It is news Beatles fans thought they would never hear, but 25 years on the surviving members of the band have announced a new album.

The recording is a remix of some of their best-known songs. It was used as the soundtrack to the circus show Love in Las Vegas.

Acrobats from Cirque du Soleil performed spectacular aerial tricks at the Mirage Hotel to the music. The show started in June, with an album release on the cards from early on.

And now Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, with Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison who represents John Lennon and George Harrison, have confirmed they agreed to the release of the album.

The last original album released by the band was Let It Be in 1970.

It took producer Sir George Martin and his son Giles two years working with master recordings at Abbey Road Studios to create Love.

It starts with the opening chord of A Hard Day's Night merging into Get Back, the Eastern drone of Within You, Without You accompanied by the drums form Tomorrow Never Knows and phrases from Penny Lane mixed with Strawberry Fields Forever.

"One of the challenges of the job was getting the balance of the songs right," explained Sir George on the Love website.

"We wanted to make sure there are enough good, solid hit songs in the show, but we don't want it to be a catalogue of best ofs. We also wanted to put in some interesting and not well-known Beatles music and use fragments of songs.

Giles Martin added: "Our mission was to try and achieve the same intimacy we get when listening to the master tapes at the studio. The songs sound so alive!"

The album, which is being released by EMI, will compete in the charts with Ecce Cor Meum Behold My Heart), a choral piece composed by Sir Paul after the death of his first wife, Linda.

No.....yeah I know them by name....but that's it!

I know the most famous beatles songs (which seem to be overrated for me...)....so I was never really interested in them...

Oh wow.. The Beatles were the four people who made me fall in love with music in general, actually.

I think you should give them a try
