The Strokes

Featured Replies

would you call yourself a "rock fan"? i would say their brand of music can be a little difficult to enjoy if you dont generally like rock.

I don't think I would call myself a "rock fan" :\

I don't think it's necessary to be a "rock fan". I definitely wouldn't consider myself one. The only other artist I listen to that I would consider to be plain old regular "rock" is Arctic Monkeys.

yeah now i think about it a few of my friends who dont usually listen to much rock still loved The Strokes. but what im saying is that you're simply more likely to like them if you listen to a lot of rock music.

According to Nikolai, the new album will be out in MARCH! :D

Thanks, Katie...in all my squeeing excitement last night, I tried to get onto this thread but the board was down for a bit like it always is in the early morning hours and I got distracted

I am so excited for this that it's embarrassing :bigcry:.

Release dates were confirmed by Niko. March 21st for the U.K. and March 22nd for the U.S.

I don't know how many of you know anything about The Strokes' fandom, but it's cool that Janie actually got a response! :cheesy:

OMG :bomb:

:bigcry:  :bomb:

I like thought I was going to faint when it was confirmed, and I was on a train so I couldn't squee much or anything. And it only makes it more awesome that it was Janie that got the response :cheesy:.

For so long I really was getting convinced they'd just kind of unofficially break up by fading out of existence, so it's a huge understatement to say that I'm beyond thrilled for this. The Strokes were the first band, the first music I ever liked, and besides the fact that I'm batshit for the music just like I am for Coldplay and a few other bands, they as people hold a special place in my heart as well :wacky:.

who's Janie?

A massive, massive Strokes fan...there are probably bigger, but she's semi Tumblr-famous and I think she's awesome and funny and we talk a little bit :D. It was nice that someone I and a lot of Strokes fans sort of knew got a direct reply from Nikolai on Facebook confirming the March 22 rumor :nice:.

:bigcry:  :bomb:

^this, basically :wacky:

So excited about the new album but even more excited that they are doing a concert in my city on March 12th :) I'm sure more tour dates are to follow.

Exiting!

Feels not too long ago back in 6th grade when Is This It came out and getting my ASS cd cover confiscated at Lutheran school lol.

I hope it's good, really. Fuck knows they're all still amazingly talented, they still of course have that on stage dynamic seeing them live this summer. But I hated Jules solo album ugh so I hope it's not like that.

^Hahaha wow

I actually loved his solo album. I guess it's because I have a real soft spot for synthy sounds? :P

i thought casablancas solo record had some pretty sweet tunes on it. but his song with Danger Mouse was the best!

I love synth. Idk it just felt like trying too hard. But that's just in my opinion

I was initially really turned off by Julian's solo album, I don't really know why. I guess maybe because it wasn't what I expected, so after a couple of listens and liking two songs on it, I kind of put it aside. But my mom talked sense into me and told me to try it again like six months later, and I just fell in absolute love (OK, well besides "Ludlow Street," and I don't see the big deal over the B-side "Long Island Blues," but besides those, I think it's absolute gold).

Even though I've always loved what they've come out with when Julian was the songwriter and "first among equals," I really can't wait to see what they produce when working a bit more collaboratively, especially when all of their solo efforts were pretty great .

I am excited about the new Strokes album, but I can't help but get disappointed when I think about them. It just seems like they've lost so much steam over the years when they started out with so much potential. I really hope this next album is great.

^ You're not alone there.

At least they haven't lost it in their live shows :awesome:

Not that I have anything against the latest album, You Only Live Once remains a favourite of mine :D
