I find Liam Gallagher's comments on Coldplay quite funny actually. He doesn't hold any jealousy towards them he just genuinely doesn't like them which is absolutely fine.

 

That's odd, as I remember seeing videos on YouTube of Oasis and Coldplay performing Yellow and Live Forever together. Aren't they friends? I think I read Noel and Chris are. Maybe that's what's bothering Liam.

I have to accuse Coldplay fans who think Portishead suck of being immature and narrow-minded. You don't have to like the style, but you have to show some respect (this also accounts for Geoff). Myself, I thought Portishead was beautiful, but a bit boring at Werchter (I was there), but that's just my opinion. Also, there was a nice visual show near the end of their performance.

From my observations, a large portion of the Coldplay fans on here're close minded and immature.

I think there are some during Fix You as well. But they don't use them in like every song, that's for sure.

Bruno Mars was more awesome than Portishead live. Portishead might make great albums, but if you don't really know their music, it's really boring to hear them at a festival.

Him heckling down Chris Martin as a "plant pot" at the Q Awards in 2005 was good though.

I wonder if this dude would have said the same thing if it were Paul McCartney on the stage instead of Coldplay. Because Paul's show has fireworks too (more, in fact).

 

I'm guessing he wouldn't, and that means his beef isn't with the fireworks, his beef is with Coldplay. But that's just my guess.

Portishead are a great band and Geoff is a very talented musician in his own right. He just needs to keep his mouth shut is all. This isn't the first time he's said something that's made me facepalm.

I think it's a fair complaint if you're playing at the same time as someone to not want fireworks disrupting your show.

They didn't play at the same time. They played right before Coldplay. If you demand (and get!) such a spot at a festival, you shouldn't be complaining. Lots of other bands below them on the line-up would have deserved that spot as well.

 

Doesn't take anything away from the brilliant stuff they've done in the past though!

This is all well but do remember, Portishead are a bunch of moody so and sos and they're only saying that because they could never pull of fireworks in their performances. With all of those down tempo, atmospheric, creepy trip hop songs (not that I don't like that) I'm not surprised at all he'd say something like that.

It was quite embarrassing for them nobody was interested in lounge music on a festival people started to shout: "we want coldplay"! It had nothing to do with coldplay's fireworks. Their concert was a real disaster and at the and the singer ran of stage.

but who had this fantastic idea to put Portishead - a group with deep music, that needs quiet listening - in front of an audience that is going crazy because they will see Coldplay - the group they have been waiting for about 8 - 12 hours, with no toilet visits, without sitting down more than 10 min, no food, no drinks - in less than an hour!

 

It was just a bad idea to play there one/two hours before Coldplay would come on stage. And I think they were frustrated about how Coldplay ruined their show (because Portisheadfans had no chance to stand in the front, unless they stand there since 12 'o clock like the Coldplay fans did), so when Coldplay started with their fireworks during Portisheads quiet show a few days after Werchter.. I understand that it made them a little bit angry

Coldplay using fireworks gives people a bang for there buck... literaly. And you can't go out and just potty mouth about Coldplay and how they perform live. Even without fireworks i bet Coldplay's live concerts will still be EXPLOSIVE!!! :)

I was just pointing out how ridiculous and inaccurate "there were no Portishead fans" is. A festival is not just for Coldplay fans just cos Coldplay is playing. Also don't be selfish, because other people waited the same or more to see another band they liked. But yes, at least I think Portishead should've played in a smaller place, I don't know how Werchter works but if they could play smaller stages then that's better. And more intimate to say the least.
