November 29, 20187 yr I don't have a problem if you like the song, but I think comparing it to Kid A is a bit much. Kid A was a completely unexpected move, with the most creative songwriting and lyrics Radiohead had up to that point in territory they and most other rock groups had never set foot in (outside of Meeting in the Aisle). We've already had songs in E-Lo's sort of style from Coldplay in the forms of SJLT and HFTW, and there's not much separating it from the rest of the songs on the Top 40 charts at the moment. Again, all power to you if you love the track, but I don't think you can argue that you can compare it to the transition between OKC and Kid A. I'm having such trouble believing that people really think that E-Lo is anything like current Top 40 music. In terms of current pop music, it can be argued to quite experimental, as it's essentially a modern idea of african folk music talking about bringing slavery to an end. If that's similar to anything in current radio or pop music then I guess I'm just wrong haha The song is nothing like SJLT (which is more more like what you're describing) and definitely not like HFTW. The music is more dance and folk than straight pop and the only thing I can think of that has any remote similarities is Disclosure's album Caracal which came out 3 years ago

I just thought the comparison wasn't exactly fair.
November 29, 20187 yr I quite like the song, but I like the video even more!!!!!!!!!!! The lyrics are very meaningful, and per Miracles (someone special) style and AOAL, there's a lot of good references that I haven't yet fully understood but indeed sounds like they may be about Apartheid and such. I do wish there was more guitar though, as I often do. :) I bet when they play this live there'll be this giant Jonny guitar solo we didn't notice on the album version because it's not mixed loudly enough.... :p
November 29, 20187 yr This song is amazing. Need to watch with the music video and know about Apartheid in South Africa and the life of Nelson Mandela. Im actually blown away... Totally agree with you, you have to put it in the context. I've been to South Africa and Robben Island and this song actually moves me. It's going to fit beautifully at the Global Citizen Festival in Johannesburg. I wish I could be there
November 29, 20187 yr I'm really excited for Voodoo! Me too! Mylo Xyloto is probably my favourite Coldplay album and according to iTunes Voodoo will have the MX ‘feels’. I am pumped!

November 30, 20187 yr Despite some hateful comments (looking at you @arushofjacktothehead), I can see why the Coldplay name has been distanced from this EP. Los Unidades on this EP sounds like a dancepop party! Jonny Buckland still plays delicious guitar licks whichever band he’s in. Timbuktu’s guitar sounds VERY much like AOAL strum. Beautiful plinking in Voodoo too. E-Lo is probably my faveourite though. Although I think the Mandela rhythm and vibes track is actually pretty cool! Will E-Lo or Voodoo be hitting radio stations?
