bad. Hopefully it's just bad recording quality. I guess it probably the AMA producers not their usual people doing the sound. The instruments were hardly there at all.

I find it amusing that people are annoyed Coldplay didn't win.

 

It's the American Music Awards. Coldplay were probably only there because they didn't have enough acts or something

Yeah, that's what I noticed... that's probably why everyone could really pick out the nervousness in Chris' voice.

No, he's just nervous because they were live and he crumbles in front of an audience of socialites...

Oh well , honestly this wasn't the best performance. But I think Will was especially good.

 

However, I have to be honest - compared to European, the American audience SUCKS big time!

I can honestly say that I voted. Heck, I even posted in the AMA forum after I had just voted though I posted under my soccer/football name.

Rihanna and Chris Brown won pop/rock ? Do they even MAKE pop/rock music ?! That really pissed me off.

That was a big shock for me, and no doubt Chris Brown and Alica mention them, they really deserved an award.

I actually have no idea what you're all chatting about, by the way. To me that vocal was pretty sublime. Very live, very raw, and the levels were slightly off, but I think Chris was very on form. And that's coming from a vocalist.

But what isn't, really? I'm not that surprised they didn't win. It's the AMAs, after all. They pick winners based on radio play I think, so yeah, figures, since they play absolute shit on the radio these days.

Chris' vocals?

 

Is it just me or was Chris' singing a bit 'off' at the AMA's? I love Coldplay, but I think his vocals (live) have got progressively worse over the years.. kind of lets down the rest of the band who are flawless. He often misses cues, can't hit the high notes, and yelps like Michael Jackson in between lines.. I don't get it. If you listen to him singing 'See you soon' on their 2003 Live DVD, his voice sounds incredible.. is he just struggling with nerves maybe? I hope he gets it together..

I think it was a little off,

Chris singing was not very good on this one, he seemed to be short of breath...

The rolling in butterflies part was cute, though :nice: and is it just me or were the instruments rather quiet? Chris' voice seemed rather loud over them and if they'd been a tad louder his nerves issue wouldn't have been so noticeable :\

I was thinking the same things. :sad: It's a shame.

The music seems really quiet or his mic is really raised in volume. One of the two...that didn't help make it a real good performance. But it's still fun to watch them perform!

Coldplay probably delivered my second-favorite performance of the evening, after Annie's. Compared to most of the AMA acts, they came across as positively out-there avant garde (they were probably the only artist at the ceremony whose album was produced by Brian Eno--I highly doubt Miley's was), delivering a dynamic performance in the center of an autumn-leaves windstorm, dressed in their vaguely fetishy crossing-the-Delaware military uniforms. It seemed like everyone loved this performance. Everyone, of course, except for the poor janitor who had to sweep up all those dried leaves.

Chris always is super nervous at award shows. I can't recall an award show where his voice sounded 100% because he was so nervous. Plus, him messing up the first part probably didn't help much. But I thought it was a nice performance. It probably got that crowd pumping and it also let them see some real music for once.

 

ETA: I also can't say that Chris' singing has gone down in quality over the years because at the Atlanta show he was flawless. I really just think it's the combination of his nerves and the TV.
