Coldplay lined up to play at American Music Awards? (21-Nov-2010)

Featured Replies

Top music stars like Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Rihanna will entertain the crowd at the 2010 American Music Awards.

The other performers at the event include Coldplay, Carlos Santana Usher, Pink, Bon Jovi and Diddy. The Award show will be held on Nov 21 and it will be telecasted live from Nokia Theatre L.A. on ABC.

Eminem and Lady Antebellum top the AMA nominations with five nominations each. Teenage singer Justin Bieber has got four nominations and he will be competing with Katy Perry, Eminem, Ke$ha and Lady Gaga for the Artist of the Year title.

This year's roster of American Music Awards is about to get a little bit more international. Joining a performance lineup that already includes a resident of Barbados (Rihanna), we now have two more performers coming in from Canada (Justin Bieber) and Great Britain (Coldplay).

The announcement of Bieber to the performance roster should not come as too big of a surprise to anyone -- after all, he is one of the most successful performers of the year and is also a nominee. The same could be said for Katy Perry, who already has two runaway hits with "California Gurls" and "Teenage Dream."

However, seeing Coldplay added to the lineup is a bit more of a surprise. Are we finally going to hear some new music from the band? It's possible, since they have been off working on tunes over the course of the past several months.

I Thought it said tonight for a minute then :laugh3:

I'm actually quite excited now

Awesome :D

Can't wait to see it ^^

But....why?

I'm not complaining, but seems odd.

REALLY odd indeed.

And there are tickets available, starting at $140. Nokia is a nice smallish theatre - only 7000 seats. It's only 2 years old - I've been there a few times. Gah - can I convince my husband I need to be there???

I don't think we want to see new music debuted live on an awards show, we know Chris doesn't do that very well. I'm hoping for an old goodie

It must be that! They're gonna play something new! It may even be Wedding Bells with another arrangement... Or Don Quixote... Or something totally different!

*fingers crossed* :wacky:

Omg...I can't imagine what they're gonna play..I hope it would be something new !!!! Excited like everyone else here !!!!

I smell a very large paycheck for them.

I don't expect new material, but I don't really anticipate "Viva la Vida" or something, either. Hmm.

Is this meaning they will have a new single coming out in the next few weeks/months ?

I'm sorry , but no one goes to the AMA's to sing old songs ( only if they are releasing a compliation , greatest hits etc).

People go to the AMA's to perform and promote a new single cd that is coming out.

If this is true , and with what phil said yesterday , i think we will have a new album coming out !

If the single is dropping in november/dicember , im waiting for a February or March release. :wink3:

though i want the oracle or cp.com to confirm this

i just hope its not just Chris again.

Wow this is unexpected. I don't really see them pulling out new material without more hype, but maybe...

This does kind of seem out-of-the-blue. But I'm still very excited to see the boys (all together!) again. :nice:

The thought of them playing a new song makes my brain go a little crazy.

as Mich said "why?" wonder what they are up to or maybe it is a big paycheck but i don't think its that , need to think about this one. if they do appear, what will they sing? Is someone getting an honorary or lifetime achievement award that they would present? is Gwennie going to be there too?

I can't see them singing something new, Chris always seems to say "Live T.V." shows they sound like shit, so why chance a new song "Live", who knows:thinking: I will be in front of my Tv, Tho, watching them as always:D Dianne, tell your hubby "Pretty Please":P

WTF....they're introducing coldplay as a side event...and yeh I agree, odd timing, what will they wear?

The AMA's website doesn't have them listed to perform yet, at least I didn't see it:confused: Bon Jovi is gonna perform, tho.

coldplay is too good of a band to be with the likes of Ke$ha and Justin Bieber...they're all pop...coldplay isnt....very odd combo....oh well gunna set my dvr early :) Coldplay forever!

what's the point if they don't have any new songs to play live? I mean, it's always nice to see them performing but what would they play? VLV, Lovers in Japan? I think we all have seen enough performances of those songs :P

I think this performance will either be an epic new outfits, new song kind of thing or just VLV. :D

Perhaps they will Debut a clean shaven Jonny? :laugh3:
