i've spent the last couple of days surfing the net looking for as many major festival line ups as i can. and here is what i've come up with. i just thought it would be interesting to compare the different line ups from across the globe. who is doing the most fests? who is headlining in the UK but opening the fest in the US? which fest has the best line up? wtf are the black eyed peas doing on these lineups? so on and so forth. the whole thing is a little messy at the moment and is very much a work in progress. and pardon the slight aussie bias on the list. So- what is going on with the line-ups, in particular the headliners this year? This is bad for my health- it actually induces a narcoleptic sleep attack every time the Killer Kings Of Oasis are confirmed to headline. When did festivals become an inseparable generic mess? Come on- Your Grandma could have won a bet on who would be headlining Glastonbury about six months before it was announced. The Killers and Kings Of Leon. The names roll off the tongue and not just because they begin with the same letter. Pretty much every festival has been headlined by either one or both of them recently and it’s getting boring. Obviously festival owners work in such a crowded market they have to book the acts they know will bring the punters in and the Killers/ Kings axis guarantees the £50 Tesco man will be interested. Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis has announced ticket details for Glastonbury 2009. As previously reported by NME.COM, 100,000 festivalgoers will be able to place a £50 deposit on their tickets - guaranteeing them entry - this October. Eavis has now elaborated on his ticketing plans. In a statement emailed to people who registered their details for the festival in previous years, he said: "We have come up with a scheme that will allow people a much longer period to plan and pay for their tickets, while still continuing the battle against ticket touting. After last years shocker of Jay Z, despite the fake mud bathers claiming they enjoyed it when they were in fact lying through their middle class teeth, Bruce Springsteen has thankfully showed what music is all about. His enthusiasm and energy which lasted well over 2 hours was bloody fantastic. Even if you don't like him it was hard not to be impressed by his sheer brilliance. It puts into perspective the rather tepid dour gigs provided by Radiohead and Oasis from the past 6/7 years. And I'm sure Michael Eavis will have learnt that he'll make decisions based on music rather than the crime which was Jay Z last year

So whats your thoughts on the line up? Reading/Leeds this year has some great bands, I got my tickets before I new the line up, but the headliners are definatly the best this year, V in a close second. Prodigy/Artic monkeys will be an exceptional first night for Leeds and will set the tone for the rest of the weekend. Bloc party/Radiohead on sat, well what else can I say to two of my favourite bands in one night, will be immense, The last night is the weakest line-up for me, weakest mabye the wrong word as Placebo/Kasier Chiefs/King Of Leon is still a great line up, just not really my cup of tea. Roll on August 28th!

Of all the various gigs and festivals I'm looking forward to the most is the End of the Road festival, even more looking forward to it than Glastonbury. EotR is held on the Dorset/ Wiltshire border for only 5,000 people at the beautiful Larmer Tree Gardens, between the 11th and 13th September, one of the last festivals of the UK circuit (hence it's name).
