The more I listen to this album, the more I like it. It's grown on me faster than Mylo Xyloto. I think it's a pretty good pop-rock album.

 

Regretfully, I cannot agree. There are some gems on it but the rest of it feels pretty shallow to my ears so far...

LOL Lets hope not, for her sake! Sons or daughters of musicians dont tend to do too well in the music industry at least as far as history goes hehe Though there are exceptions. Actually in Denmark our most famous pop musician is the son of a very famous pop musician hehe

So does anyone else think that the 'big' song (think Clocks, Yellow, Fix You, etc) from this album is AOAL? I mean HFTW has been released as a single I believe, but it's not getting as much air time as AOAL. If so, this is the first time that the first single from one of their albums is the 'big' song. Also, if this were a different era, they would be playing the major, second single on all their TV appearances but AOAL is the song they are playing.

True. AOAL is a big song, but definitely not Viva or Paradise big.

I think Hymn will be the Paradise of this era whenever they release that single. I also think it will do better than Adventure, like Paradise did better than every teardrop.

 

But then we also have Up&Up , which has strong potentials to become the next Fix You. So...lots of possibilities :)

I don't think Up &Up has the potential at all to become the next Fix You, not even near it. It's an OK song but nothing amazing. I don't think Hymn has the potential to be a big hit either. What's interesting is I get the feeling Coldplay are slipping away, the album isn't selling as well as even GS and they're already down at No3 in the UK charts and I think they were surprised about the general lukewarm sales reception of AOAL,there's no massive singles on AHFOD. I think ultimately AHFOD might be the wake up call they need to make them change direction.

I'm also surprised that there isn't a big hit on this album.

I agree. Up&Up has the massive sound but the production really limits it. Hymn For The Weekend is soaring, and will most likely be the biggest one on the album, but it isn't Viva or Paradise or ASFOS-soaring. Who knows, maybe Fun might do it. Or, if the title track gets released as a single, maybe that'll do it. But this era definetely feels different from all the others.... it doesn't "fit in" for some reason. It's starting to gain some identity now and I think it's because we need to let it sink in, and it's starting to. But there seems to be something missing from this era. This might just be their wake-up call alerting them to change direction once yet again, even though this is a very experimental album, it still falls in the poppier category and they've been doing that for three albums straight. So I think we can all agree that the general theme of the albums need to change. :D

Up&Up is just too long to be the hit. Most people would lose interest after a while
