SERIOUS OPINIONS

Don't see why having a repetitive sound makes it bad? Clocks is a classic song that has the same piano part pretty much all the way through.

I really like Paradise. Took me about 7 listens to get into it. It's really good to escape to.

Again, I'm not a fan of the lyrics but there are tons of great songs with nonsensical or shit lyrics. The start is fantastic. It sounds huge. I think as an instrumental it would be brilliant. My only real critical comment would be I think Chris' voice doesn't fit perfectly into it. The way he sings on songs like Amsterdam or Moving to Mars would be a better way to sing it IMO.

Good point, I totally forgot about Clocks (which I love). It seems then that this is purely a matter of taste  (yes I know, I'm being Captain Obvious extraordinaire here)

Still, the synths in this song are killing me, I want to hear some raw drums/guitar/piano/Chris's voice :smug:

The bridge melody not only sounds like 'Fun' it also sounds like Take That 'When We Were Young' I just heard it in Subway and thought "oh... It's this melody again!"

I've listened to it about 15 times now , and I have to say I've really started liking it . The intro is just fantastic

Don't like the way Will's drums and Guy's bass sound. So unnatural, so computer-like.

Would love to see them perform this live, without synths and strings...

But, as it is recorded this way, I'll just listen again and again until I like it :D

Well let's go. Don't get me wrong, I like the song. It's COLDPLAY. I like everything they do. However, I think this song is too "pop". It is not the best Coldplay song. Not even close. The lyrics are horrible. Way too repetitive. Way to much oooooohssss. I concur with the opinion that they are appealing to a way too mainstream audience, which has been reinforced by the fact that Rihanna will feature in the album.

I respect that you don´t like the new direction, but to say they are selling out to the mainstream is a speculation with no foundation whatsoever. Just say you don´t like the new stuff: that´s fair enough, but questioning their integrity is unfair.

I don't think it's about whether or not it's going to be a hit or not. It's def going to be a hit - it's mainstream enough for non-fans to like it and Coldplay are big enough to get a lot of airplay.

The "hate" (which I think is honest disappointment and expressing of opinions) is because this is not very "them". I just expected more.

Here's my two cents on it's not very "them".

If you expect Coldplay to sound one way, you are putting them in a box. This is obviously the music that was in their minds and hearts. You can't say it isn't "them". Maybe it's not "you" would be a better description.

Right on. Could not have said it better

I have such mixed thought about this one - much like ETIAW. There are some aspects to the song that I really enjoy... and some not so much. I like the intro and I actually like the synth and the strings, and some of the vocals are just fine. The best part for me is when Jonny comes to the rescue.... should have sent him in earlier. I actually don't care or notice too much about lyrics in many songs, but some of this is just too much for me to ignore, and I find myself actually cringing a bit.

Regardless, I've pre-ordered the album - I think most of the new stuff we've heard is great and in the context of the album I have hope that all will be well in Paradise.

You have no idea if this music was in their minds and hearts, that is pure speculation.

You think just because this is your favourite band and you love them, you have to accept everything they release, because it was what they had in their hearts?

For me imagining that this music came from their hearts feels like they've lost their heart and their soul. That is something I cannot accept, so I'd rather say that they are trying to appeal to a bigger audience and simply are selling out. It's a logical conclusion.

Love it, very coldplay :) it's abit more pop like yes ( which isn't necessarily a good thing) but wow it's better than ETIAW, don't care if it isn't a hit, don't care if Mylo Xyloto isn't a smash like Viva La Vida And Death And All His Friends but i just want to enjoy it. And if some of the more experimental songs are like this on the album ill be happy. Bear in mind this just my opinion and i respect others opinion's that dislike Paradise. But overall i think it is great!

It's a bit too poppy.

I like that Chris isn't using his X&Y falsetto anymore, though.

And is it me or does it sound like Chris says 'espected' instead of 'expected'?

I like the song, but definitely will never be one of my favourites. It's fairly catchy, but more of a sad-catchy rather than a happy-catchy song (if that makes any sense!!).

I love the instrumentals all the way through, especially the strings in the beginning. However I think that the lyrics could have been better. I like some of them, but there are others that I was kind of ehhhhh about.

The "para-para-paradise" sounds like something that could be used in a tv-show promo, so I'm sure we will be hearing it somewhere. I don't think it will make it to the radio very often (at least not where I live, where only the top 20 charts are played!), and I can't see it being a huge favourite among fans, but it's definitely growing on me.

I like the song!

Yes, it's pop, but it's not like the 'normal' pop: 'drink till you die, party all night' etc.

Pop, but I still think it is an amazing song!

I said earlier that I would like a stripped version better, and this makes me know I would

If the actual song was like this, It would be wonderful..

I loved it. Have had it on repeat again since I woke up. The opening violins are amazing and guy's bass right after is incredible. I like the ending riff at the end leading into the piano. My only complaint really is some of the lyrics at times seemed choppy.

Okay well I definitely think this was a bad choice for their second single, Charlie Brown would have been much better for releasing but I think they'll release it when the album is. I really don't like the route Coldplay are going down whatever people say it's clear that they are making it more for younger and mainstream audiences just by comparing it to other bands. I have lost most of my faith in MX because of the tracklisting, there will probably be an odd song or two that I like but it won't compare to my favourite albums by Coldplay.

and this should make realize how wonderful Paradise melody is and it's not that shit as many people say.

I agree that in general the stripped down versions of their songs are better but I'm just really not liking all this synth stuff, even if they'd kept it like the first 30 seconds with the violin I think it would have been an improvement.

I love Coldplay with all my heart and this is the first song i have disaproved of. it really bugs me how they keep on tweeting and telling us to buy their album ( its like they only want the money) the song dosent really sound very much like coldplay and it dosent have a natural sound like the old songs used to . I counted down the days from the very start and hoping for something brilliant, i guess i am a little dissapointed :( i hope the album dosent sound like this though. best regards to coldplay , cause i love them to bits!!! just my opinion of the song.

You know, when I first heard Christmas Lights I was absolutely blown away. I was convinced that if they continued to write songs as good as that then their upcoming album would be amazing beyond words. It made me feel really happy around Christmas, I had another year to look forward to and the prospect of an astonishing new Coldplay album.

But now I've heard bits of it I feel cheated. There's certainly some good moments like the guitar riff from Charlie Brown and Hurts Like Heaven as a whole but there's nothing that gives me goosebumps like A Rush of Blood to the Head and Parachutes did. There's nothing there that inspires me to do anything other than rant about how bad Coldplay have become. I even loved most of Viva. Death And All His Friends was a great ending to the album and it gave me hope that the next album would continue where it left off at the end of Viva. But I feel really disheartened with all the new stuff. It's seems like they've been working on it for an age. And what do we get at the end of it? A few pop songs that could have been written by anybody is half an hour.
