LP6

Featured Replies

Whenever it comes out, I hope they go in one of two directions with the music:

1. More artsy and avant-garde, stuff like Famous Old Painters and Lukas, like Viva era but brighter and lighter in sound

2. Stripped down, rockier Violet-Hill-esque stuff, like U2 did with "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb"

However I reckon it's likely they'll do something acoustic and pastoral. Just hope they don't try and make something even more bombastic than Mylo Xyloto, that straddled the edge but if they try to go any more poppy it just would not work.

Any of those would be nice and definitely agreed on the last point.

Yeah there's definitely a trend, I'd actually be more surprised if there isn't a painted background for this one. Perhaps something modern-art-ish.

In terms of the lyrics, they originally said MX was going to partially be about "working for someone you don't like". I reckon that will come up now in LP6 instead- VLV and MX both had themes of revolution involved.

I'm pretty sure this next one will likely be a revolution, and if it is, what revolution will it be?

Well IMO Viva was about revolution against government and big corporations/banks (Viva and Violet hill. Mylo was more abstract about it. It was more about a revolution of freedom. I'm hoping that there is a bit of desperation mixed with both of those themes.

While both Viva and MX express revolution, Viva is more on war against the government. MX IMO focused on using art as a form of revolt.

LP6 may contain themes involving revolution but who knows what it'll be like. It's still too early.

As much as I would LOVE a Coldplay album at the end of this year. I just don't see it happening. If my memory serves me correctly, we knew about and got big hints about VLV & MX SEVERAL months in advance to them being released. I know December is still 5 1/2 months off, but I would be genuinely shocked if we got something in December. :\

I HOPE I'M DEAD WRONG THOUGH! :D

Maybe LP6 will be a revolution but from a personal standpoint, something spiritual, like U2 did with Joshua Tree. Spiritual not like religion but looking inwards to one's self.

I think that something like that would be amazing. Though I can only imagine them doing that kind of message through a piano driven album. If they did it right, it could really be a master piece, but there is a reason that not many albums are like that. I can imagine you have to be pretty inspired.

So we can probably expect that LP6 won't be coming until sometime in 2014. You think we can expect a new song or EP this year or early next year? Christmas Lights was originally planned for MX and that was released during Christmas 2010.

It's good to know that they're working hard :)

Probably no EPs. Just singles.

Yesterday I rewatched an interview with Chris & Jonny from 2008 where they said they get excited & comfortable about their even numbered albums. They said that they were very nervous about their first & third albums, & that their 5th probably would've been a nightmare. Somehow, this interview gave me hope that LP6 would be as good as AROBTTH & VLV. I am clinging to that hope though I am basically skeptical & pessimistic.

Ah, & I don't think they will release it by the end of the year. It's one thing to be writing & recording new songs, but another to produce a whole coherent album with a theme & artwork. May they are thinking of a release date that will make the album eligible for the grammys, not like MX which was late for nomination one year & ended up not winning any award the following year.

I watched the same interview and thought the same!

I imagine that summer 2014 will be when either the album is released, or at least the first single. They'll certainly want to play some festivals and warmup shows next summer. I wouldn't look for anything before next summer. Roughly a year from now!

I think that they will show us something before LP6. You know, they are now with that stuff of the comics, but then..? Is like having their fans looking forward something, maybe we can expect a single this year. We are fans and as fans we really miss them and we need like new stuff i dont know, but just be patient people

Man! So many great points being made...

Might not be actually related, but Foals recently released the video for their single Bad Habit and I saw a comment on facebook that 'they sound like Coldplay now'.

I'm rarely the one to wish one band sounded like another, but I definitely thought it'd be great if Coldplay sounded something like that again.

Coldplay and Foals... never made that connection before. Don't want to either.

Hmmmm the song is ok musically, to me. But I would like to see Chris go in this direction lyrically.

Yeh and the band name 'Foals' is a terrible one.

My latest guess for the release period of LP6 is early 2014 with the first single or a free track out Christmas/New Years time.

No way does "not too far away" mean we'll have to wait another year. Unless all does not go to plan.......

Anyway I like to have the album come out during a different time period than before.

I wonder how new albums from U2 and Arcade Fire this fall will inspire the band to make lp6 even better. I'm not saying those bands new albums will inform the sound of lp6 in any way but I do know that Coldplay will feel a healthy competition and want to top them.

Definitely, Arcade Fire and U2 are perfect competition for Coldplay to boost up their game, especially since they influenced some of their music. I'm really hoping Coldplay blows this album out of the water.

:( Eeeeh, I don't think Foals started to sound like Coldplay with that

and oh God, your avatar blinked! :wacky:
