Happy birthday to this 'greedy' man, Chris Martin turns number forty-two!

I think you are a little unkind calling Chris 'greedy'. I sincerely hope I was missing the joke somehow. Happy birthday Chis, the work you do for others is wonderful.

Saw that on Reddit, thought it was so weird, wasnt even sure i really understood it!

lol, yeah, I think you're missing the joke. As M Marks the Spot suggested, another user was suggesting Chris was a little greedy because he was doing these mini shows by himself and not with the band. I was being sarcastic FYI, so no harm done : )

Have the Coldplay ever accepted a song written by someone else and released it as their own original one?

I don't think so. I think Talk is the only one that kind of fits that category, as they borrowed a melody from Kraftwerk and wrote an original song over it. But not a full-fledged song (like when they gave Embrace the song Gravity).

Unless you want to talk about Viva La Vida and Joe Satriani, but I'd rather not go down that road

Does Life in Technicolor count? Timing was, that and Light Through the Veins was close. Not sure who technically came up with the song first.

That's a good point. Yeah, Coldplay sampled the Jon Hopkins instrumental for LiT and The Escapist.

Thanks for answering my question. Talk also struck me but as you already mentioned, it's not the case.

No need to discuss that. Let's not offer it up. :joy:

You guys reminded me of that Joe Satriani song. I searched it and have to say that it's quite similar to each other!!! :worried::worried:

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't realize this was the Random Coldplay Thoughts thread. I don't want people to get worked up about it!

Alright, I didn't want to bring this on but since we've already planted the seed... Now I'm listening to If I Could Play by Joe Satriani and I can hear that one particular parts sounds quite similar to Viva La Vida. Just a little bit, really a little bit... But honestly I wouldn't have noticed it at all, if I hadn't find out that both sides were in court and so on...

Also, Midnight is based on an unreleased Jon Hopkins song called Amphora and ETIAW has the chords of the Peter Allen and Adrienne Anderson song I Go To Rio.

Thanks for your input.

However, by my question I meant if there was a song someone else had written and gave it to the Coldplay to record and release it. Not like including elements from here or sampling this part from there. :D
