Coldplay to perfom at MTV Movie Awards on June 1

Featured Replies

The worst part must be that this was their first live performance for over a year and it didn't go off in the way they might've wanted and now they have to wait to put it right. Personally, I think playing a new song for the first time live at an MTV Awards show was a bad idea.

my gosh...people, chill out. most award show performances are crap but compared to those this was amazing. watch it yourself before u judge, i don't understand why everyone thought this was so bad.

I am obsessed with Coldplay, but nobody in his right mind would call that a good performance. People, it's okay to say that it was sub-par. Still worth watching!

completely agreed!! like i assumed, jonny was playing the "strings" (well one of the strings arrangements) and when he really went on his guitar i didn't even care for it...what a lame act that was, I wonder why they didn't go with violet hill instead, would have kicked major ass, this performance was weak, no energy (thanks to the stripping away of the cool major instruments)... live orchestra is the way to go with that song live without a question (which is why i have been questioning so much that they say, it sounds like just the 4 of us in a room, i did not get that at all, instead i got, lets play the cool strings arrangement, jonny guy and will why dont u barely play those instruments u play, and i'll sing) :(

i'll watch it again but i doubt i'll b impressed.. i just keep thinking, if they had performed a song like god put a smile.. (like the energy, liveliness, rawness, bandness) of that song is incredible..

he was nervous! plain and simple...get up in front of a crowd of celebrities and a million people watching live and see if you get out of breath;)

Exactly and as someone else said there were probably only 10 real coldplay fans in the audience anyway.

I still think that VLV was an excellent choice and I thought the performance was very good.

The Grammy performance of "Talk" is precisely what this reminded me of... It will likely be incredible at a full gig, but it just fell on its musical face tonight.

did you watch the toronto talk performance its awesome i think chris dont have confidence in himself all the thinks he said in the interviews are true. but in a live perofrmance i think he is awesome. i want to watch a vlv live performance not in a award show.

Hello everyone! This will be my first post, but I went ahead and recorded their performance of "viva la vida." I do agree that he was nervous throughout, but they did great as a whole. I'll be putting up the video once the file is restructered for youtube.

wouldnt it be hilarious if this was another rick roll?

dont matter to me, i saw it already, and i like getting rick rolled!!!

never gonna give u up!!

I believe Violet Hill would have been a much better song for them to play. I'm sure everyone likes a jonnyfest :laugh3:

You don't seriously think they should have made their come back with an old song like God Put A Smile?

ok... no offense.. but everyone who is saying this performance was AWESOME is being naive. it was GOOD but come on... chris was nervous as fuck and there was just no energy. i know it was an awards show and all but chris's voice just really wasnt there tonight. the part with the ooooos was amazing but everything else was just shaky. i still know this song will be really good at a concert and this doesnt make me think any less of coldplay... they just had to work the rust off sometime and tonight was that time.

Yep. That's what I mean... Some of the live "Talk" performances (such as the Toronto one) are orgasmic. I'm hoping VLV ends up the same way once Coldplay are in the comfort of their own, full-blown show.

Just wait til the early show performance ;]

lol, it's not another "rick-roll" the video is at 20%, so it should be up somewhat soon.

Yes, it was their first performance of the song. Yes, it was the MTV Movie Awards. Yes, it was MTV. Still, it doesn't change the fact that it was a lousy performance (in my opinion). And I dont think anyone on here is penalizing them for it. I'm sure they'll get the kinks out before the go on tour.

I am randomly posting this because by the time it has been posted onto the forum there will be an extra 20 posts above me than were there in the first place and this would make no sense if I even did say something somewhat related to the topic at hand.

long story short.

this is a sentace about nothing.

you try singing in front of hundreds live, and millions at home and see if youre out of breath

I just might do that ;)

And he was out of breath from the get go. Sounded a lot like he was backstage running a marathon and came right out to stage and tried to sing.

It was their first live performance of the song for fucksakes.

Of course its going to be rough.

I'M SO EXCITED.

agreed

Just saw the performance too, they were fine,...methinks as well Chris was nervous...there was a second of him looking at someone on the first row, and rolling his eyes at her, as if to say" omg...i`ll get through this!!"

Fine tuning better done on a show like this than in concert, eh...?

I always felt they didn`t do as well on awards shows as in person...

But it was flashy and great to see my boys BACK!!

the only think that really annoys me is that if we are talking like this in a coldplay forum. what are gonna talk the haters im already piss off right now. :veryangry:

do you think there is a chance they will drop vlv from the tour?

the video just had a complication during modification :veryangry2: but I promise it will upload as soon as it's done being modified! btw, I recorded this on my flip camera, so the sound and video quality is pretty good.

omg you guys need to calm down....they were fine....much better than their talk performence at the grammys and sos at vmas last year.

confetti was stupid though....
