Ok, this has been asked many times on the other MB but this is a new one here so throw me some frigging bones  My favourite song on the new album at the moment is the title track, closely followed by Politik, Clocks and Amsterdam........... although this is sure to change by tomorrow coz the whole fucking thing is fantastic innit? :P

Me too, really great song. That along with O and Always In My Head are some of the best ive heard from Coldplay in years.

Wish the studio version was closer to the live lounge version. I prefer stripped back to production also Chris Martin's vocal is strangely poor to be on the final version.

for me the studio version resonates the sadness of the song. there is soul, depth and feeling to chris' voice that has been absent for the last couple of records. i love it!

oops. DP

So a fuller version of Oceans was played an hour or so ago at the New York gig. It's basically the first version we heard (on R1) with an instrumental at the end. The instrumental includes a simple synth piano effect held for the duration and pans left to right at medium speed. It also contains the sounds of ocean waves crashing. It leads well into ASFOS and actually scared me with a thud as it did so while I had my headphones on at high volume.

Man, this has to be amazing.

I also had headphones on. It was magical. That transition between Oceans and ASFOS makes me anticipate the album more than anything :)

Definitely my favourite song from the album so far

The instrumental that builds into ASFoS in this song is pretty awesome! I like the real-life ocean noises and the swirling effect.

Such a crucial song in the album too. Its where the reality of whats happened kind of really sinks in. Love that almost heartbeat like pulsing throughout. And the 'got to find yourself alone in this world' is pretty powerful. Also, my god! the chord progressions!

I was very surprised -pleasantly surprised- that this has the perfect Parachutes vibe. It took me back and it's great.

Plus the instrumental at the end is awesome! :wacky: I love the sound of the waves and I think it's pretty cool how the sound travels from the right side to the left and so on. Plus the transition to ASFOS is wow! :D

This one is amazing. I love the hidden part... The sound of the ocean and that one sound for some reason reminds me of lighthouses. You know that light that goes in the circle. It reminds me of that. Its like being on a deserted beach in the dark. Amazing

Is it just me and my untrained ears, but are the boys slightly out of time with each other for a few seconds during the song?

It sounds like the take they used was slightly off. I realise that it is deliberate and done like that on purpose, but it really was like Zane Lowe said and you can hear them kind of falling apart but they pick it back up.

I always thought of this song would sound like Parachutes but it turns out otherwise. None of the tracks sounded like it which is to me, is good. Ghost Stories has its own unique sound and Oceans is one of them! The hidden part was just crazy, prepping yourself for A Sky Full of Stars ;)

Unfortunately, the live version sounds a tad better to me. Still a lovely song, though. But dat interlude. :wink3:

love this song. Reminds me of I Bloom Blaum. :)

Parachutes is back, only for 1 song, but it's back.. I LOVE it. And I did not say this about a Coldplay's song since 2003... Same for "O".

I hope they will never forget how to create song like this one..

Am I the only one here who thinks that the chords in Oceans sounds awfully too familiar? I believe it has the same progression as Atlas in a way...

Also prefer the live version but it's still in my top three. Love that drop/radar sound and slide guitar. Gorgeous song.

The ending reminds me of the ending of My heart will go on by Celine Dion.

Apologies.

Edit: I looked it up, it's in a different key thank god.

I'm quite angry that Jonny's guitar parts are 0% present on the album version. :( :( :(

It doesn't fit as a whole album. But as a single track/live performance Jonny's guitar is a must!

But it takes time for me to understand that after a gazilion times of hearing Ghost Stories back-to-back. Pretty much Chris's voice was intended to be gritty and there's no need for guitar playing moments, just a wet-styled and a simple acoustic playing song would suffice.
