  • I just wanted to say, after 5 years of being part of the Coldplay fandom, first on Coldplaying, now on Coldplaying, Twitter and other platforms, a wonderful thing happened today: Coldplay followed me

  • I ran away
    I ran away

On this day exactly 5 years ago, a young and innocent person who was just getting really into Coldplay wanted to sign up on a forum called Coldplaying. Faced with the question of what to pick as a use

  • Today exactly 5 years ago, I joined the Coldplaying community and I don't regret that that. To be honest, it's probably one of the best things that have happened in my life! I had never thought I woul

FYI, I was very loosely and casually following this coldplay twitter worse song bracket. FWIW, the finalists were Easy To Please, A Spell A Rebel Yell, X Marks The Spot and 1.36. Eventually, A Spell A Rebel Yell was named the worse song. I think that or 1.36 wouldve had my vote (even from the whole library). What do yall think.

Here's the bracket

Someone "summoned" me on Twitter to vote between ASARY and XMTS. [emoji4]

I didn't know there was a whole voting traject leading to this choice.

But XMTS being better?

Come on:

As far as I can see

All time and circuitry

Is wrong

As far as poetry

Sit down and sing to me

A song

'Cause all I want in this world

All I want in this world

Is for you to come home

A spell, a rebel yell

A spell

Soldier, come home to me

You've been away from me

So long

All I want in this world

All I want and deserve

Is for you to come home

A spell, a rebel yell

A spell, a rebel yell

A spell, a rebel yell

A spell, a rebel yell

A spell, a rebel yell

A spell, a rebel yell

A spell, a rebel yell

A spell, a rebel yell

Stare into darkness, staring at doom

My heart go boom, bo-boom boom

Stare into darkness, admit defeat

Coming home and I'm finding no peace

And I know, and I know and I know

I know I'm out of luck

And I know, and I know and I know

I know what you've got

I put my hands up to the sky, the feeling is like

I've got a rocketship that I want to ride

I put my hands up to the sky, the feeling is like

Wherever you are, I'll find that treasure

(So I reach for it) Wherever you are, I'll find that treasure

(So I reach for it)

Stare into darkness, staring at doom

You make my heart go boom, bo-boom boom

Superhero, a masterpiece

Been innocent but a sinner in me

And I know, and I know and I know

I know I'm in luck

And I know, and I know and I know

I know when I'm not

I just put my hands up to the sky, I'm feeling like

I've got a rocketship that I want to ride

I put my hands up to the sky, the feeling is like

Wherever you are, I'll find that treasure

I just put my hands up to the sky, the feeling is like

I've got a rocket, eyes on the prize

I put my hands up to the sky, I'm gonna find

Wherever you are, I'll find that treasure

(So I reach for it) Wherever you are, I'll find that treasure

(So I reach for it) Wherever you are, I'll find that treasure

(So I reach for it) And I know, and I know, and I know

(So I reach for it) I know what I've got

X marks the spot

I just put my hands up to the sky, I'm feeling like

I've got a rocketship that I want to ride

I put my hands up to the sky, the feeling is like

Wherever you are, I'll find that treasure

I rest my case. [emoji16]

This Death and all His Friends beer looks amazing.

Also, I think people who use Coldplay as some sort of insult are totally unoriginal who have jumped on a bandwagon. You know how you know you are a bad writer with no talent? You can't think of anything better than Coldplay as an analogy for a putdown.

you rest your case? All you did was post the lyrics. I think there's more to music than lyrics.

Anyways, this can spiral way out of control. Lets just agree to disagree. I like that song more, your like that song more, hooray for differences amirite?

I'm just shocked True Love wasn't in the bracket, that one's definitely in my top 10 of worst Coldplay songs :p

And there's nothing wrong with A Spell A Rebel Yell imo, it doesn't deserve this title

^ I was the same way with True Love, but then I went through something that made me appreciate it more.

As with most of the songs in the bracket. I feel like I can appreciate them if im in a certain mood, as opposed to a song like Viva La Vida or Politik where I can listen to it whenever.

My personal reason for not liking ASARY is I haven't found that 'mood' to be in to like it, lol. With XMTS, as per its design from Chris, it gets me in a clubby, city-urban, mood youknowwhatImean?

I agree. I didn't love it a first, but the more I listened to it I was reminded of how I felt the last time I had a break up. I did want him to tell me he loved me even if it wasn't true bc I wasn't ready to accept it yet. Not healthy but totally human. I made him give me one last kiss too and we were both sobbing through it.

Years later after I was firmly in love and married to someone else he kept coming back trying to get in contact with me. I am so much better off than I would've been with him. Dodged a bullet and ended up with bittersweet revenge. You have no way of knowing that at the time.

Thanks for sharing. Yeah, I think that's part of why GS is such a polarizing album. If you're a sap like me, then you're gonna connect more with it. If you don't wanna catch the feels, then you're gonna have a bad time.

To add to the XMTS/ASARY debate, of course it's not just about the lyrics, but A Spell A Rebel Yell also has a very unusual-sounding, interesting instrumental. You can't deny it's more experimental than the one of XMTS.

Yup, I agree its more experimental than XMTS...andddd i'll leave it at that, lol.

I didn't discover my love for Coldplay until 2015.

Damn, these hiatuses are hard... and it's only been 3 months. How have y'all done it all these years?

I find myself getting studying for school, then watching a video about Coldplay every 10 minutes.

I agree! I've loved them forever but only became a superfan since I went to the concert last August. I have been watching videos, reading articles and even just bought a biography from 15 years ago lol.

Right, I always loved the songs I heard, then one day listened to Parachutes 20 times, then A rush of blood, etc etc on down the line of albums until now 3 years later I still listen to everything on repeat all day.

I NEED MORE

Stress, depression changes who I am but whenever I want to go back to who I was.. I take a walk along the trail and have my coldplay's song into my ear. then I just feel like cool boy that I was..

I just listen to something else tbh. I also like taking some breaks from Coldplay music from time to time. It gives a pretty nice "rediscovery" vibe when I eventually go back to listen to it regularly.

Welcome to the forums !

This time round I am listening to a lot of other artists and genres. I ask my friends for their taste on anything music orientated. I think that the last week I haven't heard any music from Coldplay at all. The last time I was so much into non-Coldplay music was in Autumn 2015. The only thing that drives me through the hiatus is reading and writing in this forum and discovering old unknown for me interviews.

I just realised the beautifulness of up in flames, expecially the "can we pour some water on?" in the end. Is MX someone else's favourite album?

Yeah it was one of my least favorite Coldplay songs until I realized how amazing that part is...I still don't like it that much but I love the ending now

Yes, mylo is such an upbeat album but it has beautiful melodies.

MX is definitely up there for me!

Mylo is very underappreciated. People criticised it for being too clean and shiny at the time, but it really is a unique sounding album on its own. Some of my favorite Coldplay production choices and some of their best songs! People go after it for some reason when GS and AHFOD are objectively pop/vocal/r&b records and MX is actually a rock record...

Funny enough though I've never liked Up In Flames. Always thought it was the lowpoint of the record along with UFO for sounding way too sappy and crisp. The piano and guitar almost feel fake they're so clean (for my taste).

after about the second or third, you just get used to it :joy:

yes, MX is tied for my favorite along with X&Y

MX is awesome. There is a reason it's Pitchfork's highest rated Coldplay album. Very creative, very unique. It's hard for anyone to criticize that album by saying Coldplay "ripped off" someone. It is very much Coldplay's, and that fits in with their idea of having the title "Mylo Xyloto"- something that can only be associated with Coldplay.

Songs that have really grown on me- UATW, Up With The Birds, U.F.O. These are really excellent acoustic ballads.

And all the dense stadium MX songs rock.

Charlie Brown contains their second best riff ever, behind Clocks, IMO.

One of my best friends (who's a huge Radiohead fan) makes fun of Coldplay, but says MX is their best album.
